Why not tell the owner the truth: that you are home all day working, and that the dog's constant barking is bothering you. That is hardly offensive. See how they react, and take it from there to maybe mention the poor dog's living conditions.

lol...so all this is normal husband behavior...good to know! I've been fretting for nothing...my husbands insists I leave his shoes where he KEEPS them( i.e on the floor,in the middle of bedroom!) because he cant find them when I put them away (i.e in the shoe drawer where u can see them the moment u open it!)....dont understand! My DH can't even find his shoes when I DO leave them where he keeps them.

free delivery to meadowes, springs, motor city, barsha, emirates hills and tecom If it's delivered, it's NOT homemade. I think she is home making it and delivering it to those locations - isn't that homemade? Not in my book

I think I would change from cocktail to long dress in between. I can hardly believe they will keep you occupied between 3.30 and 9 In which country is this wedding, how well do you know the bride. Couldn't you just ask?

Black Tie would not neccesarily mean long dress for women. Cocktail dress is also fine, as long as it's formal and festive and more dressed up then you would normally wear to a party. For men to wear black tie in the afternoon is quit strange though. Are you sure that you're not meant to change clothes after the ceremony, for dinner and party? edited by Oopsiedaisy on 20/05/2012 edited TWICE for spelling. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 20/05/2012

With respect to the area, check the recent thread on Satwa. Al Baada borders Satwa, so I guess most what was said fits Al Baada as well, maybe with a little less proximity to the shops.

What brand did you use? It will depend on the ingredients whether or not it is harmful for your floor, but most likely it won't be.

As you say, he's not your best friend. Don't fuss and just make appointments with the new girl. If she ends up leaving, bear in mind that over the last 7 years many good hairdressers have come to Dubai. If you're too embarrassed to go back to "the old" guy, you will find another one that does great things with your hair. Most women are like you, including myself, sometimes driving miles to go to their familiar hairdresser who is the only one who can do the job. Only to find out that (while he's away and the hair needs to be done) that there are others who do a good job as well. And for now just tell the guy that you liked her work and, after 7 years, were ready for a change. Me might be too! edited by Oopsiedaisy on 20/05/2012

Hi Spongmonkey, I've ordered from Currybox a couple of times over the last few months. Must say I really like it. We usually order a chicken, lamb and a vegetable dish, with rice and naan. It serves 2 adults for 2 days easy. The naan comes a bit sticky, because it's wrapped in foil. BUT: The other day I received their menu under the door. They have now added the calories to their dishes. Not a good idea! I was shocked. Less curry for me in the future!! :(

Unfortunately that part hasn't changed. It is still illegal to employ anyone who is not from an agency, or who isn't under your sponsorship. There is no such thing as a housekeeper "on her own visa". Are there no agencies that provide 2 or 3 hours? Or else you could maybe add ironing to the tasks?

It pleases me that so many people in Dubai turn their noses up at Satwa because i get to live in my spaceous apartment in this beautiful area for a very reasonable price! and munch on Ravi's at least once a week for under 10 dirhams. Not anymore, if this thread goes on much longer. ;)

You didn't sound high maintenance, Just not really clear. Anyway, why don't you invite some of the neighbors and/or mums from school over for coffee. You are a newbie after all. Where I come from it is perfectly normal for newbies to go around knocking on doors to introduce themselves. It may take a bit of courage, since it doesn't seem to be the norm here, but we've all been in the same position, so it will probably be appreciated. And if it isn't, I wouldn't qualify them as "normal like minded".

I would expect an instructor here to say that :D On occasions ie if the traffic lights have just turned red then i do put in neutral as I know it is going to be a long wait and why put pressure on my brakes for that length of time...I believe ( having had youngsters do tests recently in the UK) that it is to do with " when a pause becomes a wait" and then you are supposed to apply the handbrake for safety reasons. edited by spongemonkey on 16/05/2012 It has nothing to do with instructors here. This is the way I was taught back home, many many years ago.

Hi Daysyday, This is NOT an answer to you question, but want to mention it anyway: Have you considered finding a good home for your cat in Canada, and adopting a kitten or abandoned cat here? There are sooo many cats looking for a good home, it seems a bit silly to bring another one. I presume your DD's will open up to a new cat quickly, most kids do. Would imagine that only a non cat owner would suggest such a thing.. Oke oke, point well taken. And FYI I have owned and loved a cat (who was dumped by someone else). I had to leave her at my parents when I moved to the US, they have taken good care of her until she passed away. But IMHO it's ludicrous to start comparing cats to kids as one of the posters did.

I believe it is both ticket AND 1 month pay. I thought it was once a year, though that may have changed recently. I am interested to know how others are going to apply that, if indeed it has changed from once a year to once every 2 years. Ladies???

Take her to France, see a bit of Paris, maybe Euro Disney, go camping along a cool river where you can do lots of adventurous things like kayaking, prepare your own food on the BBQ, make a campfire etc.

it seems a bit silly to bring another one. I So when she leaves Dubai, should she also leave this cat she has adopted and get a new one in another location? I think that sounds far sillier That's not what I said. I am only asking if she is able to find a good home for the cat in Canada. Dubai has a huge cat problem, Canada has no such thing.

ha2011, difficult position you are in. With regards to your questions: 1. A nanny/maid for that many hours will be more expensive then daycare 2. Sponsoring is your best and cheapest option. Advertise on EW classifieds as well as Dubizzle. Mention you have 14 months twins. I am sure you will have plenty of responses. 3. Don't get 2 maids. It's too expensive, you don't have the room to put them. If a SAHM can manage twins and housework, so can a responsible maid. You just need a little luck to find her. And if your current maid cannot handle it, that is sad, but you will have to let her go.

Depends a little bit on what kind of girl she us. Girlie girl, Tom boy? I did this with my 10 year old niece. Took her to London, but that's a no go with the Olympics this summer. Any town would do the trick I guess. Rome, Beirut, Amsterdam. The thought of some grown-up "me time" with mummy will be exiting in itself.Have lunch, dinner, shop, see a movie. I really think it is more about the time spent together and the "where" is less important. You two will have sooo much fun!

If you think it is difficult to discuss, couldn't you just try and avoid her this summer? You'll have tons of people you have to meet, so don't initiate a get together, and if she calls or tries to meet up, find excuses. She will either confront you, and you can say what's on your mind, or go along and the "friendship" will fade away.

I'm all for a stricter dress code. I am not a Muslim, but more then once I am embarrassed by the way some ladies (?) think they should dress in public. This is a Muslim country after all, so we have to respect that and dress accordingly. By no means we should all be wearing niqaab, but the least we can do is cover our shoulders and wear knee long skirts and trousers!

Hi Xiana, I was thinking of you the other day. Hope you are well and that you are settling into your new you and life? With respect to the bunions, you've had pkenty of helpful suggestions from the other ladies. I really doubt that wearing high heals (other then on special occasions) would be a very good idea. They will hurt, no matter how wide your shoes will be.
