Hello,

I am looking for a Gyno or an endocrinologist in Doha who can treat PCOS. I was diagonosed with PCOS and insulin resitant.

Amy77, you suggested Dr. Sonia Abu Saba a few years ago. I am not looking to get pregnant as I am single :). I just want my health back. Do you still suggest her?

Any suggestions, any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks.
Gaya

Thanks guys! I do have cysts and it's been so long since I have done anuthing about it. Nas08, I have read quite a bit about Pregnitude. I came up on ablog (PCOS Diet Support) and it talks a lot about Inositol. I believe Pregnitude is Inositol + Folic acid? I have ordered Insoitol from amazon and the sheduled delivery is a month away!!!! The blog talks about cutting out gluten and dairy and get on a low carb diet, which I have started to lose the weight. While in the US, I was on Metformin and to be honest never followed it through properly. If only I knew the implications! I just have to see a doc and get the tests done and have them prescribe metformin and along side do all the things the blog suggests.. I was hoping to see Dr. Sonia, but after Amy77 response, I am not sure anymore. I will probably see a doctor at Doha Clinic as I live near there and it is easier to get to. Thanks for your help ladies! :) Cheers. Gaya

Hello Gdrmvrm and amy77. I agree with amy77 on this, there are no good resources or doctors available here for the treatment of PCOs. They often start testing you for other things like thyroid, or as amy77 mentioned, are obsessed with just getting you pregnant by any means necessary. PCOs does not necessarily involve having cysts to have it, you can just have the symptoms, biggest one being insulin resistance. I've done a lot of research as I am a fellow PCO'er! There are two natural supplements which have surfaced in the past couple of years which are alleviating and dramatically improving PCOs symptoms. Fortunately, I was able to get them whilst in the US. I suspect if you get them shipped here the customs peeps will dispose of them :( Check out Pregnitude (contrary to the name it is not only used to help you get pregnant) it actually gives a woman with PCOs what her body cannot make on its own, therefore relieving her of many symptoms. The other one is called Glucorein HOP. I suggest you research both of these and start at your earliest, as there are no side effects because both are natural and have helped many women both trying to fix their PCOs and get pregnant as well. If you eventually intend on getting pregnant these are also wonderful because they promote healthy ovulation and therefore get your body ready for the long run. Check out PCOSDIVA for more information on both. It's extremely difficult having PCOs especially in a part of the world where Doctors don't even really have a clue about what you're going through or how to even treat you! edited by Nas08 on 07/04/2014

To be honest, none of the doctors here really 'get' PCOS. They (due to local culture) are only interested in getting you pregnant. Dr Sonia did tests on me, but she never really discussed the results with me, she just went into getting me pregnant mode. It was quite a roller coaster really, I went along for the ride, but if I hadn't wanted to get pregnant I doubt she would have been much use because (a) she is obsessed with getting her clients pregnant and (b) she is not very communicative unless you bombard her with questions. I'm not even sure I have PCOS any more.....the blood results I got from Dr Sonia seemed to suggest something else, although that was only from doing my own research, it was nothing she told me. I went to Dr Mandy at the Feto Maternal center yesterday, and I loved her. I only went for a routine smear test, but we ended up discussing general health matters and I mentioned my PCOS to her (she was very thorough in trying to get a full history from me about all sorts of issues). I felt like she really listened, but she did the classic doctor thing of doing an ultrasound to scan for cysts.....now if you've read the Collette Harris books you will know that PCOS is a set of symptoms, rather than a specific problem with cysts, so this isn't really a very helpful way of looking at it. It is more a case of doing bloods and building up a wider picture. But Dr Mandy didn't seem all that interested after my scan looked OK (I had hardly any cysts).....after all I don't want to get pregnant right now, and she seems to be fairly typical of doctors in only really thinking of it as a problem if you are trying to conceive. Even in the Uk you struggle to find doctors who care about PCOS, and if they do very few seem to be interested in the more holistic way of looking at it in relation to insulin etc. So, over here, I think the best course of action is to read all of Collette Harris's books and manage it yourself through diet and supplements. But if you want to see a doctor, I would go and see both Dr Sonia and Dr Mandy and see who you think is best (I suspect it will be the latter).
