Mabrook Marroosh, that is wonderful news. Wishing you all the happiness in the world. Gefeliciteerd, ? en een bosje tulpen voor jou. Not so long ago you were wondering if you'd ever find the right guy. Now you have. I bet there's a few ladies on here who would like to know how you did it. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 09/04/2013

Your first line confused me a bit. That said, congrats on your baby boy. And with regards to the Christening, I don't think there would be "a norm" for this in a Muslim country, and even if there was, I think you should celebrate the way you want, with the people you choose.

Jeano, just wanted to say thank god for colleagues like you. Hope they get it sorted out. This is so unfair. We were at Shakespeare's the other day. Waiter forgot to put our tarts on the bill. Never seen a happier guy then when we mentioned this to him. Bet he would have had to pay it himself if we hadn't said something.

I don't think you can. The sponsor is the only one. Why would you want to cancel? It has no impact when you are in UK and will expire eventually. Just register as residing in UK again.

We have just booked Parrilla at JBH, has anyone done that brunch? It's eye wateringly expensive but the Entertainer has a BOGOF voucher valid til end of May! Yep, did it in January (offer has been going since last year). Sophisticated atmosphere and very good food, do not expect the regular brunch (or crowd for that matter). Starters and desserts are buffet, mains are a la carte and prepared to your liking. We loved it and will do it again.

HI Ladies, Does the 2,200-3,000 dhs cover all living expenses, including their living space, utilities, food, toiletries....? Yes, but 2200 is too low for a live-out IMO. I pay 2500 a month, with extra's (christmas, birthday, an occasional gift for her kids etc.) totalling up to another 2500/year. And of course she has lunch at our house, but breakfast and dinner she eats at home. She lives nearby, so doesn't need transportation. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 02/04/2013

Thanks for posting back. Will check them out. In the meantime I found some really comfy but pretty and elegant ones. 1 inch heels! Anne Klein is the brand, I bought them in Jumeirah Town Centre (next to Mercato). Paid 275, not bad at all ? edited by Oopsiedaisy on 02/04/2013 edited by Oopsiedaisy on 02/04/2013

Thanks, will give both of them a try (although Mirdiff and JBR are a bit far, am in Jumeirah 1, couldn't locate Mary Foot Spa in Jumeirah), and see which one I prefer. Jay, I went to Dubai Podiatry Centre on SZR www.podiatrydubai.com The podiatrist I spoke to (think her name was Emma) took her time, did some test, and send me off with some extra padding in my Birkenstocks to release some tension. Seems to help. Paid 400 for the 45 minute consult, 40 for the padding.

Depends on size mainly, none of them are really really really good. Just get a very heavy one and make sure to stick it to the floor or wall. Anything between 300 and 3000.

I never really got it - are these the same vouchers that come with the new credit card..? I have HSBC gold card and when I've lost the card they always send a booklet of these vouchers together with the new card.. and I think DH gets similar booklet (a bit different restaurants etc) but the same idea with Emirates NBD.. The same vouchers. The booklet however contains only a few vouchers, some from Family, some from Fine Dining. But it is an nice selection, so you might not need the real Entertainer Books.

Lots of kids in the priority seatings 1, 2 and 3. Hardly any drunk people, so if you didn't go this year, you might consider to go next year. No kids packages though, they pay full price.

Absolutely what I think. My running visa total for this years hiring was 7,200dhs; including Emirates ID, Healthcare Insurance and all Abu Dhabi visa fees. We plan to hire a new Housemaid in September and a Dubai fiend explained to me that she was about to pay her new Maids 1 year visa, [b'>after she had her 3month trial visa. ????[/b'> I want to do that. That is my biggest concern, paying out 7,200 and having issues in a couple months. Three months is the perfect amount of time to see clearly before investing the entire expense. Anyone with recent information on this? As far as I know there's no such thing in Dubai either.

Ti thread has Made me feel good!i thought everyone but me wore heels all the time! Me too! I always feel underdressed, wherever I look I see women wearing high heels. Shoe shops seem to sell only high heels or flats. Where can I find elegant shoes with only a 1 or 2 inch heel? And please don't tell me that's an oxymoron because it works for me.

Bumbola, if it is just you and your husband, I would not live in AR. It is a lovely community, but as a couple I would choose to live somewhere more exiting. I would think you would be bored being alone all day, always needing your car to go somewhere. Old Town, Jumeirah are both centraly located and lots going on at short, even walking, distance. Commuting from there to AR will not take you more then 25 minutes, so your husband will be fine. We're a couple, we choose to live in town, Jumeirah 1 and just love it. We live in a villa, so enjoy the outdoors but are still in the midst of the hustle and bustle of downtown. Beach is a 10-minute walk away. So are all the small shopping malls and restaurants and cafes on Beachroad. Commute is no problem.

If you want to pay of the loan in 2 years, get them to make you an offer that does. The early pay off percentage is very tricky, conditions may vary per bank and even within a bank since they will have several different consumer loan schemes with different conditions. I would say that you need the loan to be fully paid off before you leave Dubai. Anyway you're probably better off by getting a loan in your home country to pay of the outstanding amount here, then start making the payments to your home bank. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 13/03/2013

I would think the 25 age limit is a larger obstacle then the CC. Most countries/companies do not rent cars to people under 25. But I don't know about UAE.

What amazes me is that people who don't have a clue, pose their so-called advice as facts, rather then an opinion. Anyway, for me personally, I would have never wanted to live in Dubai. Would have chosen India and Mumbai over Dubai any time. Currently making the best of a not so good situation. And it works. I'm happy, doing things I'd never dreamt of doing (like being on EW, going to coffee mornings, malls, having my nails done, basically being a Jumeirah Jane). My friends are stunned. So I wish you all the best in your decision making. Do let us know if you move. Good luck.

Tim Tam, I never lived in Mumbai, but neither have most other posters who replied. So after reading all their negatives, here's my 2 cents of advice. I have travelled the world, business, pleasure as well as an expat. Never have I been so culture shocked as when I landed in Delhi, 20 years ago. After the initial shock we had the best holiday (6 weeks) ever. Surely that is no comparison for living there, but we did seriously consider moving to Bangelore 6 years ago. The job fell through, but if it hadn't, we would have moved. In the end it is all about you and your family. What do you need to make you happy. How flexible are you, are you capable of making the best of a not so good situation. Your husband may not be a CEO, his company may very well be able to provide good living and schooling. As with the crowds and traffic, you'll get used to it (most women on this forum are afraid even to drive here in Dubai, says more about them then about the traffic here IMO). So go for a visit, thoroughly discuss the company's package and conditions, and if you think your family is up for it, take the plunge.
