Technically there is nothing in the law that states it is illegal. However it's not legal for a licensed doula or nurse to come to your house and assist you. It IS possible to find a midwife who will fly here and assist you from another country but that would be quite costly. There are women who have unplanned home births in that they didn't make it to the hospital. There isn't legal action taken against them, they are simply transported to the hospital. So technically no, not illegal, but nearly impossible to find/get support.

I don't know about freezone companies as they only go through immigration, but for all other companies they are required by law to provide 45 days paid maternity leave. However, you must be outside the probation period.

It's not likely with you currently being pregnant that any provider will cover you for less than 15k. If it's only you and not a company plan there will also be a 12 month waiting period to even qualify for maternity coverage. Meaning you have to have the policy for one year before they will cover any pregnancy related expenses.

Hi! I do prenatal yoga and prenatal pilates in 2 different places and really enjoy both. Yoga really sets my mind to the right positive wave and pilates gives a pretty good work out for all the muscles without putting too much stress on my body. Can you please advise on the name of these two places and the contact details?

I personally had a lactation and post natal massage through this and it helped me to have more milk. http://www.cucciku.com/post-pregnancy-massage-in-dubai/ They also do pregnancy massages. I've visited their website and I do not see pregnancy massage anywhere. Are you sure they provide this??

They ask you before you do the XRay for your medical if you are pregnant. I don't think however that they test for pregnancy. They test for infectious diseases only. Even if they did test for pregnancy they wouldn't be notifying your employer!! You've probably already learned this though ;)

I had my daughter with her 3 years ago. & did a last minute switch from Dr Elsa (at City) to Yamini because Dr Elsa while claiming to be pro natural had told me that at 42 weeks I would need to schedule a c-section (as my first was an emergency c secrion). The day I turned 40 weeks she told me that I needed to have a csection my baby isn't engaged blah blah. Long story short I ended up at Al Zahra with Dr Yamini as she seemed more pro natural, she offered to sweep my membranes (something I'd never heard of) and I decided to give it a shot.l...but my cervix was still too high. I ended up going into labor on my own two days later and while Al Zahra during the tour seemed to be sooo pronatural, Dr Yamini certainly is not (and as all OBs are surgeons I really no longer believe any of them are pro natural). During my labor she said something to one of the nurses and I asked her what she said and she told me "this is medical terminology you wouldn't understand." If I wasn't in active labor I would have walked out of the hospital! I managed to get to 9 cm after about 13 hours of labor (it took one hour to get from 8 to 9cm) only to then be told by Dr Yamini that my baby's heartbeat is too low and we "don't have an hour to wait for you to get to 10cm". Once she said that my body literally gave up, however it took well over one hour for them to prep me for the csection with the nurses all shouting "don't push don't push" If you're looking for a natural delivery i don't know what your options are as I feel all obs just want to cut. If there's a hospital here that just let the nurses handle it until the patient is 10cm or only call the dr when there is a problem then that's the hospital I'd choose. I however didn't feel that Dr Yamini was open enough during my labor with keeping me informed nor did I appreciate her attitude. That's my two cents.

I've gone to the Sharjah Center I'd have to look up the name of it but it's the one that doesn't take appointments, it's all walk in. It was 500dhs and they put I think about 10 cups. No du'aa or prayer was done though and I was sitting up straight the entire time. The glass cups are all one time use so 500dhs is very reasonable I feel.

On an unlimited contract either party can terminate with 30 days notice. The employer must either give 30 days notice or, if it's immediate they must pay the 30 days notice period. Outside of that the only thing that remains is any accrued annual leave not taken and gratuity calculated based on total time worked in the company. When an employee resigns there is nothing a company can do so I imagine the other way around the employee can only go look for another job and make sure everything that's due is given. If it's not then under NO circumstances should the cancellation papers be signed. He/she is entitled to receive ALL that is due BEFORE signing cancellation.

Depends on your passport. If you don't hold a passport that the UAE gives visa on arrival to then you will have to apply for a tourist visa before you can come back into the country. There is nothing that would prevent you from re applying (if there's no immigration ban).

