After Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman commented that the abaya is not mandatory in Islam, there has been a fashionable rebellion in the Kingdom as Saudi women are embracing new ways to wear the abaya.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince announced that wearing an abaya or hijab is a women’s choice, as the laws of Sharia stipulate women to dress respectfully but do not specify a black abaya or a black head cover. Therefore a woman can decide “what type of decent and respectful attire she chooses to wear."

London Modest Fashion Week returns for its second year after success in 2017 at the Saatchi Gallery, as this year London’s Victoria House is hosting modest fashion designers and hijab-wearing fashionistas over 17th and 18th February.

The latest modest fashion was showcased in the Middle East over the weekend during Dubai’s first Modest Fashion Week. As Dubai’s Burj Park welcomed designers, models and influencers such as Halima Aden who modelled Rasit Bagzibagli’s designs, fashion blogger Leena Asad, British Hijabi model Mariah Idrissi and Marc Jacobs beauty ambassador Rhea Jacobs.
