Hi TDB , What scratch recipe do you use to make vanilla cake . I use Glorious Treats' which uses buttermilk to make the cake moist. Will try it now to make rainbow cake. What frosting did you use for the cake? I like the dye method too. I made it by pouring colored batter in the center of the previous colored batter and it spread easily so no need to use a spoon to spread it. It looks nice when cut too. I used Wilton's vanilla cake recipe but it was dry, Bland and complete waste of everything. The colors came out lovely though.

Hi Naiyyar I'd be very surprised if Tavola is out of stock as they normally stock all sizes of the Wilton silver pans. Try the supermarkets - usually they have Prestige pans in there. Do you need sandwich tins (usually 8ins) or the deeper kind? Good luck! What are you baking? :) HA HA not that you asked me but since I read the thread, i am baking an apple tart! :) History,Could you please PHULEEZE share the recipe. Im reading a lot about it these days in blogs and want to try it. THANX

Thank you girls for the prompt replies. TDB, I went to these stores in Mirdif CC. I too was sure il get it from Tavola. The sales girl said that some stock will be coming but not sure when. But I need them in a day or two. Both the stores have have bigger sizes. Lakeland has pans with loose bases, again BIG size like 10 inch. Will try city center or other supermarkets. I prefer to have pans that are 2 to 3 inch deep only. Do the higher sides effect the baking time or end result of the cake? Im planning to bake a Cinamonny Banana Cake with Mocha Chocolate Frosting ;-) Thanx pinks will try choitram too. Beach road is very far for me plus im not acquanited with the roads there. Its like another city for me. But will call and see if they have the sizes I want.Thanx

I want the smaller one to make standard and small size cookies. I think i saw the OXO shop/Kiosk in MCC but dint go in it but i assume it'l be expensive. So want to know if there is any place i can get a pay-less-good-quality one. Thanx again

Naiyyar, Try Modern Bakery for general baking supplies (flour, butter, sugar etc) in bulk. Emf in Rashidiya is a specialist chocolate supplier and they have huge volumes of chocolate and cocoa items in bulk, but usually minimum order is 5kgs. The ICCA recommended them to me. If you're a keen baker and will use this stuff plentifully it is worth contacting them, however, for the home baker it's best to use smaller quantities found in the supermarkets. Chez Charles has been great helping me locate some hard to find ingredients so would also recommend them. Just saw this . Thank you TDB and everyone so much for all the info. Now have to plan a day to go purchasing. Im really glad to have found such open hearted community on EW.

Thank you so much TDB. I was infact waiting for your reply!!!! Hope u r feeling better now. Ya i too go for taste only and the difference in color dint matter that much too. plus it really pains me to see the amount of color. I really think and wonder how really EDIBLE are the edible food products that we use in baking? I plan to go to the DED in the near future to get information regarding license for F & B. Is there anything that i should ask them specifically. Thanx a tonne.

Hello EW Bakers, I made Red color by mixing Wilton Red (no-taste) Gel in all-butter Buttercream which is not pure white but slight yellowish due to the butter. I dint get pure red color instead i got a florescent red color which had a SLIGHT orange tinge to it no matter how much color i added. would really appreciate tips on how to get the desired red color to make rose swirls esp. Thank a ton

Hi The Dangerous Blonde, So nice to hear that you plan to set up some thing related to F&B. What exactly would you like to set up? Bakery , restaurant? Have you got any lead on how to go about this? will it help if ask people already running their bakeries etc. that how did they go about starting it? I too have heard that its very difficult with so much of finance and checking involved but then I feel that if one has the finances the plunge should be taken coz all the others in the business are also up and running. Would love to be at the inaugaration:) ALL THE BEST!!!

Thank you every one. I'll pass on the recommendations to my friend. This is a very painful disease, for the families too. Its a miracle to see the patient (her husband) alive and on the road to recovery but unfortunatley their is no vision now :-( As this is a very difficult case my friend is sending his reports to eye doctors she is told about. Thank you once again and please remember the couple in your prayers.

Thank you Cherry ripe and Beebers. Will go through the taste website. Beebers, I have wheat bran at home and would like to bake cookies for my father who is diabetic. We do use the bran with the normal chapati flour for making rotis (flat bread) but was thinking of using it to make cookies especially for him. Mostly the recipes online are for muffins and you are right they use honey or applesauce. Im choosing cookies as i feel they'll keep longer unless i stuff them with chocolate chips ;-). Its ok if the recipe contains a bit of flour. I''l try tweaking a recipe, use his sweetner tablet and see the results. Thanx again

Does it not make you feel so superior to ridicule others in the way they speak and spell English :)..it amazes me how those who do not speak the 'proper' Queens English have managed all these years to actually make themselves understood. May I suggest, that you become conversant in other cultures way of expressing themselves and be able to overlook their transgressions in their handling of the English language :) BuckeyeD you are right, it is also used in Canadian English. I would not know how else to ask someone to 'stand in line'...would that be 'stand on the line' or wait, Queue. So, there you have it :)....lots of nationalities speaking English in different ways. My huge pet peeve is once again, another thread that rants about the way people spell and say things. Talk directly to the person who is bugging you!!! directly!!! say something to their face!!! Ridiculing people on here is just a personal ego boost. My personal rant is over. true

Thank you SueB! Hate these kind of threads! edited by ayaana on 07/08/2012 Harsh lessons perhaps but could prove to be effective way to learn for some adults! There are certainly better ways to learn other than being ridiculed for your spelling than on a woman s forum :) Certainly much better ways to get a point across. true

I went for the first time to this mosque this Friday with my husband and baby daughter (9months) to discover that children were not allowed in! It was super hot outside and the cleaner did not allow me at the women section. After a long fight i managd to wait outside but in the shade and after my husband was done with the prayer, I went upstairs to the women prayer room while my husband held the baby to find three kids in the prayer room, the room that was big and almost empty !!! The cleaner/ guard told me then: "u can go from the other door with the child" what amazes me is that both entries/doors lead to the same room! So I don't get it why others were allowed in while not us, and make me miss the prayer. I was and still am very upset. I don't recommend this mosque despite its luxury! It is clearly not family friendly! We tried to contact management to complain but no one was available! If you have their number, please would give it to me as I called the information number and they don't have it o_O. gaijind, May be they have this no-children entry policy to maintain the quite atmosphere in the mosque. Your chid is small, But its usual to see children crying and running around in the mosque with no control what so ever. This is the address and number i got on the website: http://alfarooqcentre.com/ [email protected] 04-3944448 Hope it helps and please dont be upset :) Ramadhan Mubarak.
