Thinking of you and your dog. You are doing all you can, take comfort in that thought. Those of us who have been in similar situations are "walking" along with you. Please let us know how he gets on. Big hugs.

I had one particular urgent foster, a spayed mom who's babies had been taken away the same day as the spaying. The poor little thing was beside herself as mastitis had also set in.After medication and LOADS of TLC and spending time with her all was well. She went on to find a wonderful forever home. All the very best.

I have lived all over the place, need a bit more specific info. For instance are you looking at the East or West. For instance Japan, some of the apartments do allow pets some don't. Excellent vet facilities though quite expensive. Florida some owners allow some don't. Depending on where you live excellent vets, fees can be quite expensive. If it is an emergency ring the mobile number. In my opinion they are the most fantastic, caring and compasionate vets in dubai. I had to call at 3 am one morning and they were there for me. I will never use any other vet in dubai. Hope your animal is ok ACB Second that ACB ( Hi BTW, sold my BBQ to you! ). They were the most fantastic people to deal with and did so much for all my rescues/fosters . Phone them on the cell and you should get through.

I think its more than just fear driven, I think the majority of people think about how their decisions and actions would affect others rather than what consequences they'd face by authority or god. Agree, well put.

I wanted her to have kittens as she doesnt accept any other cat. I have tried getting a cat for her company twice but had to return them back. Having kittens will not change anything, she will be even worst with your other cat. I hope all the kittens she will have will not end up on the street.... Jeez Kristina_rmnv, why are you being so rude? Best of luck with your situation Sl x Becuse she gives up her energy, time and money fighting for a cause she believes in. No doubt she would have given excellent advice had she been asked before it got to this point, for someone who works with strays and unwanted animals every day it's frustrating i guess to see more kittens born, especially when it may not solve the OPs original problem! OP I hope the next vet you see gives good advice and you can sort out what you have to do!, one way or another! Good posts LB & GA Kristina's ONLY interest is the welfare of the starys, dumped and abused animals in the ME.I think you can only pass judgement if "you have walked a mile in her shoes" so to say. OP, Sue has an awful lot of experience in this field,I would really consider all her points, she has so to say been there done that. Print up flyers with a reward, pass around your neighbourhood to maids, gardeners, security etc. Post them up at all retail outlets in the area. Phone the vets and put up flyers in their offices. Put a BIG notice in dubizzle with a picture appealing for his return. Contact pet shops in your area and keep an eye out he might just "turn up". Advise municipality that you have lost an African Grey, long shot but you never know. I would also put a post on the main forum and ask the mods to please leave it up. Hope you find Max soon. Please see the doctor ASAP. My son suffered terribly from depression and severe mood swings as a young child and into his teens. We took a very conservative attitude in the early years "come on buck up,pull yourself together" etc. together with loads of hugs talking and showering him with love.We honestly just thought he got into otherwise and difficult moods. At the age of 17 despite his protests I took him to see the GP. He was diagnosed with a chemical imbalance and has been on medication ever since. It was a real uphill battle to get him to take the medication.A result of an overzealous mother and father warning/showing their kids about the dangers of drug addiction! As a previous poster said we compared it to someone with diabities having to take theirinsulin, this seemd to help.He is now 30,still on medication and tested regularly. Life has got easier for him since he has been on medication. Discuss everything with the doctor ie if and when you want to have children, what to do during pregnancy and after (that is of course if you are at that stage in your life). As has been said start making list of your symptons and feeings and when you are at your worst/best. Please don't take our attitude that it will go away if you change your frame of mind, it might not. Sending huge hugs your way. <em>edited by Nomad on 24/01/2012</em>

You are such a giving person, don't know you personally but have "got to know you" for the past year on EW. You sharing your story is once again giving back and helping others who have or will one day go through what you have just had to. It seems to me you have handled this very well with your little ones (beautiful names BTW) and no don't beat yourself up about sharing your news. Most importantly allow yourself time to grieve and heal. As blinkthink said, heaven has another angel. More hugs XXXX

Contact local vets put up flyers in their offices with microschip no. Put up an ad on dubizzle with the reward. Being older and not too good with computors my first foray onto EW was a mixed bag. Some of the posters were really short with me and others were so sweet in defending my question. It took an awful lot for me to post again. When asking a question or responding I always imagine the people I am communicating with are right in front of me. Internet communications have good and bad aspects, one of the issues I feel is the anonomous nature of the correspondance. In many ways it does protect you but to some it is a licence to be rude. When I share information I do it because I can,not for a reward or a pat on the back. It is nice when someone comes back to thank me but I dont get bothered if they don't. My gran used to say always roll a stone out of anothers path if you can.One day someone will do the same for you. ;) <em>edited by Nomad on 17/01/2012</em>

I know this is a long shot ,distance wise, but on the pet forum someone has found a black and white cat. The microschip etc. is not registered . They have posted a photo. If this isn't your cat a few things you can do: Print up a few flyers with photo and reward, pass these out to the local maids and gardeners.Put up said flyers at all retail outlets in the area.Contact the vets in your area put flyers up in their offices.Contact the municipality, but follow up with a visit to their offices to check up on the cats they have collected. Go out in the quiet of the evening shake a box of bikkies calling cats name. Ask you neighbours to check up on garages, sheds and even cars as cats get trapped very easily in these areas. All the best.

