The recommended one is Toddler Town in Amwaj. Everybody talks about it, every one wants there. I know couple of people who have kids there, they are delighted with the facilities and education. But to get a place there one has to go on a waiting list at least 6 months in advance and have some luck. Wow... six months... anyhow do thnx a lot... do u know if the accept infants? Mine is 11 months... thnx again:)))

I know someone who lives there. The cooling is free, he found out why. When he went away he turned the cooling off, of course, he came back and the ceiling and some of the furniture were covered in really bad mould, it was awful. Last week the water heater broke and flooded the place. It took them nearly a week to actually stop the water from dripping from the ceiling! The maintenance are useless and really slow, the maintenance manager really does not care at all! I really advise you not to go that building! Really thnx i needed this actual situation to make up my mind...thnx

Mmmm... seems like it.s very bad indeed... but i got a good deal there... 2 bedrooms for 65 ... so can i survive or no that is the question... Have you already signed a lease? Having stress caused by problems in your home isn't good for mental health! I've been there, and unfortunately the minutiae adds up, and it can affect other areas of your life. You probably won't find a 2 bed for 65 in the Marina in a good building, so it's a good deal, but at what cost to your quality of life? Always a good idea to speak to residents of a building if they are willing to give you a moment of their time. I ask about maintenance, facilities, noise within the building, neighboring building, cell phone reception--all the things an agent is not going to know, or be willing to let on to. Thanks for the advice... u r totally right.. actually i asked one resident staying there for one month now and she seemed content... but its a matter of perspective after all...

Barsha (around Mall of the Emirates) is a good place for 2-bed apartments around that sort of price. All will be better than Manchester Tower. Thnx a lot... gonna search for that...

It's an awful, run-down building with a terrible reputation. Dreams Tower is another in that area that is best avoiding. Don't waste your time with either of them. Mmmm... seems like it.s very bad indeed... but i got a good deal there... 2 bedrooms for 65 ... so can i survive or no that is the question... you can pick something up for that price and bedrooms in tecom and the maintenance will be better too... Good point....

they say it's impossible to go there with the car... is it true??? not at all! if you are worried about parking, what we usually do is park down near dubai museum, catch an abra across the creek, and then walk into naif. it's 5 mins. obviously a bit hot at the moment but i would be fine to do this in the evening.. or maybe take the metro... we live in jlt just beside the metro... but if u bought lots of stuff will be very tiring.. i believe i'd give it a shot tonight... let's hope they r open till midnight... we can go after iftar...

I have a friend who has a live out - works okay, however time keeping can be an issue because of the bus. sometimes she is early and other times late. Can be really frustrating as she is then late for work. On the subject of keeping a maids passport. the very first maid that I had, I didnt keep her passport, she absconded and all I had was a photocopy. when I went to immigration to report her they were really annoyed that I didnt keep her passport and that the oppertunities for her are endless now that she has her passport and is in the UAE. 5 years down the line, I still havnt recived my 5K back ( it was 5 thousand deposit in those days ) and she hasnt been caught and it still in the country :( I always do now, I place them in the safe with my passport an tell the housemaid that im keeping it safe and give her a copy of the labour card. I dont give her the original. u have a very valid point... but how abt this DEPOSIT thing,, shld i deposit a certain amount of money at the ministry of labor? and if yes , then why?

I didn’t use an agency for mine, we placed ads on Dubizzle and Expat woman. It wasn’t easy but I knew what I wanted and I didn’t know about using an agency + I wouldn’t have paid for an agency. When placing a Ad I was very clear about what I wanted as in - Must have accommodation, must be prepared to live out, must have transport or be prepared to travel every day I even went as far as to say how old I wanted them to be and what nationality. I asked them to call me between a certain times and had a long phone conversation with them and asked many questions, I had everything written down, if I was happy with them on the phone I arranged one day where I interviewed about 10 ladies, my nanny was the last lady I saw on that day. Talking to them on the phone helped a lot, if they called me at the wrong time I didn’t see them, if they was the wrong nationality, too old, not prepared to live out etc I didn’t see them, if they turned up late to the interview I didn’t see them, sounds harsh yes but if they couldn’t follow a simple advert I didn’t want them working for me. We had all sorts of people turn up on the day, women who couldn’t talk English and had her friend call me, one lady was 57 years old when i wanted between 30-40. I still have the advert I placed and the questions I asked if you would like me to send them over to you to give you an idea of what I put please send me you email address and I will send them over. omg lou that's extremely helpful... ofcourse i'd like you to send me the ad and questions and so... but i also have a couple of questions... how much do u pay her and how did u manage the legalities?

Try always the maids from agencies. They are legal as well as reliable. You have the right to hold her passport as well. But having a maid under your sponsorship and letiing her sleep anywhere else could be risky as it might cause a panicing situation for u later. Try calling Al Fattah Manpower Supplies in Sharjah. (www.alfatahuae.com) select the one from their website and they will arrange the rest for u. They charge one time fee around 7000 and u have to pay annually to the Ministry every year or put a security deposit for her (its different for different states) mmmm... thank you so much... and how much does she take monthly above the 7000?

