Was in Karama the other day and noticed the "New" Sind Punjab - is that the same place as you're talking about, TOLB?

We never had trick or treating in my neck of the woods, but "Penny for the Guy" and a huge bonfire and fireworks and baked potatoes and sausages on November 5th, for Guy Fawkes (Bonfire Night). On a different note, only in Jumeirah do you see little trick or treaters in disguise accompanied by maids in uniform..

I don't think pacifiers affect the jawline. They may affect the teeth, but only the milk ones. I am not a doctor and could be completely wrong, but remember being told by paediatrician before daughter had any teeth (daughter never used a dummy) that she would eventually have to have braces as her jaw wouldn't be big enough for her teeth - sure enough, daughter had to have braces when she was 15 to make room for and straighten out her front teeth.

A gynae here has advised taking the pill continuously for a long time to avoid painful periods. She says it does no harm to the body and in fact, naturally, women are not designed to have 12 periods a year, as before "Modern Times", women would not be menstruating for at least 9 months a year..

The Friday brunch at Movenpick Ibn Battuta Mistral restaurant is family friendly, I bet the Christmas one would be good. Otherwise, a couple more old threads: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=168389 http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=190913

Hi, welcome to Dubai :) Sorry, I'm not really sure about the fee or security bond, I seem to remember we only paid the agency fee after the contract had been signed, as part of the whole transaction. If you do pay it now, I would suggest you make sure you have documentation to say it is refundable in the event of the transaction not completing for any reason. Also, as people affected by the MF scam have learned the hard way, before you sign for any property, make sure the landlord has paid the community service charges up to date and that he will continue to pay them; that you have a copy of the title deeds, the landlord's passport and residence visa if applicable (I think) and that the contract will be registered with Ejari (the agent or LL should do this on line for you, otherwise you will have to take it to RERA yourself to register it). Also, that the landlord has a maintenance team or a maintenance contract in place or that he will pay for a maintenance contract if you have to organize it yourself. There may be more, either search here for title deeds or hope someone more knowledgeable will be along soon to help you. ETA: Oh, and remember, most agents just fade out of the picture once they've got their commission, so in case of any problems when you can't get the agency to help, make sure you have all the details possible of your LL so you are able to contact them direct if necessary. edited by simpleasabc on 31/10/2012

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's miscarriage. Every body is different. It depends on the circumstances and how far along the pregnancy was as to how long you need to rest up after it. Some miscarriages are just like a really bad period whereas with others, you actually go into labour and for some you have an operation. She needs to talk to her doctor. In any case, unless there is something else going on, it is usually the psychological effects which take a long time to heal, not the physical ones, so make sure she finds someone to talk to about this, apart from her partner. There may be some informal groups here for people who have had miscarriages, I'm not sure. Also, people forget that it can be just as devastating for the father, even though he has no physical suffering. Good luck helping her.

Thanks for the explanation, March. Are UK SATS relatively new, then (brought in during the last 20 years or so)?

That sounds right, Sam and Louise, I've just been on the US site and told I'm currently registered to the UK, and to go and change my address if I want to purchase from the US site. I use my S&S accounts and change them if I want to buy something from the other site.

Whooops, sorry, didn't read your original post properly. I've never understood about registering and reregistering Kindles, but are they not registered to the country from which they were purchased? What is it that you are trying to do that you need to be registered in the UK? (I've no idea what I'm talking about, just trying to help if I can..)

The first is American and it is necessary to have a good score to apply for American universities whereas the second is British and is taken by 10 and 11 year olds to get them into grammar schools - have a feeling the 11+ has been completely phased out, though.

Have you tried going in to "Manage My Kindle" in Amazon.com where under "Your Kindle Account" on the left hand side of the page, there is a heading "Country Settings", from where you can change your country? That's what happens in Amazon.co.uk, would think it was the same in .com?

Up till last Saturday, I would have recommended Jamie's Italian whole-heartedly, but they have changed their menu so it is shorter and even more expensive than before. When we went the other day, we waited 15 mins before someone came to tell us we'd have to wait for the wine we'd ordered because it was difficult to access and apparently the coke was also in the same place as that didn't arrive, either. Having found it difficult to choose a dish which appealed on the menu, I asked for scallops, only to be told they were no longer available. We walked out and went to the Belgian Cafe in the Crowne Plaza. Sat outside with a lovely Creek view :)

Sorry, Aryanwynn, I'm no tutor in Maths or the SATs, just speaking from experience with my daughter, who followed a course in Knowledge Village and did her SATs for the first time earlier in the year. According to the people she knows here, it is the norm to sit SATs three times and the first time is considered a sort of practice run and not a real reflection of the child's capabilities.

Go for a wander onto the Springs road and flag a gas supplier down - there are usually still plenty around at this time of night, I find. I was going to suggest Al Fahidi, too as they normally come immediately - must be a busy evening..

Perhaps you should get him a Maths tutor to help him in the specific areas where he's struggling and then he can just practice past papers over and over again to get the hang of the SAT format? ETA: Snap, Laura C :) edited by simpleasabc on 29/10/2012

We often go to the Westin Blue Orange buffet in the evening (using Entertainer vouchers!) and like the variety of food there and also being able to sit outside when the weather permits :) Not been in the daytime, though.

Why not try a lobby coffee lounge at one of the hotels along the sea-front? Or if you can face sitting outside, the view is lovely from the Al Qasr lounge and you'd probably be able to make up your own morning tea from their selection of snacks and cakes: https://www.jumeirah.com/Hotels--Resorts/Destinazioni/Dubai/Madinat-Jumeirah/Restaurants--Nightlife/Bars-and-Nightlife/Al-Fayrooz-Lounge/ Otherwise, go to one of the hotels (Westin is in a lovely setting, I think) for the buffet breakfast and linger past 11am :)

That's just silly, Maskhara - there's enough rubbish in sewage systems without adding unknown types of pharmaceuticals to the mix. This is just one example: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2012/jun/02/water-system-toxic-contraceptive-pill

That'd be brunch, then :) Is it for lunch or dinner? Loads of places do Friday brunch, some do Saturday brunch as well. In the evenings, there are a few places which do all inclusive buffets - the Rotana chain is always quoted on here for that, and I think the Meridien Terrace does it too.

I don't know anything about that particular school, but just want to make sure you realize that quite a few schools here have taken the name of a prestigious public school in England but actually have actually nothing at all in common with their namesake. edited by simpleasabc on 25/10/2012 edited by simpleasabc on 25/10/2012 but I think that Mr VArkey did get slightly affiliated with them, to some degree. When we lived in Geneva, we couldn't set up an Ebay account as they would only talk to us in German so we couldn't fill the forms in - I think they wanted a Swiss cc, which we had, but there was no option to select any other language than German when signing up. Useless.

Has anyone taken progesterone when pregnant and noticed anything amiss when they've stopped taking it or reduced the amount they are taking? I've been taking progesterone for the past 16 weeks due to a high risk pregnancy. The amount I'm taking has been reduced this week and I'm an emotional train wreck. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? And if so does it get better? Of course it's possible that the progesterone has nothing to do with it and[b'> it's down to an awful visit from the in laws and my husband behaving like a tool.[/b'> That'd do it..