I'm a 34 yr old American who was born Muslim (alhamdulillah) and like the other users have stated you cannot force a child to do anything without them hating it or rebelling later on. The Prophet's (SAW) example was one of gentleness, especially with children. When I was growing up I remember trying to fast the whole day to impress my parents, I can't imagine them trying to force it upon us! My daughter will be 8 next month and as I don't want to push her too much she wakes up, eats breakfast, and fasts from there forward. Many of the days she's ready to break her fast by 5pm and I try to encourage her as much as possible without her getting upset and allow her to break her fast usually by 6pm or 6:30pm, as this is practice. Its not mandatory to fast until you reach puberty. If they aren't being pushed then its something that, with practice they will want to get better and better at and naturally they will ease into fasting the entire day. As girls are reaching puberty earlier and earlier these days I would suggest you try to encourage her to make her five daily prayers on time. If she's already waking up for fajr it won't be too difficult to get up 30 minutes prior to fajr to eat. But if she isn't, honestly I wouldn't focus on the fasting, but on the prayer. Whereabout in Dubai are you? I would also suggest trying to find some Muslim female friends the same age and perhaps she will begin to want to fast with their support? Then her religion (or choice of religion rather) one day will be less dependent upon the way her father treats her :-/

Hello! Did anyone manage to find a good holistic dentist in Dubai? I have just been to DR Joy for an extraction and they refuse to do anything unless I take an antibiotic which I am very against! Any advice is appreciated! :) I've actually been medicating myself in order to avoid a dentist :-o But I think im to my wits end and will try this Dr. Madhu....trying my best to avoid any root canals! Why do you have to take antibiotics before an extraction? When you ask why, what do they say?

Hi, Congratulations on your pregnancy! I delivered my first one with Dr Elsa at city and highly recommend her. Ummzarinah - I'm sorry that you've had to move hospitals at the last moment also surprised about your experience with Dr Elsa. I had a totally opposite experience, she was very patient and never once pushed thru appts also she was the one who was **** bent upon me going for a natural delivery though I was ok with a c sec and finally she gave me the best birth. My baby suddenly was in a very eccentric position when I went into labour and any other dr wud have immediately chopped me but Dr Elsa brought the baby into right position and finally I had a normal delivery with just 14 mins of pushing. Thanks CG9....its great you had such a good experience. Perhaps if I'd have simply refused the c-section and went there to have my baby when I did go into labour naturally things would have been different...who knows. Its something that hurt me alot as my firstborn was born via c-section due to preeclampsia and interventions from being induced....maybe she's not very VBAC friendly, most doctors aren't. I just really felt betrayed honestly. This time around I'm either going with Dr. Raj at American (rave rave reviews) registering at a government hospital, or simply going back home as there are TONS more options. Ideally I'd rather be at a birthing center so I'm really really leaning towards going back home. So I'm 8 weeks and I swear I can feel the baby moving, am I going nutso? I know you can feel the baby earlier when you've had more than 1 but 8 weeks...is that even possible?????

Hi hotdiggity, congratulations on your pregnancy! Is this your first? I too am about 7 weeks pregnant (due date November 8th) :-o There are ALOT of great doctor recommendations on this site, depending on the type of experience you'd like to have and if you have a specific hospital in mind. I've not been to Medcare so I dont have any advice there. I had my second born here in Dubai at al Zahra hospital. It was brand new and extremely empty so I received top notch care. I was with Dr. Elsa at City until 40 weeks and then switched to Al Zahra. Dr. Elsa has rave reviews as being pro natural....I found her to be short and not very genuine....and in the end not very pro natural at all (hence me switching hospitals at 40 wks). The best advice I can give is try to find someone that fits well with you. While the reviews help, in the end it all boils down to the experiences YOU have with the doctor. Oh and as far as visiting the doctor if you have insurance I think they will see you from the beginning (Now) but if you're going with an antennatal package those start from 12 weeks onwards. I think as long as you feel fine outside of all day sickness (because the term morning sickness is a farce) and aren't having any problems 12 weeks is a good time to start seeing a doctor.

