Doha International Book Fair is a Bookworm’s Dream

Featuring almost every conceivable genre from children's books to texts on philosophy and lush photography collections...

The Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) is one of the oldest and largest international book fairs in the Gulf region. With over 335 publishing houses representing 31 countries and spanning 29,000 square meters, there is something for everyone.

Each year the DIBF selects a country as a ‘Guest of Honour’ and this year it is France. Several sections of the large space are modeled like quaint French streets which contain sidewalk cafes, like Fuchon and Angelina, for guests to enjoy a cappuccino or light snack.

DIBF is extremely diverse in its selection of books and reading materials. The Fair contains large sections of children’s books and every type of book imaginable for adults.

A majority of the books and materials are in Arabic, however, the US Embassy in Qatar has an English book section containing the New York Times’ best seller’s list books, Oprah’s Book Club selection 2019, children’s books and other diversified material.

TIP: The US Embassy staff recommends attending the fair each year or on the first or second day as a large portion of their inventory is purchased at the beginning of each Fair. This is likely due to the shortage of English book selections in Borders and Al Jarir bookstores around Doha.

In addition to an expansive selection of reading material, the DIBF offers a wide range of cultural events such as seminars, lectures, workshops, children’s plays, and hands-on activities.

Visitors will witness several school groups are engaged in circuit building, science projects, coloring, and games. In addition to publishers, the Qatar National Library, Qatar National Museum, and other educational based organizations offer a range of books, locally made products, and gift shop type souvenirs to purchase.

If you are a serious collector of unique and rare books and/or maps, there is even a section for you.
