Oh they certainly do have an expedited option. Think it's called Mumtaz - but the signage was pretty clear in any case. I once sent small parcels to the US - it was 1/4 the cost of FedEx and they were delivered within 3 days!

There's a postbox just outside our compound (Al Messilah). It's yellow and in a really odd place on the exit road, but I can confirm that it 'works' as my Mum successfully sent Aunty Betty's postcard from it!!

There are actually post boxes dotted around so if its only a letter not a parcel you don't have to go to the post office. You can buy stamps at the info desk just inside the entrance to Hyatt Plaza and then drop in the post box outside the door, no lines at all. Not sure where the other ones are but apparently there are loads of them.

Okay here I am Baffled. So say again, and loudly this time... WE ARE IN QATAR!!!!!! Now that we've resolved that... not sure where there is one closer kitsune. I go to to the main one by the Corniche whenever I need a post office (which isn't all that often, but still...).:cool::cool:

The main post office is fine. It has a weird car park - you have to go up a steep ramp so be prepared for using your hand brake!! Inside it is all sign-posted. This is also where you have to go to collect parcels if customs stop them, so it could be worth a trip just to see it! They also have a govt office where you can update things like medical cards etc. I seem to remember they even have a coffee shop inside now! Don't do what I did last time - I managed to post my letter without the stamps. Combination of pestering small child, in a hurry and having a Doha day!! There was a silver lining though, the lady behind the counter said she would fish out the letter later on and put the stamps on for me and she did. The letter arrived!

Hi, I go to the Azizya branch, which is quite small and run-down. They close from 1-4 p.m. They don't sell any postal supplies so I always bring my letters ready for mailing. It's a very archaic process... watching them weigh my letters and then use a calculator to figure out postage, and then dig through a folder of stamps to give me the correct amount of postage.. which I then must lick and stamp on my own letters... and place in the small yellow post box outside of the post office!! I have used registered mail a few times, and it does seem to work well (read: items arrive at intended destination) and it's relatively inexpensive compared to using DHL or Aramex. I actually avoid going to the post office here, and usually stockpile my post to mail once I'm abroad! Pathetic, I know...

You can buy stamps at hallmark shops and post the letters at the malls, they usually have letter boxes at some entrances (ask where at an info stand). I have also bought stamps at Souk Madinat and just gave the letter to the hotel concierge to send it off. Out of my way but have used it to send parcels at al wasl post office, further down towards dubai after safa park, before the big NBD. Didn't ever have to wait long, they sell the boxes as well in different sizes. Funny I found that mailing parcels as express mail withing 3 to 4 days was cheaper than regular mailing parcels which takes up to 2 weeks. Couldn't get an explaination for that but was quite happy about it :-) and yes u can buy stamps there, although I am not sure abt the envelopes. Haven't seen them at post office but of course at any supermarket or stationery store.

I used to go to Mansoura, or Lulu Hypermarket, however there's probably something closer to you. Have a look at this list :) http://www.qatarposts.com/gpc/branch/index.htm
