Hi Ladies,

I'm in Doha as a single working woman. I'm covered of course through my work for medical insurance, but I have begun to wonder about the possibility of getting disability insurance in case anything happens to me which would impact my long-term earning prospects.

Has anybody looked into this in Qatar specifically? I'm from Canada and I'm pretty sure that if I were to get insurance back home that it wouldn't cover me if an accident occurs whilst I'm abroad. I'm not sure if such a product is available to expats working in Qatar.

If anyone has any experience in this, please do let me know.

Cheers,
Katcalls

Just wanted to say thanks for the input ladies. Sorry for the delay, I have been on a marathon travel jaunt. I'll follow up with lalala's suggestion. If anyone else has any input, would love to hear from you.

I assume you're talking about critical illness insurance? It's really expensive to get an international policy and you're right, now you've left, you can't get it from back home. Try speaking to comeone from this company www.qbiconsultants.com

I thought that may be the case! I have a friend who works in insurance so will ask him next time I see him :)

Hi Tamie, Very good point. I work for a local Qatari company however, so no luck there!

Hi Katcalls Are you working for a local or foreign company? Just asking as most North-American based companies will offer some sort of disability insurance as part of your overall compensation (although you may have to dig through the employee handbook to find details about it)...