I have a live out maid and it is perfectly legal, as we sponsor her. She is not allowed to work for anyone else. She carries with her a letter in Arabic and in English saying that she is authorized to live out. She shares a room with her cousin. I am usually pretty flexible with her hours, when her adult daughter comes to town (from Al Ain) she can spend the day with her and come in later. Her husband also works here so she can see him on weekends and they go to church together. When I need her to babysit (usually once or twice a month), she is happy to do so. If we do come in late we give her taxi fare, as we feel obligated to provide for her safety. We pay extra for her to live out. She has one day off a week, sometimes two, and usually works maybe four or five hours on the days she works. That said, when we were away on holidays for 2 and a half weeks she came everyday to look after the cat, but I feel this is reasonable and she was fine with it. She keeps her own Emirates ID and Daman card. She chooses to keep her passport here at my home (where she has a drawer containing all of her documentation) but she is free to take it anytime if she wants it. We have sent her for Paediatric First Aid courses, etc. She looks after my child and is a grown woman so of course we trust her. I think she has a fairly easy job as far as maids go, and we are all happy with the arrangements. Best of luck! hello :) would you plz help me out here and tell me some details... like how did u manage to find her.. agency-paper ad -wat? how much does she earn per month... how did u deal with the contract/legalities... it'd be really great if u helped me out here coz i have a 4 months kid who[b'> drives me crazy... i mean REALLY crazy[/b'>... I don’t really understand what the issue is, I have and so do my friends have live out maids. Mine arrives at 7 am every day and will stay until I get home from work (sometimes 7pm) if I need her to baby sit at the weekend or on a evening (not very often) I pay for her cab fare home when I get in. My husband sponsors her and we keep her passport she keeps her emirates ID. Yes we pay her more than if she lived with us as we have to pay her wage, accommodation, travel and food but I don’t want someone living with me and when I get home there is no need for her to be there. She looks after my little girl and does the cleaning and ironing when my little girl naps or throughout the day (my little girl likes to help or follow her around with her own hover) it works very well for us as a family, As long as you pay for transport, accommodation and the maid can get to you easily I don’t see a problem with live out, I’m on a bus route and if I asked my nanny to work 10 – 10 instead I’m sure she wouldn’t mind. Like I say if it’s too late when I get home or a weekend I give her AED 50 for a taxi. My friend has a live out nanny that works 6 days a week, arrives at 6 am and stays untill 6pm ish, she baby sits once a week and stays over and works on a saturday half day. this also works very well for them. same for you lou plz.... i'd really appreciate some details... TIA

SkyKitty, I have been there. Sounds like myself in my late 20's/early 30's...looking back, it seems it was completely normal! You're just searching for yourself, that's all. It may be more obvious during certain times of the year. I decided not to worry that I was not satisfied with my life during that time. That's hardly a problem unless you afraid of fulfillment and excellence. I am not saying don't be grateful or happy today. You can be happy without being satisfied. It's a journey, not a destination. If you have new places you want to go, or try different career paths out, do it without fear. Trigger some inspiration within yourself by asking, "What would I do with my life if I knew I couldn't fail?" :D another way of what u r saying is always asking urself "WHY NOT" instead of "WHY" before doing anything.... doing this will make the sky ur limit :D

Ladies, Please give me your recommendations for which pyramids to see in Egypt. Needs to be reasonably close to Cairo as we have two little boys and will fly onto to Sharm el-Sheikh so we don't want to spend too much time tripping around. Will only spend 2-3 days seeing pyramids. Are they all equally as good or are there some that cannot be missed? Is a 2-3 day nile cruise doable or will we need to fly south to pick up the cruises? Plus will it be really boring for 5 & 7 year old boys? (that do love nature). Also where to stay in Sharm el-Sheikh? We want a hotel that has a good kids club but would prefer not to stay in areas that are too touristy/trashy? We both dive so want some time together but to also know the kids are well cared for. We are in need of some family R&R. TIA for your advice. sooooo u r going to Egypt... am egyptian :D first of all if u went to egypt right now it will be much much much cooler than dubai-35 celsuis day time, much cooler in the night... giza and cairo are called together "Greater cairo" so it's almost the same city... and giza have THE pyramids.. the wonder of the world... so not 2 b missed... how much time are u spending in egypt? if 15 days then a 3-4 daysnile cruise will be fantastic coz aswan and luxur are must see's... and the river nile itself will amaze u :) and abt sharm el sheikh... if u r a sea lover... try to stay at nabq bay or shark bay... try to avoid na'ema bay coz it's the TOURISTIC place where budha bar and pacha are.. clubbing and so... abt the hotel i'd recommend savoy and laguna vista... if u need anything just tell me.. i'd be happy to help...

Maybe leave him with dad when he cries and teach dad how to comfort him rather than having the baby handed back to you when he starts crying ? If he cries when his dad handles him then no doubt he will do the same with strangers. Start at home first - get the baby used to being handled by his dad would be the better answer I think :) good point... will try to :) wish me luck... and also if any1knows abt a day care let me know ;)

At 3 months old your baby should be very attached to you - and you to them, this is not abnormal but the way things should be. Babies under one year old thrive best when they are attached to one carer. Unless you are having difficulty with coping in being the main carer it would be best for your baby to be with you rather than being unnecessarily exposed (with an immature immune system) to all the bugs that can be commonly picked up from exposure to other young children. i totally agree with u... but when his father holds him for more than 5 mins he crushes into tears... i believe this is not normal... babies when get used to see more faces and deal with them they end up more social and open that;s all... as u read i am intending to be with him all time... but at the end of the day i still dont know what's right and wrong :)
