Aramex definitely does do door to door delivery in Qatar, just not for the shop n ship service. It's very common for shipments to spend some time at the port or airport for customs clearance.
Can't you just send it either as air freight or excess baggage on your flight? Sounds like its a number of boxes, not a container.
if I go with DHL or Fed Ex or UPS, does anyone know the difference among the 3? Gosh they're so expensive it seems crazy just for personal effects!
What made me wary of them is that they said at first that they COULD do door to door (only 2 weeks ago) and now they say they cannot. I am going to just do DHL. It's much less stressful for me to have it done door to door, rather than having to go from Al Khor to the airport in Doha (and hope that someone with a large car would even be able to take me there!) and fuss around with customs. DHL is expensive but I should be reimbursed according to what I've been told.
There is no home delivery by Aramax here - you have to go to their offices to collect. There is very little street delivery here at all - no postal delivery for example, the reason being there aren't really street addresses.
HI,
Yes realized later that those were India. Only ones I could find for US were on YELP and the four of those were all bad. I do realize that usually people only do those reviews if they've had a bad experience. Just getting cold feet b/c they had said 2 weeks ago they could do door to door for me and now they say they can't... and I don't want my stuff sitting around in Doha airport. maybe I'll just DHL and pay more and be sure it goes door to door.
Hi Rumers
I followed the link you posted and I don't know if you noticed but all the reviews were for India, and even the one that said Dubai was from an item coming from the same place in India - Pune. It may be that the problem is with that office, or somebody is posting malicious reviews. I haven't used Aramax myself, but I know that they are very commonly used here, and we have had lots of good recommendations for them. Good luck!
Hi all,
I guess the one person on here who recommended Aramex had a good experience with them but I just a slew of very bad reviews on this site about them:
http://www.mouthshut.com/product-reviews/Aramex-reviews-925107378
And I find it weird (and they couldn't give me an explanation) as to why two weeks ago they said they could do door to door for me and now they say they cannot.
I have now cancelled with them (the pick up was going to be today) and I must find a new RELIABLE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED company IMMEDIATELY. I have ONE DAY LEFT to ship!
PLEASE HELP!
Thank you so much!!!!
URGENT QUESTION!
Aramex now says that because my boxes are "personal effects" that they cannot take my boxes through customs in Doha and cannot get my boxes on to my school in Al Khor. They say my boxes will sit at the airport until I collect them. Is this normal and is it SAFE for my boxes? It's a bit unnerving to think of the boxes rattling around at the airport possibly unsupervised for 3 weeks until my arrival. Does anyone know of shipping companies that WILL get my stuff through customs and on to my school in Al Khor? I have only 4 days left to figure this out and to ship. PLEASE ADVISE ASAP!!!!
Thanks you guys! I contacted Aramex and I will be emailing them a list of what I want to ship and how much I think the boxes will weigh and then they will send me an estimated quote. I hope it will be within what the school will cover. Thanks again for the help!
we sent 1.5 cubic meters airfreight and nothing by sea, basically your shipping cost will most likely be calculated on either volumetric weight or actual weight, depending on which is more. 200kg isn't that much if its things like books, computers etc it soon adds up.
Try contacting the airport you are flying out of, the airlines will do unaccompanied baggage rates and often there are shipping companies based near the airport. You can also get quotes from furniture movers like crown relocation's or whatever are the big name furniture movers in the states, it will vary between companies whether they will pack and unpack, be door to door or airport to airport. If the company has no preference then just get a quote from a well known company, they'll be the most expensive but will take care of everything and your goods are less likely to get damaged.
Hi - Try contacting Aramex - they have offices in NewYork and LA. Their number in New York is 1-718-553 8740. It is well worth getting a shop and ship account with them too as you can get things mailed to you in Doha safely and efficiently
So, I got this response back from the HR person when I asked if there was a company they preferred me to use for shipping:
"No we don't know any company would like you to use for the airfreight.
We advise you to use the cargo - door to door not express courier."
So, if I follow that advise, I will not be using Fed Ex or DHL. Anyone have any advice for me on which companies to use out of the U.S.?
We were moving from the UK. I thought it might give you an idea of roughly how much 70kg was. The airfreight was sent by courier, not as excess baggage. 200kg sounds very generous air freight to me, but we also had a 40ft container. The relocation company packed everything for us, and the air freight contained things we felt we didn't want to wait 6 weeks for. Sorry I can't help with a courier company, although we have been advised that DHL are reliable.
Hi,
Did you happen to do this from the US? From your ausgirl name I'm thinking maybe you moved from Australia.... but, I'm wondering if you, or anyone else, has advice on what airfreight company to use, from the US. Did you pack the boxes yourself?
Thanks!
When we moved here, on top of the usual airline luggage allowance, we were allowed 70kg airfreight. To give you an idea of what that is we put in our air freight - desktop computer with 19 inch screen, small computer printer/scanner plus all the cables, and about 1/3 ream paper, our Delonghi coffee machine, and prob about a kg of coffee, a large beauty case, containing bottles of shampoo, conditioner, medicines, etc, quite a few pairs of shoes, lots of clothes, (but not winter clothes) and probably about a dozen dvds/cds. We were a couple of kg over the 70kg allowance. I can't remember if this was 1 or 2 household moving size boxes. It is really good to be surrounded by your home comforts and memorabilia.
200 kgs is equal to 440 pounds. As a comparison, on a transatlantic flight you are usually allowed 2 bags of 50 lbs each. So that is 4.5 times the regular luggage allowance.
I have no idea what 200kg means. That's the amount of weight they'll cover? I guess i have to translate that to pounds to get a sense. Thanks for clarifying what air freight means!
Ask your employer what it means. If it is indeed 200KGs Air freight - WOW!! Check with the airline you are travelling with and see what their air freight charges are for the size and weight of your shipment - then forward that amount to your employer and ask if you will be reimbursed.
DHL is a courier, that sends things by air. Air freight generally is with a particular airline or freight forwarding company.

Hi everyone,
I am not moving furniture and large things so I don't need a moving company. I would like to send two large boxes (or at least one large one) besides bringing two suitcases. I looked into DHL. One large box is about $460 US Dollars to send. That's more than the contents are worth, although to do want those contents over there with me. It seems a bit crazy to spend that for one box, and maybe I'd be totally reimbursed, but I don't know. It is not at all clear to me what monetary offer I'll be given for shipping expenses. In the contract it only says "allowances based on shipping 200 kg. Method of calculating cost bsaed on airfreight rates." I don't really know how to interpret that. If anyone can interpret it for me, that's great, and/or does anyone know of any other shipping methods that would make sense for me?
