I'm due my 2nd baby in 2 weeks and am desperate to find a house in child friendly a compound. Close to the city is preferable to Al Waab area so my husband doesn't need to battle the traffic.
Light and spacious three/four bed with secure garden/outdoor space for two dogs and a toddler .
Older compound is preferable, no objection to dated décor as long as its well maintained - I've seen Q-Bel air and similar newer places - they aren't for us.

We are in Tebah Gardens - much older compound, lots of greenery in the gardens. We have lived in two brand new builds before this and we swore after the last one, NEVER again. Bl00dy nightmares, both of them, so we were happy to move to a more established/aged compound. The maintenance is brilliant so even if anything does go wrong, they are round quite quickly. The villas are actually quite light and the small gardens/yards are all enclosed. There is a central shared pool & children's pool that was actually refurbished over the winter and is lovely. I don't have small children but there are quite few on here. http://tinyurl.com/6bvakfc gives you a rough idea of the houses and layout http://tinyurl.com/5wsekbr Better Homes We are in one of the 8 houses with their own pool and the guys come round to clean it on a daily basis as part of the rental but the shared pool is lovely. There is a gym, compound shop that has lots of products as well as bread from Bateel every day, a small playground, tennis court. It's the last compound on Sports City St leading to Salwa Road, so we are in the middle of roadworks at the moment, but have to say that the sound proofing is brilliant, you cant hear most of the traffic.

Sorry to hijack, but has anyone got any feedback on Al Emadi or Al Shallal Gardens in Al Waab? They were the best of a bad bunch I saw yesterday...

Our villa is very light - big windows and 2 x french doors in the living area - it is a smaller compound though (Beverly Hills 2) and I don't think there are any villas available at the moment. Contact Al Ashmakh though (http://www.alasmakhrealestate.com/) and they should be able to tell you. They are pretty large (4 bedroom plus maids), own pool in the backyard, garden and quite western in style (hence the light) with lovely kitchens.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm willing to look at every area . I am surprised at the lack of light in houses . We've only moved from Bahrain where they tint the windows but I never encountered such gloom.

"light is pushing it unfortunatey, they are all built to keep the sun out which is hard to get used to. Spacious is no problem. You could try Al Faisilaya but the yards are not really big enough for dogs to run around in. There are loads of compounds down our street (just round the corner from les roses) if you just drive into each and ask to look at empty villas they should be able to oblige

Al Messilah is very handy for all of Doha & is very green & spacious. All of the villas are detached and have good sized mature gardens - plenty of room for a dog & kids. It's also extremely peaceful! I don't know if there are any vancancies, you'll need to come down to the compound & see Mr Ajith who is the rental manager.

Hi BEDH, I live in Les Roses 2 which is in Al waab, I have 2 very busy toddlers and I love it here! Very good maintanence and a lovely quiet compound. We have a secure outdoor space although its not that big compared to some places but my kids can play outside and I don't worry about them being able to get out. If you are interested then you just need to come to the compound and ask the security guard to show you an open villa, I know that there are a few open at the moment. Good luck!
