Is anyone able to give me an indication of how much it would cost to ship a cat to the UK (excess baggage) and then back again approx six months later?

That's good news (about the quarantine rules). I'd get someone to look after her for you if you can, easier all round. But at least if you need to bring her to the UK you can.

Thanks. This isn't going to happen for about two years so just trying to get a ballpark on whether I need to start begging friends in Doha to look after her now!

You can submit a request for a quote to Qatar Pet Relocators via their website http://www.qatarpetrelocators.com/index2.php Fortunately the quarantine laws to the UK have now changed so there is no 6 month quarantine in place anymore, for more information you can visit DEFRA's website http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pets/pets/travel/

coming from Qatar wouldn't the cat have to spend 6 months in quarrantine in the UK or does the pet passport apply now? When we did it before it cost an eye watering £2,000 ish altogether but that incuded the quarantine period in the UK and a BA flight for the cat. She wasn't excess baggage though - she was freight (in the hold) To bring a cat to Qatar via Heathrow seems to be between £680 and £750 (from the quotes we've had) and then you have to add on customs charges at Doha. You have to go through a pet travel agent to fly from Heathrow. edited by mrsw2 on 10/06/2012
