Sorry to read you are in this situation. I would certainly take action, but that's easy to say as I come from a totally different background. Can you contact your Embassy? Maybe the can contact your family in Pakistan or help you in any other way. There are many Pakistani ladies on this Forum. Maybe one of them has better suggestions. Please take care of yourself and your baby. xx

LOL! Whoops! I didn't but it would appear that my 3yr old did whilst I was off getting her lunch! Haha, in that case your 3yr old could probably teach your friends nanny/maid all she needs to know ?

There has never been a "transfer" rule or procedure. If a maid wants to start with a new sponsor before her contract with the "old" sponsor is up, the latter should cancel her visa. The new sponsor then has 30 days to process a new visa, with all applicable costs, medical etc. Only after the new visa has been issued, the old sponsor can get the deposit back (he/she needs to show a copy of the maids new visa page). Edited to say: just saw your post on the maids forum Fay. The new sponsor needs (a copy of) your cancellation in order to start up the visa application. But it will be a whole new visa though. hth edited by Oopsiedaisy on 06/06/2013

If your friend has employed a nanny, I don't see why she has to learn about sleeping patterns and milk preparations. A nanny will know all these things, because she has had a proper education. Including first aid etc. Your post sounds as if your friends have employed a maid, who will do the cleaning as well as taking full time care of the baby. In that case your friend can use all the help she can get, because a lot of maids are not educated enough or interested in taking the courses you mention.

I agree with Di that it is deceptive of them. On the other hand, this forum proves how difficult it is to find a good hairdresser in Dubai. You have been happy with them so far. I would stick with them and from now on let them give you a full blow dry. Looking fabulous is never a waste.

Hmm, that must be because of the international embargo then? On your other thread someone mentioned to contact one of the agency's that deal with Kish and visa's. Maybe they can help you get money to your maid? Her 200 AED must have run out by now. Are you at least able to communicate with her so she knows what's going on? On another note, I am very happy that, apart from this mess, life is looking up for you. I remember your post early last year (I just arrived here, your's was one of the first I read) and things were really tough for you back then. I hope you get all of this sorted out soon, so you can get back enjoying life, your girls, your job and your move to Abu Dhabi. Take care Ginee.

SWIFT is a code banks use for international transfers. Why don't you go to your nearest Western Union branch? They will be able to tell you if there is a branch on Kish. If not, they will transfer money to one of the other banks there, and your maid can collect the money from there. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 05/06/2013

As Sakhifa says, it is all about overall fitness. So leave the car, escalator and elevator. And do 10 minutes of sit-ups, push-ups and lunges twice a day. That's how my DH did it and he isn't the greatest sportsman around. And to succeed the climb it is much better to take a slightly longer hike up. The success rate goes up with the number of days you give yourself. The shorter the hike, the less chance to reach the summit.

Hi Ginnee, is there an update?? Did you husband find the LL? LL didn't turn up yesterday - we are seeing what to do today.... in the meantime if anyone knows of any babysitting service I'm in desperate need next week for a baby sitter In Abu Dhabi near Rahba hospital. Sunday, Monday, Tues, Weds, Thurs from 7.30am-4pm. If anyone has suggestions or knows of someone good, please advise asap. Thanks alot. Or if you know of any nursery that would take children 4.5 years old...... Does that mean your maid will be stuck in Kish for the whole week??

Ok first sort out your maids visa, go to Satwa and organize to bring her back on a visit visa - it will cost about 1200Dhs for the visa and it can be done in 2 days - you will have to leave a security deposit, which will be returned when the visa is cancelled. Bring her back and you have 60 days to get her employment visa organized. Get her out of kish asap - its a really terrible place and those girls have to do awful things to survive if they have no money - also that way you can still work. thanks for this advice will tell hubby You have a huge lot on your plate, but as Ilovechoos says, get your maid out of Kish. That should be your first and foremost priority right now.

OMG Ginnee, what a terrible mess. Very sorry you are facing this whilst you thought you had everything arranged. I don't have much experience with this, so cannot offer much advice? If I were in your situation I would ask the PRO of my or DH's company for advice with regards to the maid and her visa. They might be willing and able to help? The landlord, hmm, that sounds a bit dodgy. Is your DH in Abu Dhabi now and can he go check on the villa to see if it is even accessible to you?

When she gets what she wants, she's happy, but she doesnt get it....then the strike begun....when i said strike that's mean not talking to me, no hi nothing, no smiling, disrespect me...things that make me wonder why am ii keeping her. She talks to hubby, says good morning, treat the boys okay.....but refuse to communicate with me. . TSI, normally I tend to be a softie if it comes to maids, but I think it's time to let this lady go.

I know several people with live out maids so I thought this was fine as long as you cover their accomodation/travel costs? I think many live out live in Satwa. True. We have a maid on our sponsorship. She doesn't live with us, but in Satwa. There is nothing illegal about it, as long as you know where and with whom she lives, and make sure she doesn't work anywhere else but in your house.

