Hi,

We have just had confirmation of a job offer for my husband so need to start looking at what we do ! We have 3 children and need a 5/6 bedroom villa. Am really interested to hear what your thoughts are on compound vs stand alone. Are we likely to find a 5+ bed place in a compound ? Our eldest daughter has a place at DESS and my husbands office is in West Bay so that is our preferred area.

What do you think ?

Personally I would go compound with children. Better atmosphere - safe playing for them, other children around and you have the pool etc facilities on hand.

You should also consider where your children will be going to school (and get them on the waiting list ASAP). Traffic is very bad here at peak times - and doing it twice daily for the school run can be extremely stressful. Myself, I prefer standalone - others prefer compounds (and there are those that have 5 bedroom villas I believe). Standalone usually means a better/bigger garden space. Compounds usually offer gyms/tennis courts/pools etc. Depends on what is important to you - I prefer my privacy over the above mentioned amenities.
