Little explorers- Mirdif city centre Dolphins show - creek park Al Qasba in Sharjah is lovely but I guess it's far away for you, you can ride the Ferris wheel, boats in the lagoon, bikes rides & play area, there are also nice dining areas & coffee shops Emirates zoo is nice but it's in Abu Dhabi? I think there are buses from dubai but I'm not sure.

Yup, depends on what you're looking for & your budget, for a wedding ring, I went for loose certified diamonds & I got my rings custom made, & it was pricey, for everyday wear I buy what I like from different shops like Damas or Pure Gold, I also have some branded diamond rings like Tabbah & Chopard but those are pricey.

I cook for my maid, I dont see an issue, when she joined she didnt have a clue about cooking. I cook in bulk for 3 days for her, I always keep cooked rice in the fridge, she's fine with most of our food, but when I cook something she doesnt like I cook a simple stew to eat it with her rice. Now I guide her to cook her own meals when I cook soemthing she doesnt like. I also have a picky kid, he was 2 when she joined, I told her clearly that this food is for my son & he will eat it later. I keep indomie & frozen burgers for her when I dont plan to cook. She used to throw her left overs, but I explained to her that it's "haram" , since then she started to keep the leftovers to eat them later, we eat leftovers, so it's not like forcing her to eat something we dont eat. I buy her sweets & chocolates. I dont count what she eats or notice how much coffee she's drinking, she asked for permission to drink from my coffee when she joined as it smelled good, so I told her it's ok. Hubby drinks a huge bag of turkish coffee in one week, I drink coffee once or twice a week. When I get my son a happy meal, she gets an upsized adults meal. When we order takeaway, we order for her even if she had her lunch or dinner. Now she helps I preparing our food, she can use the pressure cooker, clean chicken & roast it, make salads, chop veggies, etc. It takes some patience, when ours joined she didnt use to take a shower everyday, she used to keep her room dirty, & she used to consume loads of cleaning stuff. I had a talk with her, told her that proper hygiene is important in our house & her room is part of our house. As for cleaning stuff, I buy in bulk, I explained to her clearly that the stuff she has should last for 3 months, if shs' s out of cleaning stuff (other than washing powder) she should try to be creative like using dettol to mop the floor instead of the floor liquid, clorox for the bowl instead of harpic & so on. She gets shampoo & deodorant every two weeks, a tooth brush every 2 months, but she has access to soap & tissue roles from our supply. She's trying to impress you as she's scared to lose her job, sit with her, set up the rules, give her a week as probation, she decide if you want to keep her or return her to the agency. If you still think she's playing up, return her to the agency. Good luck

Our maid is from the Philippines, we're Muslims but she's Christian. I dont go for maids with experience, I interview them by phone & I set up rules during the call, I also make sure that the agency is aware of those rules before bringing her here. This one is my 3rd maid from the Philippines, I never had issues with our maids, she's been with us for 2 yrs now, she's going on vacation soon but she's coming back for another 2 yrs. I also go for young (24-26 yrs old) with no children with high school certificate for easier communication.

Where did I say he doesn't eat breakfast? He eats a cooked meal (veggie stew with rice) for breakfast, he doesn't eat breakfast type food as in porridge eggs & cereals. 1 tsp of molasses is not loads of sugar & it has loads of minerals & vits. His smoothie is milk, strawberry & mixed berries (which are low GI fruits), 1/4 avocado handful of greens, molasses, nuts & seeds & he drinks it 3 times a week. the fruit pots (2 per day small size) are unsweetened. Sugar in fruits are natural, unlike the ones in packed cereals. As I mentioned he does NOT eat any type of sweets not even a cookie or chocolate. I fail to see where you found the sugar in my son's diet other than the tsp of molasses? Even when he eats yoghurt it's natural plain yoghurt

