Can you please tell me how this works. Is there a Dubai Amazon or can you arrange delivery to Dubai via Amazon UK? I didn't realise that I could order on Amazon and get delivery to Dubai, so I would like to know how to do this. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. I did try to research and find good vets that would do house calls before but didn't get very far. I suppose I understand because she only needs jabs...it isn't an emergency. Thanks for advice on where I can find the pets version of the rescue remedy and I will also try the other options too. Thank you for the help.

My cat is the proverbial scaredy cat and gets so stressed going to the vets that she is usually ill for two weeks after. I have been googling solutions on the Internet and it seems that bachs rescue remedy is used by a lot of people. I gather there is even a pet version. Has anyone used this? Did they find it any good? Are there any risks? Does anyone know if the pet version is available anywhere in Dubai and if not, would the human version be ok? All help and advice greatly appreciated.

Your post has reminded me of all the furbabies I have lost....all of whom made my life better and I can only hope that I made theirs better too. Sending you a big cyber hug, Nomad.....wherever you may be! Your next needy furbaby is out there somewhere waiting for a place in your home and in your heart.

So so sorry to hear your news, Nomad. I know exactly how you feel and all you can do is take some comfort from the many years you both gave each other love and companionship. It is always so hard to say goodbye to those we love, and only other animal lovers can understand the sorrow and emptiness you feel right now. I know you (and others on this forum) have often warmed my heart and rekindled my sometimes fading faith in humanity, by your many kind acts towards animals and I know that kindness will mean that you will never forget the ones you lose, but will also mean that you will find space in your heart for another lost and lonely fur baby. If only the rest of humanity could share the same kindness and compassion to all living things.

I'm so sorry SueB that I can't help by offering a foster home right now as I am away. I know how difficult these situations are and I wish you all the luck I can with finding these cats a home. I know that you and others on this forum do a fantastic job trying to help all the stray cats.

I was desperate for a dress for a specific function and after giving up on the shops and tailors in Dubai I hesitantly tried this site as a last resort. Unfortunately, I would have to say that based on my own experience, I would suggest you are very careful. For me it turned out to be a big mistake. You may be luckier. edited by snowflake on 06/09/2014

Bless you and the men involved for trying to help this little family. To be honest, although a loving home would be preferable, as they already have some guardian angels in the shape of you and these men......as long as they are neutered, fed and kept an eye on, their chance of a happy life will be better than most street cats who don't get that level of protection and care. It is going to be difficult to find them a 'proper' home, but it sounds as if they are already loved, so could they not stay as your adopted work/office cats?

Thanks everyone for all the useful suggestions. I chased up on a few charities, including some mentioned, and (understandably) as much as they would like to take on stuff to sell, most of them couldn't collect or store the stuff. I have found a worthy home for the stuff, but for future reference, it would be nice if this site kept a reference (in its charity pages) of which charities (including animal charities) would be able to collect and store bigger items. I do understand, though, that most of these places work out of limited spaces (often their homes) and they simply don't have the space or facilities for things. Just wanted to give my stuff to a good home rather than make a few dirhams on it. Although, that idea of selling the stuff on Dubizzle and then giving the charity the money, seems like a good suggestion.

Hi Pandabear......apologies if you have already thought of everything I am about to suggest.....but.....please.... Contact the various animal charities eg feline friends / Bin Kitty / Friends of Animals Contact vets (especially the one at the Polo club near the Ranches) in case he has been taken there Speak to ( possibly offer a reward ) to maids, gardener and security guards Make a poster with his photo and hand it out to nearby villas etc.....plus put it on le marche notice board and / or Spinneys Contact Dubai municipality. I don't know if he has a micro chip...and they re not supposed to pick up cats who do.....but!!! Someone told me it is best to go there rather than rely on a phone call. Someone else told me that Dubai municipality aren't allowed to pick up strays in a private development (don't know if that is true tbh) and Emaar use private companies..... so it might be worth asking Emaar if they called in any private pest control (before anyone shouts at me....no, I don't regard cats as pests) to see if he was picked up by them. I wouldn't waste any time on this last issue. Go out calling him at night when there is less noise and you may hear him.....or he may hear you! Remember he may be quite near...just possibly hurt or hiding. I really hope you find him. Also please attach a photo to this thread (if you know how) so fellow Ranchers can see it and keep an eye out for him.

