I had family visiting and I took them to the souq ... one hour later, they bought 2 large rugs (far too big and heavy to fly as excess baggage) but the vendor couldn't give info on how to send them home!
Can anyone give a recommendation as to which shipping company I should use and what I have to do?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Was about to say the same as Gail....have bought extra case this way and have managed to fit carpet in it....shipping it may incur import duty?

You can buy extra cases on BA - first one is around £35 & 2nd £70. Just an fyi, I only jut found out & it's great value if you have a lot of stuff to transport. No recommendations for courier or shipping cos i'm afraid.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Unfortunately, taking them on the plane is not possible. They've already left and I can't take them back with me as I don't fly direct with Emirates or Qatar Airways to get to the north of Scotland - BA & KLM are strict with their baggage allowance! I'll give some shipping agents a call.

Agree with BEDH, although a shame you didn't get the family to take them back themselves - or at least one - or have I got it wrong and they are still here? Three of us went back to the UK recently and didn't need all of our luggage allowance, so folded up our large living room rug that we wanted to take back, and managed to squeeze it into a suitcase (by itself, mind you, and it weighed 20kg!). So maybe your family could take one back, and next time you have luggage allowance spare, you could take the other. As BEDH pointed out, Emirates does have a generous allowance! X

Fold em and bag em and take them back on the plane . My mother and mother in law did the same thing but both ( flying Emirates and Qatar respectively ) took them back with them no trouble . The largest was 16ft by 12ft but folded to a grain sack size . We plastic wrapped them and put them in the hold. It is amazing how the generous weight limits from this end can be stretched . edited by BEDH on 03/03/2013
