I need to rent a car when we arrive as my car can't be shipped until we have RP :-(.
I've tried doing a search as I'm sure there was a thread on which car rental company was the best, but I can't find it - so, sorry if I'm asking anyone to repeat themself - but which car rental company have you used and been happy with and hasn't cost a fortune?
I've found the normal ones (Avis etc) but am sure there must be local, cheaper ones?
TIA

Not Avis! Avis UAE charged me for a fake traffic fine. They produced a traffic fine from RAK when I was never physically in Ras Al Khaima! First it took 2months and dozens of calls just to get someone to look into the recurring charges on my credit card (500, 450, 660, etc). Also 3 cars broke down, one had the entire electrical system die while I was driving with my family in the car! Not one manager called me for 5 months. When asked to look into the matter the General Manager stated "we don't have time, you do it". Untrained staff and bad management currently make Avis UAE a disgrace to the Avis international brand.

We often use Al Mustafawi based at the airport and find that at least for daily and weekly rentals they are usually cheaper than the others and have pretty good service. We used them for a 2-month lease when we first got here, but that was 5 years ago, so have no idea on prices now. I have a lot of friends who use baseline, sydney and al muftah for extended leases.... I think all of them provide you with replacement cars when maintenance is needed.

We used to rent from Al Suleiman - they have an office on the C ring across from Toys R Us. This was quite a few years back, but they had pretty competitive prices at the time. edited by RachelA on 28/08/2011