Hello all, My daughter, Ms. Aya Patrick was born September 14th at 4:31pm at Al Zahra Private Hospital. Alhamdulillah she was born healthy and is doing fine (besides the nightly crying/gas). The good news is that I walked an hour everyday and began doing the moves on the spinningbabies.com website and went into labor naturally (high five) on the morning of September 14th. The night before I had eaten some pizza and gotten extreeeeeme nausea which I read was a great sign and knew that meant that I would be going into labor soon. So at 5am my contractions started, they just felt like Braxton hicks at first but they weren't going away. As they got stronger I felt the urge/need to help them along and my friend suggested I have ***...which I really really really didn't want to do lol and neither did my husband. But I told him the baby was coming and that I'd be out of order for 6 weeks lol. So my plan was to have *** and then go walk for an hour as I'd been doing everyday since Dr. Elsa tried to schedule my csection. Literally 10 minutes after *** my contractions started getting worse and my mom wanted to take me in. I really wanted to wait as long as I could but my husband was getting on my nerves lol so we went in at around 10:30. When I got there I was 4 cm (super high five) and labored for 4 more hours and was at 8cm (and I let them break my water, which they tried to do at 4cm but I said heck no). An hour later I was at 9cm but the babies heart rate was going down with every contraction (it got as low as 50 :-o). So the doctor said that this was too dangerously low and that I needed to have an emergency c section as we could not wait another hour for me to get to 10. She tried to move my cervix during a contraction which she said would make the baby come right out or something but she could not and said that I had to do the section. I was heartbroken as I'd labored for 10 hours 100% naturally just to have another doctor tell me that I had to have a csection...but Alhamdulillah. I feel ALOT better about this csection than with my first and I actually do believe it was necessary given the circumstances. I DO think that doctors should have to learn about optimal fetal positioning and how to help mothers in labor get their babies into the right position. My baby wasn't coming down because her head was....deflexed I believe, I have the medical term written down but I KNOW that if I had a doctor/midwife who had the knowledge of optimal fetal positioning that she would have suggested different positions for me to get the baby in the position she needed to be in to come down. I've even revisited the spinningbabies website and read about the positions to use during labor to help the baby come down and out but unfortunately I wasn't well versed enough in any of them during my labor :-( It took over an hour for them to book the OR and get it ready and administer the spinal and finally be ready to cut....I just think if I had all that extra time with a specialist who was truly "pro natural" then my baby and I wouldn't have had to go through that. I think because I've had to go through 2 csections that my brain is now obsessed with natural birth since now that I know my body WILL go into labor naturally (something I should never have doubted in the first place). Our plan was always to have another one about a year later but now my brain is on overdrive thinking about trying in a year. I did not know that natural birth was a possibility after 2 csections and have read a TON of woman who've successfully had them. I do know that finding a doctor here in Dubai who is willing will be virtually impossible, though I read on a forum written about 2 years ago that Dr. Raj at American was willing with a former patient, assuming she went into labor naturally and there were no complications of course. So she's my starting point. I feel the need to secure a doctor NOW who knows what I want and who is willing to help get me there, even though we of course wont start trying until this time next year lol. I definitely do not plan on putting all my trust into the hands of any doctor and will do ALOT more to make sure my body is ready and that I'm doing everything for optimal fetal positioning (which is key to an easy labor)

Thank you Kenza and Slurp for your positive encouragement, it makes me feel so much better :-) After reading a couple of people's recent experiences at City Hospital and having the experience I did with their emergency care earlier in my pregnancy and now with Dr.Elsa I began searching for another hospital. Honestly I'm over the whole you have to find a really good doctor phase. I'm 40W+2 and the doctors aren't there while you're laboring, they're getting their little updates and coming in when its "necessary" to deliver the baby. I would have liked to have had a doctor who was encouraging me and informing me of things I could do and implement to help my baby engage and apparently help my posterior cervix to come forward but thanks to spinningbabies.com and reading ALOT of other posts about women in the same position as I am I believe I'm on the right track to maximizing my chances of a natural birth. So through this forum it seems that Al Zahra private hospital (which is waaaaay closer to my house than healthcare city) has some pretty good reviews. Yesterday I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Yamini and was able to get an appointment for today. As the hospital is new they still have that "the patient comes first" attitude and hopefully that will remain even as the hospital becomes more popular. I tried, to judge as harshly as I could and honestly I only found positive. As I said the hospital is new, so its quiet, and quite empty. Dr. Yamini (who was previously at Welcare) is also quiet but she has personality. I told her of my concerns and she listened, did a full ultrasound confirming my baby is doing excellently at this point and also suggested doing a sweep. I had no clue what a sweep was and was a bit scared of agreeing to something I hadn't read about but when she checked me she informed me that my cervix is posterior and that she could not even reach it to do a sweep if she wanted to. She recommended I walk at least an hour everyday and come back to her on Sunday to see if I'd progressed. She did recommend that I have a c-section after 10 days if I didn't begin to progress and I've NEVER been against that. I just need to know and feel that I've done everything in my power to have this baby naturally. Not to have some doctor compare my babies head and my cervix to two mis matching shapes (YES, Dr. Elsa did!) So after I saw Dr. Yamini, who was great with me and with my six year old daughter I had to take with me, they sent me to the labor and delivery ward to speak to Ms. Emma, who I assume to be the head mid-wife. She's an African lady from Zimbabwe who was soooo warm and kind, you can tell she is VERY experienced in childbirth (she previously was at American Hospital). I sat and talked with her for an hour and she went through the entire process with me, she explained to me how pro natural and hands off they prefer to be...they even have a labor and delivery room that they are prepping to be a birthing room, with a birthing tub and birthing balls and a birthing stool. Though the room is not yet finished she said that if I wanted to they would set the pool up in my room and allow me to labor in the pool (babies cant be born in the pool though) which I found to be EXTREMELY great of them as I believe the only other hospital that allows laboring in water is in Al Ain (I could be wrong). She also showed me how to use the birthing stool...which I found to be quite low and awkward but its nice to know that they are so encouraging of natural options. Overall I feel pretty great about my experience there. Now that Kenza has given me this extra information I feel compelled to try out Dr. George as well....though at this point I'm pretty sure I do not want to deliver at City. Al Zahra was so quiet and welcoming....not that they aren't at City...its just different though...more warm.

