Hello Everyone,

My husband, toddler and I are moving to Qatar in January and are coming out in a couple of weeks to investigate where we want to live.

We hope that my daughter will start at Park House in September, so would like to live a reasonable distance from there, as understand the school run is a nightmare. We definately want to live South, rather than West Bay and Pearl etc

Are there any Park Houses mums out there, who can recommend some family focused compounds. Our budget is generous but not over the top - research seems to suggest we can have a 3 bedroom villa in a good compound.

Thank you very much in advance!

Becky

Thanks so much for the replies already, and budget looks right. Thanks too for the warning about the school. edited by Becster on 27/10/2011

Can I add a work of warning: you say 'we hope' our daughter will start at Park House in September. I know applications haven't opened yet but there is no guarantee your daughter will get a place (I assume as you say toddler she's going to be 3 in September so she is in with a decent chance). I'd be wary about setting your hopes on one school only and planning everything around that. There are likely to be significantly more applications for than there are places available at Park House. This of course assumes that you haven't already got a guaranteed place for some reason (eg DH is going to be a teacher at Park House / you have an in with management etc). Btw if you're saying a 3 bed villa in a good compound, I'm assuming your budget is in the region of 12-15k a month. If it's significantly different to this you might want to say as it'll change options available.

We have a couple of families in our compound who go to Parkhouse, but if your budget is "generous" you can do better than this one! In any case we are in the Ain Khaled area. Abu Hamour will be closest for you and also Al Waab depending on your husband's work location. The only thing with Al Waab is that you'd need to cross Salwa Road which can be hard work at peak time. When you're making a decision try and do the school run at that time and see how it is. I'm sure other ladies will hop on and tell you about the closest family friendly compounds but hth a little bit :)
