Well first of all hello to everyone as I will be a newbie in Doha soon too- just have to wait a bit longer in the Uk whilst my daughter finishes A levels and fingers crossed starts University in September- before the Uk we were in Spain for 8 years so didn't want her to move schools again.
My husband has been in Doha now for a couple of weeks and has just found out that he will be paid in cash for at least the first month..now regarding paperwork/admin he is used to me doing absolutely everything !!- so can anyone advise where the best place would be to send cash back to the uk till a new bank account is set up ?? Also can he open a bank account before the RP comes through ( looked on a few websites and commercial bank said that it is possible whilst applying but I am sure I have seen comments to differ ! ) local knowledge is always best if anyone can advise ??
Thanks:)

Thanks for that- like you i would have supposed that HR would have sorted it all out too but so far they have been rubbish at all that stuff that you would expect them to do !! they would have been my first port of call too but have 1 HR guy for thousands of staff- although to be fair they have been quick at sorting other things like accomodation and flights out- re banking they said go wherever you want !! I did think of HSBC so maybe will tell him to go there- like I said he has a really responsible job managing huge accounts etc but in his domestic life he hates dealing with all the bank stuff and has always had me to deal with it all for him !! Good to hear that there are plenty of places for cash transfer as having never visited yet- my first time will be January- I can't visualise anything...once I have been and had a lookabout I am sure a lot will be clearer...looking forward to it...

Western Union is the big money exchange/transfer company. It is in all the malls. I have never used them but I have heard they are fine. You can get a bank account before you get a RP, the company sort it out for you usually. As long as you have a contract etc. Your husband just needs to ask his manager or HR. Like most people we regularly send money back via the bank. I was just thinking when you said you had a daughter going to Uni in the future.....it is handy to be able to use a bank here which you can send money back via the internet direct to the UK immediately. We use HSBC (I know some people have had problems with them, but we haven't) and when my son texts and needs money (student!) it is comforting to know we can be sat at home and send it back to him in minutes. He also has an HSBC account in the UK. Just a thought for the future!

All the shopping malls have Kiosks for sending cash. They are usually near the supermarkets, and can easily be identified by the long queues of workers outside. I understand that the exchange rates are the same wherever you go. Sorry, I can't remember the names of the company, and don't know about the bank accounts - I suggest your husband asks at his company because they often have a contact at a particular bank.
