Souk Al Asiery is the best for that. It is air-conditioned. Drive down Grand Hamad Street towards the corniche and opposite Souq Waqif you will see a right turn. Take that and continue for a few hundred yards, go over the mini roundabout and Souk Al Asiery is on the left - maroon/grey pillars. Go early - 8.30 am and get a space to park. Don't forget to haggle for the price per metre!

Souk Al Asiery is the one with maroon coloured pillars the next block up from Al Diera. It has much the better selection for cottons and everyday materials. Al Diera is great for evening style materials though.

I agree, Souq Al Dira is good. I'm not familiar with souq Al Asiery. Is that the one right next to souq Al Dira? Sorry I can't help with directions. I usually have to look at my map or drive around until I see familiar landmarks. But souq Al Dira is near Souq Waqif- across Grand Hamad Street and down the block a bit.

Bombay Silk is on Salwa Road. It is directly on the opposite side of the road to the petrol station and KFC on Salwa Road. Coming from Ramada, it is on the bit after the wholesale market roundabout.

Souk Al Asiery or Souk Al Diera both sell textiles of varying quality and price. Have a look in Marhaba book for map - all the souks are marked. Go upstairs in Al Asiery for a better price. Happy shopping!

If you're looking for quality cotton (shirt weight) or suiting materials, go to a men's tailoring shop. I go to Al Awadi just off Bank Street (officially Grand Hamad street). Coming from the Mall turn right onto C ring left at Toyota (Airport Road). Under the crossed swords and next set of lights to second set (near the Islamic tower) u-turn, first right. Al Awadi is on that street on the right hand side. BUT IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to get a parking space on that street. Suggest you go early (they open at 830) and park on Grand Hamad where the banks are. HTH For raw silk etc, Bombay Silk is supposed to be the best but someone else will have to provide directions.
