Morning ladies
Does anyone have a list of what order to do things when departing Qatar please? The bank here says that we must hand in our credit cards at least 40 days before departure so how do we pay our final power/phone/OSN bills? I went to Kahramaa to pay the power bill yesterday and they don't take cash, they only take credit cards so how do we pay our final bill? DH asked his HR department but they said 'Don't know, call the bank'. He called the bank but they said 'Don't know, call Kahramaa'. Sigh!
Also the airline we're leaving on says that we must show the credit card used for the booking at the time of checking in and of course that's the card that's being cancelled so we won't have it. Is a print out of the bank statement showing the deduction going to be sufficient? Thanks so much.

Thanks for your replies ladies. As the credit cards are with a bank based here in Qatar the accounts have to be closed 40 days out to give time for all potential debit amounts to come in. The physical ccs have to be returned or destroyed prior to our leaving the country. Unfortunately we have already used the cc to buy the airline tickets as DHs company runs a 'you-pay-then-we-reimburse' system. We can't use home country credit cards as the bank there insists that they have to send a message to a home country mobile with a special code and of course having been out of the country 10+ years neither of us has a mobile, nor could we use it here in the ME anyway...but try explaining that to a bank they seem convinced that we're up to something dodgy. Thanks so much for the reminder about the QDC deposit, we'd both completely forgotten about that.

It's only the credit cards that need to be cancelled, you can still use your debit card. You can also keep a savings account open when you leave if you wish. OSN is paid in advance so you just cancel it as appropriate. Don't forget to get back your Kahramaa and QDC deposits. We put our flights on credit cards from our home country.

For the bills can you put a credit balance on the card to cover the amount of the final charges? As for the airline, can you buy the tickets with cash at their offices?
