You've probably all heard - Sherborne, with a unique lack of planning and foresight, has run out of space in the school, and the years 7-9 are going to be homeschooled for an indeterminate period..... Waiting for a piece of official paper (that has already been expected for a year).
I can do my DS's lessons for a week or two - but am seriously worried about homeschooling him myself. My maths was learnt over 20 years ago with old fashioned methods, my English was seriously dissed last time I assisted with a MacBeth essay ( as in Ï'm 12 mom, not at university")..... As for the rest...I can barely remember covering French and certainly never tackled Arabic.... And I never wanted to be a teacher!
Are there any parents out there who would like to get together to tackle this problem together? Is there an experienced teacher who would like to freelance a bit of teaching?
Can anyone give me words of comfort and encouragement? Am seriously reconsidering boarding school.....

Yes, you're spot on BEDH. I have been trying (after the disastrous year last year) to persuade my DH. He's been dithering, but this last display from Sherborne has put the nail in the coffin. I'm now trying to sort out boarding school for short term until I can move my entire family..... Not ideal. Doha4now - initials and first names are plenty for the school to identify anyone who talks to the paper. And you know what it's like in this country - if you upset someone high up by speaking the truth, your DHs RP can get rescinded..... I want to go - but on my terms! Personally, I think Sherborne is beyond embarrassment. They think they are untouchable because no matter what kind of a stuff up they make, there will always be new expats coming in that need school places. It's all about money for them, not about educating our kids.

This news has definately sold me on heading back to the UK for the sake of my children's schooling . For me all the stories of delays to opening, make shift provisions, waiting lists , and staff disapperaring off is not worth the stress . The lack of communication to parents is a big concern.

Hi everyone.. First, let me say I cannot believe that this is happening! Second, Doha News is VERY interested in this story and would like to follow it up --so all you Sherborne parents who want your side of the story to be put out there pls email [email protected] She can use just initials, first names etc and you dont have to worry about it affecting your kids. She will also need someone to send her any correspondence they got from the school so that they can quote it on their website. This will helpfully embarass Sherborne and its local management into coming up with a better solution than take your kids home and sort it out for yourselves.

That's a terrible situation, and I feel for the parents and children. The school just about fitted 300 pupils in it when my daughter was there so was really surprised to see they were still expanding to 700. I think greediness has taken over from common sense!!! edited by alee on 07/09/2012

hi puppylove 2 i wasnt aware that there was any meeting this morning!!! Wasnt informed!!! Perhaps thats fortunate for sherborne!!! i have a child in another school and would have made him late for school to attend the meeting had i known. arghhhhh!!!! im furious as theres no mention in the email sent late this afternoon about any back up plan, or if they only forsee this situation for next week, i get the feeling its going to way longer than a week. many parents are working, its nothing short of a nightmare. can rant and rave all night long here but wont change anything for now. awaiting your email and your rants too!!

I am not involved or affected at all, but very shocked to hear that this is happening. Very hard position for parents to be in. My initial thought was why are the school not hiring rooms in hotels or somewhere so they can carry on teaching the children in their classes?

Hi Dottymum, I'm in Al Waab, so was hoping to get together with closer families. But I'm going to email you to rant anyway!!! Did you attend the meeting this morning? Not a single question was answered, but many very very sincere apologies were offered. I don't want apologies, I want education for my son!!