My son doesn't eat any breakfast food, she's not missing much if she doesnt eat cereals (processed), I offer him a cooked meal for breakfast (dinner leftovers), you can try to make plain cheese pizza / manakheesh with white cheese & add 1 egg to the cheese, or add 1 egg to the dough. He's very picky, he doesnt eat any frsh fruits or raw veggies but he's fine with stews served with rice/ freekheh/ bulgur wheat. I also add grounded flax seeds & chia to stews for Omega 3. I offer him smoothies & milkshakes & I add some raw greens & dates molasses to sweeten them. The trick is adding loads of steawberries to keep it pink. He also likes carrefour fruit pots with no sugar added. He is 4 yrs, at 1 yr it was a struggle to get him to eat anything other than yoghurt, cheese & baby cereals, but I went cold turkey with the cereals at 2 yrs as they are too processed. There is a good thing about his pickiness as he deosnt eat any junk not even chocolates, biscuit s, candies, crisps & so on which is a blessing with a picky eater

She eats from what we eat, regardless if it's it's steak or salad, she is picky but I respect that, if I cook a meal I know she doesnt like, I cook pasta with cream sauce for her (her fav). We also sha e sweets& chocolates. We dont eat sweets frequently, but she likes sweets, so I do buy doughnuts, cake, knafeh, & sni kers for her. She drinks from my coffee, she makes my coffee & she commented that Iit smells good when she joined. She eats chicken legs & thighs not the breast, hubby eats the breast, I cook a whole chicken, & they get what they like. I use loads of lamb meat in my cooking which is not cheap, she also goes to restaurants with us. If I dont have anything at home to feed her I order from KFC or or burger king for her (we dont eat those), I also keep frozen burgers for her. When my son asks for a piece of cake or manakheesh from downstairs she takes him down & she buys for him & her. I pay for her toiletries, she has access to our stock, she can use whatever she wants, yesterday she was complaining about her dry elbows & knees, so I gave her my scrub I also pay for all her clothes. & phone calls. But she's very generous, she treats my son when we go out, she bought him an expensive birthday gift, she also got a gift for my nephew on his birthday, she lends me money when I'm out of cash looool, I dont pay her a big amount of $$$$ compared to what I read here, but she gets extras all the time, we even take her with us to resorts & hotels. I honestly wouldnt pay a big salary to a maid then complain about paying her for a AED 40-50 piece of steak or ask her to pay for a piece of sweet, I'd offer a reaosnable affordable salary then pay for the extras when they come along, this way my maid will not feel discriminated

I'm not sure if this is helpful but I wash them at home, 1 piece at a time early in the morning, I fold them then I hang them outside to dry in the balcony, then I put them back in the evening even if they're still a bit wet. if they have hooks you can wash them with the hooks, I use a pillow case to put the hooks side in then I wrap it tightly & fold the curtain around it. HTH

My DS is 4 but he's not really bothered about tv, ipad or computer, I never limited their use but I engage him in ongoing activites during the day at home & outside. He used to spend all day playing with the ipad or watching tv at the age of 2 which was frustrating, I didn't think that limiting time would be a good long term solution so I started to be more creative in activities at home. We dont keep the tv on all day, it goes for over 3 days switched off (I only watch Grey's Anatomy on Tuesdays loool). He loves arts work, playdoh, making his own games using papers, newspapers, etc. Cushions, blankets, treasure box... I just keep him occupied. He didnt go to a nursery & this is his 1st school year, I sometimes put the tv on & I try to encourage him to sit and watch to give me some space, but 20 mins is his max before he gets bored, he's over ipad games. He used to love toys, but now it's all about arts works, imaginary play & inventing new games, he also goes to several after school classes, so he doesnt even have time to watch tv. He runs around the house, he rides his balance bike, we have a 6ft trampoline indoor. He has a tv in his playroom but he never switches it on, the ipad is his & it's in his room but again he rarely uses it.

I bought a solid wood bedroom with metal(without wardrobe), super king size bed, with mattress (was given forfree original price AED 3000 in the market), 2 night stands, two chests of drawers (one with huge mirror) for AED 13000 from Atrium on 50 % Sale, & this shop is pricey. There are many options here & prices vary. During the shopping festival all furniture shops go on Sale.

