Hey ladies,

I'm a bit late to the table here, and i can't find anything on the search function.

Has anyone got their license plate swapped? Can you tell me where you can do this? i think I heard that it can't be done at Madinat Khalifa, but somewhere else.

Please tell me I don't have to go to the industrial area!

I said on another thread that getting a new licence was the easiest thing you will ever do in Qatar...I could be wrong! :) I went and changed my licence plates this morning at 7.45am. Took a matter of minutes - into the prefab shed at the end, gave them my rego card, sat down for about 15 seconds then they said "go out to the car queue" (there are 3 or 4) went straight up to the guys putting on the plates, they put them on and I drove off! Too easy! In saying that I did turn up there at 11am the other morning to find out that they close from 10am to 1pm.

Hi RachelA It's in the same row as College of the North Atlantic, literally on the road over the back of Riviera Compound (where I know you used to live). It's a huge place with a high beige wall around it. You would be coming away from Landmark heading up Shamal road & the turnoff would be just past the row of garage & shops on your right. edited by kimmc3 on 13/11/2012

I I drove over the Duhail interchange and turned right when I saw the big mobile phone tower - the police training place is easy to find, follow the signs. Hi -- can you just clarify which direction you were coming from when you drove over the interchange? Were you driving along the Shamal rd? I used to live right near there, and can't for the life of me figure out where it is. AAA did my registration last month and told me the size plates I need (the long thin one) is out of stock, and I should go to the Duhail site in a few weeks, so was planning to try next week. Thanks!

I was in and out in 7 minutes last week - mu husband timed it! After a friend had said it took her three hours I was prepared for the worst, but it seems they have eventually got their act together. Or maybe it was because I was the only one there......the year is nearly up!! The only thing I wasn't prepared for was when I updated my esimara they lady asked me which size plates I wanted! I had no idea! All turned out well in the end and they haven't fallen off yet...... I drove over the Duhail interchange and turned right when I saw the big mobile phone tower - the police training place is easy to find, follow the signs.

Thanks for sharing your experience, katcalls! Seems ours will be one of those "Alice in Wonderland" experiences, yet again ;-)

I just got back from the experience. For reasons never explained, I was told when I got to the Police Training Centre that I had to go to the Madinat Khalifa traffic department and I was given a piece of paper to take with my registration. Once I got to the Madinat Khalifa traffic department, they gave me my plates right away and I had to wait in line for about 10 minutes so they could fix them on my car. This was my first visit, so I don't know why I got mine changed right away and why others are told to come back a few weeks later. Besides initially going to the wrong location, it was a pretty painless exercise all up.

Hi kimmc3, did you register to request, receive & get the car plate on the same day or did you need to request the car plate in advance? Thanks! When you take your car for it's annual registration or inspection, they tell you to go to the Police Academy 'after 1 week' (lol) and the plates will be ready for fitting. We gave it 2 weeks just to be sure.

We went to the Police Training Academy up in Duhail (behind Landmark area) and it was changed while we waited. I think it was about 2pm that we were there. Word of advice: If you have a plate that is mounted in a black frame on your car, then you must stand your ground in getting them to fix the new plate into the frame as well, otherwise they just remove the frame & stick the new plate directly to the car.
