Just wondering if anybody knows about this compound?

We went to see it today and I absolutely loved it. I particularly liked that the house was small - I know that sounds bonkers but I have felt really lost in some of the huge villas here!

The layout was also really nice, and it felt quite English and cosy - no beige tiles anywhere! Also the stairs and upstairs were newly carpeted, although it was horrible cheap nylon carpet which will be a ****** to hoover.

It was a 3-bed without a maids room (which is fine by me!).

The downsides, as pointed out by hubby who wasn't so keen, are:
No ceiling lights upstairs
Central air con, not split
Horrible white goods
Low ceilings (although they are not any lower than we had in England).

Can anyone who lives there comment on the above downsides? Also do you think we've got any chance of haggling the price down? He said 14.5k when I met him earlier, but I am hoping to get a better price when I go back to see him tomorrow.

Thanks Katie :) We don't really need a maid, but I wouldn't mind someone coming in a couple of hours a week just to give the floors a clean. Do you have one who could fit this bill?

Welcome to Al Messilah! We love it here. Let me know if you will be looking for a part time maid. Katie

Hi ladies, Just wanted to say a massive thank you for your advice. - it was really helpful. We went back this morning and signed the lease at the asking price, as it was too good to miss out on. Really excited about moving there in April :) Amy

P.S. I thought the rent was higher than what you have been quoted so if it falls within your budget I agree that you should go for it!!

I just recently moved out of Al Messilah and it really is a lovely environment to live in, those wide streets and, greenery, doesn't feel like Doha at all. Loved taking my baby for walks. The maintenance is amazing, our A/C broke down at 6 a.m. one Friday morning in summer (may even have been Ramadan, can't remember for sure) and it was fixed by 7 a.m. - amazing, no-one believed me. I was living in one of the small units in the "add on" bit to the compound, nearer to Megamart and moved because we needed more space and the villas in the main compound were over our budget. So miss having a little garden!!!!!

Hi Amy, We have lived in Al Messilah Gardens for the past 2 years and we love it. As GinaM mentioned there is always a que of people waiting to get in so I don't think you'll get a lower price(actually the price you are paying is 2000 QR less than we pay now! The maintenance and staff are terrific if you need them they're always very quick to reply. The air co always works well no problems . I also like the fact the houses are not to big and echo when you walk or talk. The location is also excellent only a 15 minute school run to ASD in the morning!! Hope everything works out for you! :)

We're moving there in the first week of April & have been waiting for a villa to come available there for 3 months (3 bed with maids room). Yes the houses are dated, but the maintenance is fantastic & it's great if you have kids as they can get out & about and still be safe. We have good friends who live there & they love it. Actually the rent he has quoted you is good, ours is going to be 1500 more than that! The low ceilings are particular to the 3 bed no maids room, the bigger villas have higher ceilings & the one we're hoping to move into has tiles right through :) Personally I prefer central a/c, much more efficient IMHO. The location of Al Messila is also really good for getting around Doha. I'd honestly advise you to take the place, we've lived here 2 & half years & we're happy to be moving there knowing what we know.

Thanks Gina. I did get quite a strong vibe that there would be no point haggling with him, but I'll go and see him later and see what he says. It is a really lovely compound.

I have a few friends who live there and they all really like it. In terms of the price - I don't think there is any chance of getting the price down because 1. People queue up to get into that compound and if you don't take it someone else will. 2. Prices are on the rise down on the downfall. Its a very family oriented compound.