Honestly I think the import of ANY type of wild animals into Dubai should be completely halted until the zoo is dealt with. There is no excuse to be bringing in more animals just to turn a profit when that place still exists, is woefully underfunded and is literally the worst zoo I have ever seen in terms of animal welfare. I am well aware that a very dedicated gentleman was trying to keep the animals in good health, but honestly until the government OR the private sector commit to relocating and/or euthanising those animals, no more should be brought in. I'm not saying that these penguins won't be cared for adequately (though I hope there is a massive fence around the enclosure to stop people chucking things/banging on the glass etc), but there is a much bigger issue here which IMO needs to be dealt with before the place becomes inundated with more animals. I've seen the penguins at the Dubai Mall and if these new ones are treated anything like that I will be writing to San Diego along with many others I hope. PS does anyone know if the tigers are still in their cage (yes CAGE, not enclosure) outside the Dubailand office on EK road? I haven't been for at least a year but they were there last time I went. And people yell at me for having an adopted husky!! Jeez. I have also never met anyone who supports animal rights to be "cool"...don't think I know those kind of people luckily for me. edited by GirlAnachronism on 16/01/2012 Could not have put it better myself.....;)

In Canada there is a definate push for Pet Shops to rather offer rescue pets for adoption rather than selling farmed animlas. I only support those pet shops that have adopted this practice. As Greenish has said on numerous occasions if you want a particular breed source an ethical breeder.......... SkyKitty it sounds like you had the perfect pet shop experience when you were a child, and it has obviously made an impression on you. It would be wonderful if they all operated with this ethic. I too know exactly where my meat ,eggs, chicken come from and yes it costs more but I cut corners in other areas.

As a young child I grew up in the bush in Africa. Life was hard but seemd perfect to me,animals roamed free. I know this is almost impossible today but with awareness and education the public can put pressure on organisations who dont' have the animals welfare at heart. My dad would go on "hunting" trips just to disrupt the hunters,my mom would "rescue" the most lethal snakes when they were injured LOL. SkyKitty in all of my dealings with animal rescue groups (believe me there have been many ) I have yet to come across anyone who does it to be "cool". There is just too much hard work involved for it to be cool LOL. I think I can speak for many,we get involved in animal issues because we care. As Greenish has said ( Hi Greenish ....) research any number of posts about helping out labourers or someone handling a crisis etc. and see who responds with offers of help or advice. Like other posters I never visited Atlantis on principal because of Sammy AND the swimmimg with dolphins. If everyone simply didn't turn up to support these attractions they would cease to operate.

If you trim the branches right back to the stem they wont re grow, however if you trim them a few inches above the stem they will bush out again with new growth. After trimming the sap will seal the cut,it is best to trim/prune during the dormant cycle ie spring to summer. I used to top mine and trim to suite the size and area I wanted it to cover. Good luck.

Sorry you are so ill. I suffered with pretty much the same issues you have. Went for umteen tests and they were never able to pin point the problem exactly. We lived in Japan for 3 yrs prior to coming to DXB, the doctors came to the conclusion that I had caught something from eating sushimi (so upset as I LOOOOVE it).Giardia is very common in DXB and I would get these symptoms, but much worse. The advice from previous posters about washing hands, food, and not eating out rather at home is spot on. I can honestly say that since we left DXB I rarely get vomiting attacks anymore (2 in the last 2 years ). I think the fact that virtually everything is imported, and who knows how it is handled once it gets to DXB etc. has a lot to do with these tummy bugs. I really feel for you and hope you can get to the bottom of the problem. All the best P.S. Don't eat any raw fish.....

People in Dubai want fast growing trees as hardly anyone spends more than 2 years in the same house. By the time the trees mature it’s time to move out :) I am moving into a house that backs on Dubai Bypass road and need something that will give me privacy and protection from the noise within a year. I see all the neighbouring houses have Damas trees. I have read the poinciana is also considered invasive and the root system prevents the growth of other plants under or around it . Nomad, do you have any grass under it? Any other trees that can achieve this growth within a year? edited by Eli1979 on 02/01/2012 You are right very little grows under the trees in DXB not just poinciana. The grass does not have a very strong root system, any bit of shade and it dies back. What I did was plant ground cover and in specific areas put a bit of paving/ gravel for shady areas to sit under. My neighbours damas trees completely killed the soil on my side of the wall .I eventually managed to convince him that I would keep the trees on my side cut right back and that he should top his trees regularly ( prune them like a hedge). This however did not stop the roots lifting the wall. It is difficult striking the right balance , as you say people in DXB move so often and when you do move the garden is ripped out and brought back to desert. All the best and happy gardening. <em>edited by Nomad on 03/01/2012</em>

As AR says be carfeul with bamboo it can eventually invade your entire garden. The little shoots start coming up every where and are near impossible to get rid of. I opted for Poinciana trees they grew at a steady pace and matured to a large shade tree in three years. The Damas are a big NO NO. My neighbours trees lifted our villa wall in search of water.