I'm sorry but I respectfully disagree that you pay for major maintenance like duct cleaning. Schools and hospitals get duct cleaning carried out every year. My previous landlord paid thousands for it once every three years. As a tenant we paid for light ac maintenance like cleaning of grills and filters. edited by Rafflesia on 16/12/2013 We don't pay for any light maintenance not even changing bulbs or AC cleaning, they clean the ACs every 3 months, they paint the apt every 1 year, they clean & vacuum the false ceiling at request, they paint doors, etc at request without charge. But duct cleaning is not part of it so we can't really complain. I even got them to change a whole cabinet in the kitchen with the sink, all the apt bathroom mirrors, the old toilet water hoses (which we're working but old) last year without paying a thing. I've been a tenant for 11 yrs, I even use their team to do personal work & they never complain but I pay for it (I don't have to but I pay the handyman for the extra work) edited by wickedangel_78 on 16/12/2013

Shouldn't your land lord organise and pay for this as part of regular maintenance? Landlords clean grills & filters & do regular maintenance to the system but they don't clean ducts.

They dont call or deliver to home address if it's send through normal mail, do you have a tracking number? You can track parcels through emirates post using the tracking number online, & a shipment from UK using normal mail takes 5-6 weeks to arrive. I had 2 shipments from the States, they only mentioned the home address with no p.o.box number or phone, it took me one month to track them but I couldnt find them without the shipment tracking number, they were there at the post office for 30 days, but everytime I went there they werent able to track them until the sender provided me with the tracking number. edited by wickedangel_78 on 15/12/2013

Cook your food without salt, fork mash from what you're eating, give tastes & rely in milk as main nutrient (formula/ BM). I didnt prepare any food, I fork mashed from our food & gave tastes. if you want to buy go for anything labelled organic (hipp organic or organix are good brands) At 6+ months they can eat anything except honey, shellfish, nuts & cow milk as drink (they can eat normal yoghurts & cow milk in food & cereals) , this is if there is no allergy history in the family

What would you expect your 3 year old to be doing at nursery? I feel like we don't get much feedback. My son was brilliant with numbers and his alphabet and knew them from a very early age. Now he seems to struggle and mixes some up. Is it normal to regress at this stage? My son (turned 4 in November) was obsessed with numbers & letters, he was reading cvc words at 2.5 yrs, he didnt go to nursery, now he goes to school (KG1), he doesn't have much interest in letters anymore, when I ask him to read he refuses, so I leave it to that. He goes to BrainOBrain classes & he's doing great with numbers. I'd just leave it, they will teach him letters at pre-school.

Balance is the key! We're not allowed in school classes after drop off, but we can talk openly to teachers at drop off/ pick up without arranging an appointment, the school also holds several events, workshops & seminar s for parents so we're always involved. My son is in KG1, when he 1st joined they had shorter hrs (3hrs only) for week 1, on day one 1/2 the class attended & the other half attended the next day, we were advised to stay until the kids get used to the environment but not more than 1 hr. I honestly wouldnt be happy if I stay at my son's school all day, he's too attached to me, school is there to overcome separation anxiety & help kids to build self esteem & independency. I honestly wouldnt like it if parents are involved in daily ongoing class activities, we get a time to be involved in in-class activites but all parents are invited

What time is he waking? Do you mean at night? Each & every night after 2-3 hrs of sleeping, night terror also starts after 2 hrs of sleeping, then he wakes up randomly between 1- 3 am. He goes to bed at 7- 7.30 pm & he wakes up at 6 am (if he doesnt wake up between 1-3 am he wakes up at 5 am for the day) But he whines & cries while sleeping almost all night. edited by wickedangel_78 on 09/12/2013

He's more into imaginary play, he's not so bothered about tv or iPad It's not a recent or new thing, when he was a baby he used to sleep through without feeds but he used to wake up several times for his dummy, he never slept through. I'm not into sleep training or leaving him to cry, he's very sensitive, his nose allergy is seasonal, it was bad last week but now he can breath well. My brother was in one of those schools (school of creative science), he learned loads of quran but he rebelled in grade 8, my parents pulled him out, he didnt understand why it was haram to talk to a girl & so on. I was in an islamic school I didnt understand why I should wear hijab at school as I didnt wear it outside, the idea of wearing hijab wasnt appealing to me. At 24 I decided to wear hijab, I'm not so religious but I'm getting there. As for schools, look into Ajman Academy, my son goes there, it's 30 mins away from Sharjah & the curriculum is IB/PYP , & the fee is reasonabke compared to IB schools in Dubai, good luck xx
