Morning ladies

I can recall someone mentioning on the forum a branch of the jarir (spelling?) bookshop that is up near education city area. I've tried searching for the thread but to no avail. Please can someone help with directions to it.

Alternatively pls can anyone suggest any other bookshops to find good hardback reference books for kids. No time to go to Dubai...shop and ship....etc.. I've tried Virgin (landmark and villagio) and selection is dire...

Many thanks

Hi KMT Just to let you know we found a hardback Children's Encyclopaedia in I Spy today - although it was in the business section rather than in the children's section.

Hi Dan Lou - I didn't get to I Spy myself but a kind friend went instead and the selection is pants, as it is in Virgin and Jarir too. No decent encyclopedia's or the like. Surely there is a large enough expat population to warrant a decent book shop here?! I was very spoilt before as there was a bookshop in Dubai exclusively for children and it was a real gem with fab books, lovely cards, great nick nacks, etc. If anyone is heading to Doha to live, has kids and has space in your container....buy books and store them for your kids b'days and xmas. Same goes for cards as the Hallmark selection can be decidedly cheesy at times...! The quest continues..

Hi KMT, how did you get on? I went to CC yesterday with the fam and it was Horrible! I ran into Adidas changed my items, bought the kids an icecream and got out of there! I guess I was just wondering if you called/rang them and whether they were as helpful as I'd hoped?

Dan Lou - no worries! It was very kind of you to offer to look for me. If you fancy any personal shopper work another day...just let me know! Hope your daughter is feeling better. Thankyou too CSH for your directions. I'll have a rekkie at the weekend, if not tomorrow. If any super finds I'll let you know!

I'm sorry KMT, no City Centre.... 1. My car in for service 2. Daughter sick overnight 3. Rain was torrential overnight 4. So husband's driver extremely late this morning 5. Meaning I can't have his car as per original plan 6. Can't even drive him to work and have car as DD still sleeping it off :( I know, TMI !! But i just wanted to explain as I would never renege on an offer without good reason!! HOWEVER... they have a website! The "online bookshop" doesn't really look active but there's at least an email address you could send through your query? Again sorry to inconvenience, hope you can find something suitable. http://www.ispybookshop.net/home/contact-us

The Jarir in Al Rayyan is easy to find. It is next to the Family Food Centre and just down from Al Rayyan roundabout. It has a good section of books upstairs and I think it is better than the one at Ramada lights.

Hi Dan Lou If you could have a quick look that would be great. Something along the lines of a good hardback encyclopedia / ref book / atlas for boys - ideally a DK - Dorling Kindersley or perhaps Usborne. Not that I'm being too specific...! If they have something along those lines perhaps ask them to reserve x 2. I can get in there Thur am. Many thanks. (It's great to have a personal shopper...!)

I Spy is okay- it's one of the better bookshops, but this is all relative... so when I say "better," I mean compared to the other bookshops in Doha. I would take DanLou up on her generous offer to save you a trip!

Hi KMT, I'm going to City Centre tomorrow and always drop into I Spy. If you'd like me to look for something specific I'm happy to check it out for you?