Reading all of these positive reviews about Al Zahra is seriously making me re-consider City Hospital. I am not happy with the care I've been receiving and I really do not want to set myself up for further disappointment. After my appointment today with Dr. Elsa I'd decided to have my baby at Latifah but I did not know that they do not take patients past 20 weeks. Honestly I've stayed at City to this point because I paid for their antenatal package. I'm currently 40 weeks and I just want to have a positive birthing experience (whether its natural or a c-section). I'm no longer hung up on who the doctor is as they spend the least amount of time with you during your labor anyway. I'm more concerned about having positive reassurance and being surrounded by staff who truly have what's best for me and my baby as their priority.

Hello All, Had my 40 week checkup today and I must report that I am extremely disappointed. Baby is still high and not engaged (-3) and Dr. Elsa wants me to schedule a C-Section. I must say that I have not been impressed by her at all. For all the positive reviews on how pro natural she supposedly is, I've not seen much of any pro natrual(ness) about her. She says that I am 'prolonging the inevitable, there's no need to be a hero' and 'why put yourself through the discomfort' The only discomfort I've complained about is the swelling in my feet and honestly I feel that she should be encouraging me positively and assuring me that the baby will come when she's ready. My eyes aren't closed to a c-section I just really feel she's being premature. Everything is based solely on the fact that the baby is not yet engaged but I've read tons and tons and tons online about how many babies do not engage until labor has begun and how thats not an indication of needing a c-section or needing to be induced. Dr. Elsa originally said that we would probably be looking at csection number two 10-14 days after my due date, but now for some reason all of that has changed. The baby is not showing any signs of distress, she's still moving around and active with a strong heartbeat and good fluid so why the big rush to push me towards a c-section????

Hi all, Due sept 8th and no baby yet. Doing exercises to help open my pelvis. A cousin just recommended today that I take castor oil to bring on labor and I was all ready to do it until I read this horror story online about an emergency csection being done because the woman's cervix wasn't ready to have a baby. While I'm not sure if that was actually the case or not I've had a csection and I just really don't want to have another. Dr Elsa says I can go 10 days over so I'm just trying to remain positive :-) Thanks Kenza for the note at the end about the delivery costs....I can't stand when a budget is wrong, I'm really quite **** about it lol. Congrats on the baby as well, what did you name her??

Are the hospitals here the same as they are in America? Soon as you walk through the door they want to tie you down to a bed and monitor you like crazy? This isn't an accurate description of American birth--just of birth with your particular medical provider. Sounds like you were treated by a fairly traditional medical practice. I had my daughter with hospital-based midwives in the US and they allow you to birth in any position you like so long as it's safe for baby. There are TONS of great hospitals and birthing centers in America that are GREAT in this regard. However, they are not the majority and, depending on the city you live in they can be quite non existent. Yes, that was my experience because i was high risk. I actually wasn't speaking on my experience but rather my experiences and observations with the majority of the members in my family and friend network. Its standard protocol to insert an iv and hook you up to a machine and keep you on your back most of the time as it makes things easiest for the hospital staff. I think it more safe to generalize towards the majority than towards the minority. I mean just think about it, how many of your family/friends have had the same experience? Especially for mothers who have done little to no research, it's simply the standard of care. I just feel that it should be the opposite, the hospital staff and doctors should be informing you and encouraging you to do what's best for you and your baby. Unfortunately the politics of most hospitals, their insurance premiums, doctors being sued etc. have led to the increase in policies that seek to control births in a way that minimize the hospitals risk instead of minimizing the c-section rate or episiotomies, etc. for example, I have a cousin who just recently posted on Facebook on how happy she was that she had convinced her doctor to induce her as SHE was ready to be done with pregnancy. Reading things like that make me sad, I wanted to respond but every other poster was soooo happy for her I didn't want to be the downer lol.

