Advice re moving to Brisbane

I'd like to find out whether it's worth me buying/selling the following here or in Brisbane, where we'll be moving to:

- KitchenAid Mixer (don't have)
- Blender (don't have)
- Double stroller (don't have)
-Outdoor play structure for kids (don't have)

- kettle, toaster oven, toaster (currently have, in good working condition, but want to upgrade)- should I sell old appliances and buy new ones here, or buy new apps here and sell old apps in Brisbane, or do both in Brisbane?

I've been told to buy as much consumer products here as possible, so I'm guessing I'll load up on diapers, toiletries (anything else?), but then is it worth it because I've got to keep track of the purchases and pay GST?

---
Also, any recommendations for a real estate agent there? We're looking for temp accom for a furnished house in CBD and eventually a rental in the same area or nearby suburbs. Thanks!

Green-ish, wish I saw this post earlier, I just bought the double stroller! Yikes, on the temp, will def need to stock up on the scarves!

Thanks littleone for the Trading post site- yikes some of the used prices list are the same as what I'd pay new in the States- I guess I should have looked into this before I went back to the States earlier! basil, thanks for the agent and CBD area info. Someone told me that the KitchenAid Mixer in Australia was $800! But then again, I've noticed that people advise others to buy everything in Australia before coming to Dubai and the other way around, so I I'm a little confused. I guess I'll just buy anything that looks like good value here and get the rest down there. Does anyone know of good DSS deals? Ebay (Australia) is usually way cheaper than the Trading Post-try that first-better selection too

We very soon gave up on adapters.... We did a bunnings trip and bought a whole heap of plugs to replace the UK style ones from the ones we bought in Dubai.. Quite simple to do with a screw driver as the instructions for the colour wires are in the packet.... we have kept the UK plugs in the shed.... just incase we need them for another move!! ... As long as you know you might not have insurance if there's an electrical fire. While the gear is on sale at Bunnings, it's illegal to do your own electrical (or plumbing!) work unless you're licensed. ;) Can't even legally re-seat a tap!

One thing that has proved very useful that we bought in Dubai are the multi plug power boards - you can fit 4 or so plugs in them from just about anywhere!! (voltage compatible of course..)... we just changed the plug that goes into the wall and Voila! edited by famn-oz on 16/06/2012

KitchenAid is $689 (+ $16 postage) on petersofkensington.com.au I have found that retailers will match their prices because they are out-competing everyone. :) We bought our KitchenAid in Dubai, but only because that's where we were living and where we planned to be for a lot longer. If I had known we were coming home, I would have waited and bought it here in case of warranty issues. I am also struggling to find decent adapters for the UK plug. I have paid up to $20 each for adapters and none last very long. I am about to pay a small fortune to an electrician to get all of our cords/plugs replaced. If you do buy a KA in Dubai, DON'T buy one with the South African plug on it...they don't earth correctly and the whole body of the machine goes live! YES, I know from personal experience!!! We made the distributors aware of this (with LIVE demonstration)...they replaced our machine and put the SA plug one back on display!!! IKEA is significantly cheaper in Dubai. If there are any IKEA bits you need/use/like, buy them there!! Have a look at the Aus website for prices and be prepared to be horrified. I'm not a massive IKEA fan, but like it for kids stuff, fabrics etc. There's also only one store in Qld at the moment and it's about 30-60 mins drive depending on where you'll be living. Double stroller...depends on what you want. Have a look at some online baby stores and see what's available. Warranty issues would be the deciding factor for me. (I am just north of Brisbane and have two doubles I want to sell...both cheap!! :D - Worn out, old style P&T and a side-by-side Peg Perego Aria Twin) Don't leave Dubai without stocking up on scarves and pashminas from the textile souk. :D I cry when I see the prices of identical items here!! How much you buy there also depends on whether you're paying for shipping. :) edited by Green-ish on 16/06/2012

And remember that is after tax money so pre-tax earnings of getting up to $1,200 would be required to purchase. We were surprised when we moved here how cheap many of the electrical goods are, but then Dubai is closer to everywhere than Australia, so you don't have the same costs involved in shipping and distribution around the country.

Remember that Aus has a different plug so you will also have to get an adaptor or have the plugs changed. Plus you have to pay for the shipping when you move. I would look on line and see how much they are in Australia and then compare with here. I bought my Kitchen Aid here because it worked out cheaper (only slightly), blender you can get anywhere and cheap or expensive. The kids outdoor play stuff you could get at a garage sale or in the trading post.

I think Kitchen Aid are a set price World wide. They are never reduced anywhere! Strollers well far more selection here and better quality. If you don't want the top designer and happy with anything ,when there look up the trading post ( like Dubizzle ). All electrical items you will have far more selection here! Remember this with everything in Aust. Real estates, the large ones are Ray White, L J Hooker, The Proffessionals . CBD areas, New Farm, Paddington, Toowong, Highgate Hill, Kelvin Grove. So when you look up the net and research look at hese areas