Personally, I would donate it to one of the many charities that would be happy to have the stuff. I know that feline friends have regular sales of stuff that has been donated and I'm sure that other animal charities eg Bin kitty Collective, K9, etc would probably welcome the stuff too. You may find the contact details of these and others on this site. There are no doubt other animal charities that would want your things to sell too. I'm not too sure about any specific charities that are not animal associated, but other people may have some suggestions.

Ha ha.....I just re read the posts and it dawned on me that I had probably got the wrong price. Wild you mind giving me some idea of price.....if its not too cheeky. I'm reluctant to send my sister to any of the tailors that I have ever used (too many disasters lol) but just don't want to send her to someone good who may be too pricey for her.

Thank you DesertRose83. My sister is keen to get a nice evening dress copied when she comes out on holiday and I know of course that it depends on the dress style, but I wanted an idea of price for her. I also don't know of any good tailors, so your thread was great timing. The dress you had done seems very reasonable. So thanks for the info. edited by snowflake on 22/04/2014

Can I ask why you have locked her in the garage? Poor thing will be disorientated enough. I assume you don't intend to leave her locked in there as you are obviously fond of her. Please let her have the run of the house with your smells and familiar furniture, etc. I know it will be tricky as you really do need to keep her inside for quite a few weeks, but for her sake, please do it. At least in the house she will have familiar things and she can get used to her surroundings with the love, attention, security and reassurance of her adoptive family. I know she may cry to go out, but she will calm down a bit after a while (I know I've been through it) plus it will help if she can be distracted by looking out through the windows. I don't know what advice to give you about the other cat.....maybe some more experienced cat experts can help you. Or you could try to contact one of the cat charities for advice. Either way, don't let her out for a while or you run the risk of losing her again or of her getting run over, etc on her journey back to her old house.

Does she have a micro chip? How friendly is she? What's her name and will she come if she is called by strangers? I'm just asking in case anyone sees her......if she is friendly and comes to you when she is called, then people in the area can keep a lookout and possibly stand a chance of picking her up if they see her. Try to post a link to a photo on this thread as it will help people to identify her. I'm not technical enough to be able to tell you how to do that, but I'm sure others will help you. And don't forget to contact vets, especially the one at the polo club near the Ranches, as she may have been picked up and taken there.

I really hope she is found. I know I may be telling you things you already know, but please consider putting an advert up in le Marche ( Dhs 15 for a week I think), Spinneys (free for three days as this is a community announcement). You should also consider letting the gardeners and maids in the area know and Mirador security and it is also worth making some posters with a photo and handing them around to people in the villas in the area. You should also contact the various cat charities to see if she has been handed in (plus they will give you very good advice) and municipality (in case she has been picked up, in which case she will be euthanised after a few days I believe). Finally, you could go around on walkabouts at night when there is less noise and traffic....calling her name with a tin of food. She could be laying low somewhere, frightened and you are more likely to hear her in the evening.....although, it could be argued, you could be more likely to see her in the daytime. Good luck, I really hope you find her. Please keep us posted. By the way.....you also need to go back to the area you moved from, as she may have tried to travel back there and find her original home. edited by snowflake on 19/04/2014

I totally agree with Geordie expat.......give her a break! Why go out of your way to stress her out and scare her even more when all she is trying to do is protect her babies. You can't blame her for that. Her job is going to be difficult enough as it is. Whether you are a cat lover or not, don't inflict unnecessary fear in any animal, especially one that is just trying to be a good mother. Just change your route for a while, or if your dog is small, hold it in your arms for that particular section.

I'm so glad you took the decision to check out the situation rather than get the cat removed and killed. Can you imagine what would have happened to those kittens on the street without their mum to protect and feed them. All mothers (of whichever species) will rightly be very protective of their babies and aggressive towards any perceived threats. I know your dog was no doubt an innocent bystander, but hopefully you can at least understand why she reacted as she did. Being a mum is a difficult enough job without the added stresses and threats of living rough on the streets.

Thanks so much SueB.....I did manage to get hold of someone there and have tried to send photos to them, but not sure if I have been successful (limited technical skills) so I may try to send them to you too if that's ok and then if you see that the photos are already there on their facebook page then you don't have to add them. Just to update.....she doesn't have a micro chip and I have been around loads of villas near where I found her, but no joy......so if anyone is looking for an absolutely adorable, very cuddly and extremely affectionate ball of Persian fur......please contact me. Even the nurse at the vets commented on how gorgeous and affectionate she is.......she deserves a good home.

