That makes me feel so much better, DebK!
After doing some research to see if I was screwing things up or just trying to use the wrong ingredients (turns out the answer was yes... twice) I found some interesting stuff online.
Most of the mavens say you need to use Elmer's glue. There is something about it's chemical compound that is a bit 'no fail'. They also say you need to use Borax... which is a specific component of laundry detergent. No other kind of detergent will cause the reaction. When I found a detailed post regarding making it with liquid starch, I had done it ALL WRONG. They said to let it sit, possibly in the fridge, for 15 minutes or so and then knead it until it gets to the consistency you want. Who knew?
A dear friend gave me some soluble fiber yesterday and it worked great to make a rubbery flubber. But it is brown. And the flubber looked EXACTLY like a pile of doggie-doo. Not quite the goodie bag material I was going for... though there will be 7 year old boys at the party. And there are few things a 7 year old boy likes more than a poop joke. Did I mention Exactly... to the point my husband came downstairs this morning and was trying to figure out if I had let one of the compound kitties into the house last night. Maybe I can just label it Dragon Poop?
:)
Haha... I tried making slime with my students last week -- unsuccessfully! Not sure what I did wrong, just know it didn't work the way it was supposed to and the only result was that I ended up with blue hands. Oops!
Nope that's me!
Cornstarch and water is AWESOME... working with it to see if I can make it ahead of time.
I have some marinating in the kitchen right now!
:)
I have no idea, did you post about it on Doha Mums maybe, or someone else did, it got into my head somehow.
have never made it so don't know how long it lasts, good luck!
How did you guess about the halloween slime!?
Doesn't cornstarch slime separate?
I am hoping to make it ahead of time for take-aways for the little ones for a party this weekend.
I tried to hydrated the powdered starch (which I think was just cornstarch at 4X the price) and use that with my recipe and it was a colossal neon green failure (though I did get the color right)!
I will try the cornstarch slime until I can locate the MEtamucil type stuff... That will make flubber-y type stuff. FUN!
:)
ok maybe I'm stupid but can't you make your own liquid starch just by adding water to cornstarch.
For some weird reason I think you are making halloween slime, sorry if I'm waaay off track but if so, I just googled this for you....

Does anyone know where I can get any of these things?
I have checked C4 (villagio), LuLu (Garaffah), FFC (on Al Rayyan) and MegaBucks for the Borax and the liquid starch.
They all seem to have other detergents (you need Borax specifically) and spray starch... not the liquid form.
I haven't started the hunt for Metamucil... just realized I can use that instead. I figured I would put it in here in the hopes someone can pinpoint where it is and save me from draying around all day (again)!
Thanks!
