Hi all!
I'm Italian but at the moment living in Malaysia. The end of August we will move to Doha with my family. I've got three girls of 8,4 and 1 year old. We found the school where to send my 8 and 4 year old (finally after 3 months of looking and sending applications) and now we are busy looking for a compound. We would like to live in Duhail Nortth because seems to be the easiest way for my husband to get to work and for me is a small shot from the school. Anyone have heard or is living or have lived in the Riviera Gradens? Do you know if there is any availability? How are the villas and the quality of management and maintenance? We will come for a pre-view in June. Do you know any other compound close to that area? Oops...maybe too many questions? But I will start to breath again once everything is settled....promise! ;)

Ciao Kiara! We have just moved three days ago and we are italian as well!!! We are looking for a villa in the same area...we had a look at Riviera Gardens Compound in January and it looks very nice.I don't know if they still have any vacancy. The double storey villas are nicer and cheaper compared to the single storey (18k QR).Al Jazi Garden is beautiful for the greenery, but the villas too old and too expensive for my point of view....Buona fortuna e magari teniamoci in contatto! ciao Ciao Tina! Would be nice if we can keep in touch! We are coming in middle of June to check out many things but especially house and schools, and then we will decide the area where to stay.

I have scrolled down in Al Jazi Real Estate web site and I've found they have very ineteresting compounds. The Al Jazi Gardens seems to be very nice but a bit far from the main road to go to Ras Laffan (but we will have a look when we will be there). I saw they also have a smaller compound in Madinat Khalifa, is called Al Areen gardens. Do you have heard anything about it? Any comment and/or suggestion would be much appreciated!

I used to live right next to Riviera compound for 2 years. The main road in front (Al Khafji St) is really noisy & busy, I know someone whose villa backed onto that road & they had to move because they couldn't stand the noise. I've also heard really good things about the new Al Jazi Gardens just down the road (closer to Al Rayyan side)..

There is a new Al Jazi compound up close to there that has good feedback. The concern I would have with Riveria is that giant pit in the middle of the compound which is an eyesore.....as well as looking pretty dangerous. It has been there for years but I have no idea why it was dug out and not filled in when they decided not to do whatever they were doing!

Thanks for the replies! It helps a lot, at least I'll go and see with some advises in my mind. RachelA, my children will attend at Compass school Al Rayyan campus (I hope, we have still pay). I have spent three months sending applications everywhere DESS (which immediately replied us back saying "no-British-no-spot"), Doha college, Sherborne, ACS, and finally we have a school...I'm honestly relived to know they can start school in September. I was quiet afraid! I still don't know much about the school, but we will sort it out better in June during the pre-view. Do you have children? And where do they go? Do you know other compounds that you would suggest to visit? Thanks again!:) edited by Kiara76 on 14/05/2012

I used to live there as well, and pretty much agree with everything that Vee wrote - although thankfully we didn't have a sewage truck nearby. The maintenance guys tried their best but we also had ongoing problems with the AC's - more often than not they blew hot air. There are plenty of young kids around -- I had neighbors on both sides with 3-4 year olds, and they were always playing outside. I don't know about availability, but if you find there is, there is room to negotiate. I have a colleague who is still there and they are leaving at the end of August, so for sure there is at least 1 villa coming opened! Also there is a nursery school in the compound which might be great for your 1 year old. Where will your kids be at school?

I lived there for a few months last summer. To answer your questions: Availability - I'm not sure. It always seemed deserted to me and it's on the expensive side so I'd say there are always some available. Quality of Management - Seemed fine. All the staff who work there are lovely Maintenance - I have to say that I found the maintenance to be terrible. Our airconditioning failed nearly every second day. So did our neighbour's. Also, our villa was very unfortunately positioned right next to where a sewage truck parked so the whole place stunk. Be sure to take a look over your back fence and make sure there are no yellow trucks parked near you! Other than that the pool and club house are lovely. Apart from 'The Pit' (you'll see it when you get there), the compound is lovely and nice to walk around. There are at least 2 playgrounds inside the compound which will be good for your kids. Hope that helps
