If you go back you will find many recommendations for good nurseries. Honestly though you can’t go wrong with Kids island. They are great and I have recommended them many times. One of those hidden gems.

Yes, a number have closed down since December and I agree, it is a worry. There is no real way of knowing although sometimes the indicators are there. Low number of children, obvious lack of resources, run down premises, are just a few. Working in the educational sector, we have heard that the Ministry is no longer issuing new licenses. I definitely agree that it is worrying for parents seeking to put their little ones in nursery. I would say opt for the better established ones that have not changed ownership. They have been there and survived for a reason. Kid's Island is a prime example. I have recommended it many, many times and everyone is extremely happy. Absolutely lovely nursery.

I think that this is not necessarily a Dubai thing but probably due to circumstances and the current climate. We are lucky enough to have institutions both nurseries and schools that have been here for years and years. I think that well established nurseries have a proven track record and are there for a reason.

Use your shop and ship address in the shipping details and not billing as the payment won't go through. If you aren't sure what the SNS address is, there is a tab on your SNS account on the website with all your international addresses. You will be given a number that is specific to your account which will look like DXB 123123 and this needs to be included in the address, otherwise they can't allocate the parcel to you. For example the NY address wil be primus9 DXB 123123, street addy, suburb, NY postcode. If you are using a UAE credit card your billing address is the one registered to the card. Essentially you have two different addresses on the Amazon account, one shipping and one billing. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Will give it a try.

For the ones that still don't ship to the UAE, there's always Shop and Ship too! I actually still use Shop and Ship instead of sending directly, as the Shop and Ship guy knows where my house is :) Hi delta. I have just created shop and ship account but still don't quite get how to apply the account during check out from Amazon.com. Hope you can help

Ok,I found the owners through Dubizzle. apparently she has never been outside so it cannot be your neighbours cat :(...but please send me the picture anyway. Long story short. The guy who claims this cat does not seem in a rush to pick her up :(...he was busy last night, this morning his app did not work and I am still waiting for him to show up for his 6:15 pick up time. I will not answer the door after 9....so.. she might just be able to go to a new home tomorrow. She is a beautiful girl. 1.5 hrs not spayed (which I will do before she is rehomed if necessary) primus.9 please send me a picture to see if it actually your neighbours just in case. Went to my neighbors and their cat is back home so yes the cat you have is not theirs. I do hope it goes to a good home.

Hi, I live in Al Bada'a which is next to satwa and this cat belongs to my neighbor. I don't think they keep very close tabs on her because she roams throughout the neighborhood and has even been to our house several times. I have a photograph of her on my phone. She is a lovely cat and I am pretty sure it's her. Let me know and I will send you my number so that I can notify the neighbors or alternatively I can arrange to have her picked up. Thank you for the post.

Hayu, there are loads of posts on this forum regarding nurseries with feedback on Kid's island and Jumeirah International. I have had personal experience with Kid's island with my little one and cannot say enough about the cleanliness, organisation, friendliness and overall quality. I have referred the nursery to many of my friends who are all happy as well. Go with your gut instinct and you should come to the right decision for your family. Best of luck!

Ladies, as much as I understand and appreciate why you wouldn't want to spoil these treasures by revealing them publicly, I hope you can offer some tips. I am having a host of nieces and nephews as well as my own children visiting us at Christmas. Most of them are still unemployed or just starting careers. I really would like to make this a memorable visit for them, so would appreciate any tips about these secret affordable gems. If you could email (grecamomathotmaildotcom) some info, I promise not to spread the word :) Thanks, any help would be appreciated

There is a programme called "Baby Arabia". They are very much geared toward introducing Arabic to young children through songs, actions, games, etc. The lady that runs the programme is very passionate about teaching Arabic in a non-traditional way that is appealing t youngsters. I would google them and see what options are available.

I know that the managers of the majority of the villas in Al Bada'a are Mazaya Management located in Mazaya centre on Sheikh Zayed Road. Number is :04 3432016 (I believe). I have recently moved into a villa there and these are the people that are managing these properties. If I am not mistaken, I think one or two might be available now. Call this number and ask to speak to Audrey in leasing. Best of luck. It is a great are to live in and very, very conveniently located. We are very happy here!

I also have heard wonderful things about all the nurseries mentioned below. I am not sure if Kidville is a nursery as such. It is best to go and see for yourself in regards to curriculum, etc. Have you contacted Kid's Island? I have had personal experience with them. Absolutely lovely nursery, and they definitely know what they are doing. They are also quite well established. I think all nurseries are similar in some ways, but also quite different in others. The environment and structure should meet your family's needs. It also has to have a personal component/ warmth as well, as it is your child's first school experience. Best of luck :)

How do you know that Greece hasn't started implementing austerity measures? Do you really think that an increase by 40% in suicide rates is because Greeks can't afford to lounge around anymore? Shall we ask pensioners whose pensions have been cut by 1/3, or middle class salary earners whose salaries have been slashed? What about normal, working class citizens who are homeless and are being fed by the church soup kitchens? What about new daily taxes that people are asked to pay....and I mean daily. There are people who are living on 400 Euros a month, and I mean people who are university educated. There is an unemployment rate of over 50% in young people under 24 and an official overall unemployment rate of 25%. Yes, Greece is paying for its past mistakes, and so they should- but these mistakes are no different than the corruption found in Spain, Italy and Portugal.Oh, and by the way, two of the largest scandals that have caused waves in Greece lately is one involving Greek officials and the German Company Siemans and lately a 8billion Euro kickback received by a Greek official some decades ago by a German arms manufacturer who sold off obsolete and faulty weaponry to Greece. Yes, there is corruption in Greece, but they are definitely not the only ones in Europe or anywhere else for that matter. And not everyone gets a pension at 50. This stereotype that Greeks don't work is absurd! The question is why Greece? Could it be because of its gas and petroleum reserves in the Aegean?