If you're thinking about renting, just do what you'd do if you were thinking about buying. If the villa comes with all 'white goods' turn them on and use them. Turn on the cooker, the fridge, freezer, put the washing machine, dish washer, tumble dryer through a complete cycle. Flush all toilets several times, turn on showers, fill baths and empty them. Turn on A/C. If the agent won't allow you to do this simply walk away because the chances are that, if you're paying for working white goods as part of the tenancy agreement and they won't let you test them, they may well not be in working order anyway. "GREED" is back unfortunately. Check whether or not the LL has a maintenance agreement (certainly for A/C, pumps for water supply etc) and who has to pay for this - you or the LL. Re tiling in bathrooms/kitchens - check it out. Knock on the tiles - if they haven't been properly fixed to the wall they'll sound hollow. Those that have been properly fixed will have a dull sound. Trust me, you'll know if they haven't been properly fixed. We don't rent, we own. These are things we've been told by friends who've always rented. HTH In addition to this valuable advice, check out the thread Shoreline-Landlord arrears on management charges.....A lot of do's and dont's discussed re checking accom out and contracts.

I have used Air Canada from Japan to Canada however never the other way around ( I always seem to bring them all back home to Canada !!) They were good, however I am not sure if they still do animals as internally they stopped a while back ( this too could have changed as this was back in 2007). KLM and BA are tops in my book and I would use an airline with a track record transporting animals. Dubai Kennel Club and Cattery are really good and know their stuff. They have a very user friendly site, have a chat with them. All the best with the furry family.;)

Please remember most importantly have ALL innoculations up to date esp RABIES as depending on where you are re locating to this can be a big ssue. As I have said before ( like a broken record LOL) put a bit away every month in a "kitty fund" as it can be very expensive when re locating animals. You are wise to think ahead.;)

Would so love to take one of these pups, fact is, they're here and we cant change that, and at least we would make the effort to take the best care of a breed not so suited to the climate, but paying for one would only encourage the owner to breed them again i think... :( Exactly...as I have said with boring repetition in the past, buying one does not 'rescue' it. Buying one ensures that the jerks who bred it have the money to produce even more. :( It breaks my heart to leave animals in pet shops, but I will not contribute to the industry. *Ditto* <em>edited by Nomad on 16/12/2011</em>

I like the fact that no matter what is discussed, asked, etc. you will generally get a helpful reply or a good point to the discussion. Yes there are those who just come on to stir but if you overlook those the helpful people are just like an enclyclopedia of Dubai. @amazingdxb To give a persinal happy ending: In 2009 my GS was born and my DIL nearly bled to death after the birth.I was in DXB and she was in Canada. My husband was having major surgery and I couldn't be there. I was devestated and asked the ladies on EW to please pray for us. Not only were there loads of ladies praying one lady even offered to give blood if it would help.I was overcome with all the kindness from people I had never met. The prayers were heard and DIL pulled through.GS is now a happy healthy almost 2 yr old bundle of monkeys and my dear DIL is healthy once again. The other happy endings I love are the uniting of pets with their owners. The adoption or fostering of pets when appeals go out. yes I am an animal nut ! "Don't cry because it's over - smile because it happened" What beautiful words San, and so very apt. SalsB you will move on and there will be new friends. After having lived in 6 countries I in fact tried to keep friendships at a distance as it were, in the later years. This didn't work as I love mixing with like minded people. Thanks to the internet it is really easy to keep contact today. I am very good at keeping contact, some people aren't, those you tend to leave behind. Initially you really miss your bessie mates but you move on and open up to new friendships. In Sept. we caught up with close friends we had in Bahrain,we had not seen each other for 20 odd years. Honestly it was as if the years just melted away, for 3 days it was non stop talking. After many bottles of wine and buckets of laughter and tears we said good bye promising to meet up again in 2013. As expats we are so fortunate to meet people from all over and I always found that a fellow expat always understood me a lot better than my fellow countryman. This I think is one of the reasons EW works so well as we understand each other ( well most of the time LOL ) as we are all very much in the same boat. Our friends are many times our family and when they leave or we leave it hurts. Enjoy the time you have left with each other and stay in touch no matter what. All the best :)
