Hi there, this my first post so thank you for allowing me to join. My husband is considering taking a position in Qatar. I'm quite pragmatic about both the opportunities and drawbacks there may be but I was wondering if I would be able to work from home? I'm a therapist specialising in facials (especially anti-ageing facials) and brows (HD brows and 'rescuing' brows). I have owned a spa, but now, choose to see clients in my home.

I have a horrible feeling that I won't be able to do this in Qatar, does anybody know? Fingers crossed :-)

Many thanks x

Well, I don't advertise and have a wait list so my reputation is pretty good :-) That's because I absolutely love what I do - brows and lashes are most popular but my all time favourite is facials, they are so relaxing... for me, as well as my client, lol! We are still waiting to hear on the job front and are both praying to the God of ExPats that he gets it.... Many thanks, Jac x

Thanks for the replies, ladies, I'm hoping that my husband is successful in getting the job over there. He has just left the British Army after 28 years and this is his first interview ever, lol! Please send lots of positive thoughts, I would love to come to Qatar :-) x edited by Jac264 on 10/05/2014 edited by Jac264 on 10/05/2014

I know lots of people that do similar- if you're good believe me you will do well here-there may be a lot of salons and spas but the quality of services can be sketchy !! If you do treatments that someone likes the Doha jungle drums will go wildfire and you will get business without even trying- as a guide Glow salon an American salon popular with expats charge 250 for HD Brows and 150 maintenance-the hotels even more- I know a lot of people who think that is way too expensive and pay far less in UK and europe so if you price realistically you could work from home and make some money. My friend worked as a hairdreser here in the spare bedroom for years before she went back to the Uk and always had far more work than she could handle !

Qatari sponsor won't take 51% (they will own 51%, that's not the same thing). But realistically the costs of settling up a company and getting the required licences is just not going to be worth it (I don't actually know it's even possible to run a salon from home, it would probably need to be in appropriately zoned premises).

Do let me know if you decide to make the move... my brows could definitely use some rescuing!

Yep, 51% sounds a little steep! I'm not looking for the general beauty market, I specialise in facials. I don't advertise and have a wait list - and the biggest bonus is that I invariably end up making a new friend when I get a new client :-) I think I'm a little concerned about the ramifications of doing something I'm not allowed to so we'll see - maybe I'll have a few beauty treatments myself instead.... Thank you for taking the time to reply. Many thanks x

Unless you prefer going the legal route with a Qatari sponsor who will take 51% of all your takings without doing anything to contribute! I know of a lady on our compound(who shall remain annoymous) who does beauty treatments from home and she seems to do okay. There are a LOT of salons & spas here.

Not legally but loads of people do it anyway.
