I heard an advert on the radio today requesting blood donors to come to the Hamad hospital and do their bit, especially O + and O -. i used to donate in the UK pre kids and have no probs with it but just wondering if anyone does it here and could share their experience. I'm happy to do it if it's a quick half hour with a cuppa and a rich tea at the end of it but not so keen if it's going to take all morning because of red tape and paperwork.....

Do you know if they have mobile donor teams who can go and collect at schools, etc as in the UK.

Hi KMT.... I have seen a mobile DB van once at Qatar Academy but that was over a year ago, someone told me that they are around but I have not been able to find one. If this is the first time you are giving blood they will ask you to go back two weeks afterwards to organise your donor card, they don't let you do it on the first donation in case you have a blood disorder etc.... Good luck Meg xx

Thanks both for replying - great info. I'll get down there when I get a mo. Having re-read my original post I just want to qualify....when I asked about mobile donor teams visiting schools - I did mean for parents to give blood....not the kids!!!!

We go when it opens in the evening. In and out in 30 odd minutes plus generous snack at the end. You will be given a card which makes it quicker the next time you go. Times of opening are on the door.

Hi KMT I have given blood here and it took an hour at the most, I took my Qatari ID and passport filled out the paperwork and they did it straight away for me. I was surprised that they let me leave without eating but it was not at all difficult to do. FYI parking was not fun...... if you are coming from white palace intersection turn in the first turn to Hamad and take the first right and turn sharply into the carpark... This is the donor part.... If you would like more information please let me know Meg