We have been asked once or twice to pay (partly) for a ticket to fly another family member over on a visit visa. We have helped and the advance was paid back over two or three months by taking it out of her salary. This year we have agreed on no advances anymore. She has informed her family that she doesn't get to ask for advances, so they stop bothering her. She's happy with that. At the same time we have 'decreased' her salary. We keep it for her as savings, but now she can tell her family that she has no money left to send home. Somehow not having physical access to it makes it easier on her to refuse the ongoing demands for extra money from her family.

June through September we water 10 minutes at both 6am and 6 pm. Rest of the year 5 minutes twice a day. This works for us. Green grass all year long. If you water too late or too early, the humidity will prevent the grass from absorbing your watering.

never heard of it...seems there's always something to panic over these days !! lol Actually, it is the successor of SARS, now originating in the ME instead of South Asia. Nobody is "panick-mongering" , just asking a question because it really seems to be something to worry about. Are the hospitals prepared to deal with it? In Europe many governments and hospitals are taking precautions.

I believe there is a new rule, which gives you the opportunity to raise the rent on a 3 month notice before the end of contract. Regardless of Rera registration (which I believe you should take care of after the renewal). If you rent to the same tenant, you will have to adhere to the Rera calculator. If you have a new tenant, you may do as you like.

IMO it goes 2 ways. She cannot go if/when it doesn't suit you. However you cannot make her go at a time she doesn't want to go. You would have to mutually agree on the timing. Having your privacy invaded upon is part of the deal when employing a maid. You cannot make her take her holidays just because you need the house to yourself.

[ wow... do people really do this ?? Agree Pikachu, I find it very condescending and disrespectful that people think they can treat human beings this way. This whole thread is bordering hysteria if you ask me. I totally disagree. If you have spent close to 10000dhs on sponsorship fees, then the maid breaks the contract through stealing, mistreating children, etc then you need to get them away from your home and end your liablity towards them in the quickest, safest way. If a maid works hard, doesn't break her contract then of course it would be totally inappropriate but in some instances it is the best thing to do. The OP (maids forum) was about the maid not mentioning she had left the house to see her sisters. Not about stealing or mistreating children. And even if a maid does, that is no excuse to sink to the same level.

You should probably not be expecting too much with only a high school certificate (not trying to be mean, just stating the facts as I see them). Good luck.

You mention that you are both expats. Does that mean you have a job as well? If not: come over, live together, bring your dogs. As Littlelou says, there will be no quarantine issues. I would move into a villa, would never live in an apartment with dogs. But be prepared for a very different life from the one you are currently living. If you do have a job it might be different, depending on the job. Keep in mind that it is very difficult to find a job here, and virtually impossible to find a part time job.

We pay 2500 for live-out. 5 days 08.00-16.00 ****** ****...... How is any supposed to survive on that living out? I cannot believe anyone would pay this and think it's ok. Shocking, just shocking I really don't think it is up to you to judge. Our maid is very happy, her previous employer had her work 6 days of 10-12 hours, living out (excl. a commute of 3 hours a day) and paying far less then 2500. She works less then her contract says, usually only 3 days a week. She manages to save about 30% of her earnings. She eats at our house or takes food home, gets loads of stuff she sells, extras etc. and before anyone else starts, no, she is not having other jobs on the side.

Yes, its called holiday pay and what you are supposed to do by law. If she doesn't want to go home, you still need to pay her the holiday pay, what you give her for the ticket is at your discretion. edited by Purple on 04/05/2013 No, she is entitled to be paid for the time that she is away, but if she chooses not to go then she does not get paid extra. I disagree. She is entitled to one month paid leave. If she works during her leave (and you let her) you should pay her extra.

I am cancelling my maids visa and I have helped her find a new position here in Dubai. She has been with us for 5 years, salary 1900. I know by law I do not have to pay her any gratuity but what do you think would be a fair 'golden handshake'? I don't understand this thread - you go from this original post - sounds reasonable - to wholeheartedly agreeing with the first 2 people who post " kick her to the touch" and then you feel so much better? You don't explain what she HAS been given - even recently - and only dribble that information out...bit of a time waster if you ask me....................... My thoughts exactly. And personally I would always give someone a bonus at the end of contract, especially someone who has worked for me 5 years and is leaving because I ask her to.

Why anyone would take their kids to any concert on a school night is beyond me. Sorry, but most concerts here start late, and JB is known to come on stage late, so you were warned. And with respect to JB himself, he's just a kid who doesn't know better. Apparently no one around him to properly support or manage him. I believe he's doomed and I truly feel sorry for him.

Well, it was pouring in Dubai as well, pretty much all afternoon yesterday. Boy, does a sightseeing tour with relatives look different then.. This morning I wake up to blue and sunny skies, but the forecasts say differently. I'm just as happy as all of you to postpone the heat and humidity, just not these 2 weeks with a house full of sun expecting guests ?