Thank you. Hi Dahin I think you're spelling her name wrong, try typing it exactly how it appears on the City Hospital website. I know of a couple of people who highly recommend her. I think perhaps as she is the department head she is unable to take on as many patients as the rest of the doctors. If I find some posts I will reply here. Good luck!

As I get nearer and nearer to my due date I'm wondering which hospitals give mothers who wish to deliver their babies naturally the most freedom when it comes to laboring. Are the hospitals here the same as they are in America? Soon as you walk through the door they want to tie you down to a bed and monitor you like crazy? Or do some hospitals offer more freedom than others? I'm currently with Dr. Elsa at City Hospital but I'm beginning to wonder which hospital is actually best for increasing the likelihood of a natural birth? I understand that I should stay home as long as I can as I will be able to labor as freely as I want to, take a bath, a shower, etc. But for those of you who HAVE successfully delivered naturally here in Dubai can you write of your labor experience? Were you allowed to walk around, labor in any position that felt best for you? Did you have other laboring options such as the Swiss ball etc? Were you able to take a shower/bath during labor? Eat? Has anyone ever delivered their baby here in a position other than on their back???

Hi, 3 more weeks to go here. Having my house deep cleaned this week and just trying to take it easy. I'm still going in to work 2-3 days per week which i find to be EXTREMELY tiring so am trying to do everything completely from home from here fwd. Not getting good sleep but maybe that's common for all of us here? My doc says at least 2 more weeks....so I'm counting on that to be true!

Hi, I'm going to simply re-iterate the recommendations you've been getting because I'm currently at City Hospital and with Dr. Elsa. Dr. Elsa is great, and yes, she has a long waiting list but as you're 4 weeks pregnant you can actually afford to wait. The hospital packages don't start until you're 12 weeks so you have 8 weeks to be on a waiting list. If you get on Dr. Elsa's waiting list and they say there are no appointments until November you just keep calling to make sure you get an appointment at 12-14 weeks. If you visit City Hospital and manage to speak to Dr. Elsa's nurse (which is an extremely easy thing to do) then she may be able to help you get an appointment as well. ORRR you can get on Dr. Elsa's waiting list now. Schedule an appointment now with whatever Dr. is available on your 12th week and see that Dr. until Dr. Elsa becomes available (this will also help you get your foot in the door with Elsa as you can speak to the ladies who do the appointments and tell them you're looking to switch to Elsa and if there are any availabilities you'd like to be switched). Most of the Drs at City are good and you'll probably like whatever Dr you get but don't skip the appointment with Elsa. She's just better. Dont take anyone's word for it, just make sure to check her out yourself when you can. I switched over to her at 35 weeks!

A friend recently used BabyList at http://babyli.st/ She picked baby items from various stores (regardless of whether you can buy them online or not) and it compiles everything in one place. People can buy the item in person then go online and mark it as purchased so you don't get double gifts. Congrats x Oh wow this is great! Babyshop has an online store so I can just add items to the babyli list and its like I'm registered there! Wonder if mothercare has online shopping or maybe i can just add the page to the babyli list! Thanks soooo much!!!

Mothercare do baby registries but they are tied to one store only (eg. you make your registry in the Dubai Mall branch and then people can ONLY access it there), which is really inconvenient. I'd personally just ask for things you can't have enough of (diapers...), ask for everyone to chip in on a big ticket item (stroller...) or just ask for receipts and be ready to go on an exchange trip. Yes I visited Dubai Mall today (well...yesterday) and found that out. What is the deal here in Dubai? Why is it so difficult for them to get with the program lol. So I paid 10AED for the Mothercare catalog and they gave me the form so I can fill it out at home. At least the Dubai Mall Mothercare is the biggest one here I guess and people would only need to go there :-/ I don't really need that much stuff, i think i might just make a list and have my sister post it to the evite and request receipts like you suggested.