Did you find it primus.9?? I'm heading over this afternoon to have a look. As for the recipe, waiting for my mum to give it to me! LOL But I'm guessing it's probably similar to yours as I know some people do add mastika to the one my mum does but we don't. Are you Turkish by any chance?? No, plans changed, but hope I can pop round may be tomorrow. Actually I am of greek decent but Tsoureki is common to both our cultures. I believe a similar bread is baked by Jewish people. My daughter always says that the smell of the house during Easter when the bread is baking is part of her most treasured memories. Funny how food can be so emotive. Yep I guess the recipe must be the same. I get my masticha from Greece because it's quality is so much better than anything I can find here, but along with that and the mahlepi I add zest of orange as well and butter, butter, butter. Fabulous!

Back home we call it Mahlepi. Yes, and I too want to make my Easter bread. I also add mastich-mistika in arabic I think. What's your recipe? I am off to Lulu's. Thanks a million :))))

Although being "eco" is definitely a good thing as it indicates that the nursery adheres to certain principles, you should nevertheless make sure that this is not a selling gimmick at the expense of,let say, teacher turnover, class size, teacher qualification, etc-all things that are very important. Have you tried better established nurseries like Kid's Island or Little land. Both are very well established and quite popular for a reason.Trust your gut instinct. Regardless of what they say, it should feel right for you. Best of luck and hope you find the right one for you.

My daughter and husband would pick up every single thing that was circulating in Dubai. Doctors were doing a quick fix by prescribing one antibiotic after another. Finally, switched my daughter's doctor and the new one suggested probiotics. Absolutely fabulous. It has definitely made a huge difference to my daughter's health as she is not getting sick as often. DH has only recently started taking them, and has already felt the difference despite his initial skepticism. These can be found in pharmacies. Some need to be refrigerated while others don't. Hope this helps :)

Hi Emmess, Sorry to hear you are going through challenges at the moment. For your situation I would definitely make an appointment to see Dr. Houriya Kazim at Wellwoman clinic. It is above Allied Diagnostic centre on Diyafa street (I think that has now been changed to 2nd December street). She is,as far as I know, one of the leading breast specialists in Dubai. For your husband, I would thoroughly recommend Dr. Byron Kalliatakis at City Hospital. He is a south African Cardiologist with tremendous experience and a very approachable manner. I cannot recommend both doctors highly enough. Have had personal experience and know others who have been very happy as well. Best of luck and I hope it all works out well in the end.

These look great, but the recipes are in Arabic! Anyone know if these are available in English. I would say that the Iranians probably make the best rice in the world. the cuisine is fabulous! And I agree about Danial in Mazaya. All their salads have been dressed with bottled lemon juice- the one that contains preservatives-so there is a strong under taste. I have an Iranian friend who makes the most amazing rice- I think they make it for weddings-it contains barberries, orange peel, pistachios and I don't know what else- but is incredible visually and the taste is out of this world. Well done to all the Iranians out there! For SM and everyone else Iranian rice http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.164487840258151.40271.154292544611014&type=3 Looks good. There are nurseries that do FS1. There are also nurseries that do FS2, although most of the ones that do don't call it FS2 clearly-they often call it some other name to hide the fact that it is illegal. Only schools are permitted to do FS2.

No, not all nurseries are "cold" as you describe. As long as she is happy, I guess that this is the important thing. Her crying is due to the emotion of leaving you and not necessarily because she is unhappy at school. Still, I can understand that it would make you feel more at ease if the staff were more demonstrative. I would speak openly with her teacher and tell her how you feel. Hope it works out!

Hi Steth, i went to church at Easter and most of the mass was in Arabic. There was some greek spoken during the gospels and some of the hymns. The priest is Syrian who speaks some Greek as he studied in Thessaloniki. I am currently in Paros and have to say that I am always left breathless and the beauty of the islands and their beaches....the beach we went to yesterday had turquoise water like you see in posters...only its real. Fabulous!!!

I would suggest taking some white sliced bread, stale would be best, but if you ave fresh, just let 4-5 slices stand on a plate uncovered until they become a little dry. Then trim the crusts, pop into a food processor and whiz until they look like coarse breadcrumbs. Put these in a bowl and add a little milk or water and stir until they become a little mushy. Add to your minced meat, with some chopped parsely, a pinch of oregano, 1 lightly beaten egg, and a little olive oil and knead the mixture. The bread always makes meatballs tender. Hope this helps

Kid's Island is an amazing nursery. Have no idea about New Safa, but I know Kid's Island well as my little one used to attend. Wonderful standards and the ladies there are very approachable and supportive. I think that your first school experience is extremely important, and so you need to feel comfortable and secure. Each nursery is different, and I guess the best way to chose a nursery is to go by the vibes you pick up when visiting. Trust your instincts.

Hi Georgaky, I am also a greek/australian, and although I am not interested in tutoring I can give you some info about the school situation here. At present, there are 2 schools running concurrently. One of them is run at Ductac on Saturdays. My daughter used to go there last year and there were definitely children of different backgrounds and levels. Most children were not native speakers of Greek as they were, like yourself, greeks from abroad. Some children knew very little if any greek at all. Teachers were teaching Greek as a second language. I would be happy to give you the contact number and name of the person who is coordinating the classes. Hope this has helped!
