We're pretty sure our dog ate a gecko, because we found half of a gecko in our backyard and then the dog was vomitting most of that night... then yesterday he was not himself. (He's normally a very energetic dog and he was sleeping all day - didn't even bark to go out to the bathroom- just sat by the door looking sad). This morning he is still very quiet but seems to be getting better. We'll probably take him to the vet to make sure all's ok, but has anyone else ever had this happen? Are geckos poisonous to dogs?

I had a cat years ago in AUH who used to spend his days hunting and eating the geckos :{ he was always sick afterwards and we put that down to the tail which the geckos detaches when under attack and that it wiggles after being detached. Our theory was he ate the tail and it was wiggling in his tum (gecko revenge!)

Thanks for asking. He's fine now- back to normal. We didn't end up taking him to the vet because he was getting better and better all day yesterday. Hopefully he's learned to not to eat anymore geckos!

How's your dog? Did you take him to the vet?

My dogs and cats have eaten many of them, sadly. I love geckos and I love that they eat mosquitos too! But no ill effects - maybe your dog has a sensitive tummy!