Hi MIf14. I haven't bought either of them. I want to, but I've never seen them here. Have you seen them on sale here? If so, would you mind sharing where. All I know from my limited research is that nutri bullet was supposed to be better than magic bullet which I believe was the first model (my info may not be correct). If they do what they say, then I think it would be a great, easy way to get all your vitamins etc without the waste of a juicer.

Only saw this last night and I was appalled! I can't thank you and your husband enough (or the charities involved) Ruth for stepping in and not only directly helping that one poor cat, but also being prepared to take it further by writing to head office to ensure that other cats don't suffer the same inhumane fate. I am afraid that once the hoo ha over this recent incident has died down, the hotel may once again revert to its old ways, so I personally feel, like you, that a direct appeal to the head office in America (I presume) is the only way to get them to change their ways and instigate a more ethical, socially responsible and humane way of dealing with strays. I'm sure that if this were made public in the States, it wouldn't do the Hilton brand any favours. If you feel that additional letters of response to the head office will help, please say so and I'm sure that many people will want to help by adding their voice. It may only start with one animal, but slowly by intervening and trying to do the right thing, we can all make a difference to ensure that humans reassess their values (or lack of) and learn to treat all animals with respect. I for one will be calling the hotel and adding my voice, but I want to be confident that they will ensure that they implement a humane policy that they adhere to. Don't they also know that a few respected and neutered stray cats on their premises will help with pest control, I just hope this attracts the attention of the local media and that ALL hotels revise their policies and instigate a more humane system with the advice of local charities.

I felt I had to add my bit to this discussion. Whilst I understand the logic behind a parent's desire to let their children catch chicken pox while they are young, what a lot of people don't know is that there are huge risks to pregnant women if they catch the virus. I know this from personal experience. ....And unfortunately whilst you may think it's desirable for your child to catch or share the virus, you also have to consider the many pregnant mothers who may end up being affected too. I am amazed at how few people realise the risks to the unborn baby if a mum contracts chicken pox. I'm not a Dr, but as I said...personal experience has taught me this and whilst the severity of the risks may depend on the trimester of the pregnancy, it is still something that all parents should be aware of. It's one thing to expose your child to the virus to minimise problems of catching it as an adult, it's a totally different thing to possibly pass it on to the many pregnant mums out there.

Thank you everyone for your helpful replies. I will pass on all the info to her and hope we find the right one for her. I know that some clinics advertise am open MRI and it isn't, it's still a tunnel but slightly wider (no good for her). The one that Amelia mentioned might be that type. Can't find allied diagnostics in Sharjah on Internet, only Dubai one, which isn't open. We were told that the Open MRI clinic is only for spinal issues, but we will check. The one in medcare sounds a possibility....so BIG THANKS again to all you kind people for replying with suggestions.

Don't want to put mine through the stress of travelling in the hold as I doubt they will survive and that would be awful. They are older and freak out at the slightest sound......and you can forget taking them to the vets!!!! Not joking! Do cruise ships allow you to take your pet.?

That is really sad news for Blue. Just a thought, but did your husband stroke / touch Blue? I'm only asking because (even though I love cats) I am also actually allergic to them. I have two cats and I react very badly to the short haired one, but have no problems with my other longer hared cat. The solution has been......to leave the cuddles / stroking etc of the short haired cat to the rest of the family. I talk to her, but avoid touching her and if I do, I wash my hands immediately. This has worked for me for 8 years now. Just wondered if you could still try to keep Blue and see if it works with no direct contact from your hubby.

That is such fantastic news Ozfamily! I am so pleased. Bless you for giving him a home (& to all those who have worked at trying to get him a home....Assisi, etc). I wish you all the best trying to settle him into his new family. Hope you manage to get them both to accept eachother. Don't know much about dogs (wish I did) but I know it took quite a while (several weeks) with a very 'softly softly' approach to get my older cat to accept the younger 'intruder'. They accept eachother now but still have their occasional moments. Your dog may be very different. Hope they grow to love eachother. Great to hear a good news story.....cheers me up.

Bump! Feel so sorry for this little guy. Would love to have him, but it would be a problem for my own cats. Really, really hoping that someone has room in their heart and home for him. Or is there any chance that the vets would keep him just a bit longer until after the summer holidays (mid September). It is very, very quiet in Dubai this summer and when people start to come back and new people arrive, there might be a chance for him. Would donations towards his upkeep help persuade them to keep him a bit longer?
