Hi all - will be moving to Doha at the end of the month, so was wondering.....
Does anyone have any recommendations for car exporters by road from Dubai to Doha please?. So far have Mesar and Aramex that I've found on websites and EW - any others that posters have used and would recommend?
Thanks in advance

Have you contacted [url="https://www.a1autotransport.com/ship-car-to-dubai.php"'>A-1 Auto Transport[/url'>? They're US-based, but they regularly ship in the area and have office locations and storage available locally. We contacted quite a few before settling on them, even though they're not "local" necessarily. Definitely a good decision if you're trying to keep things affordable. Probably worth a phone call just to see what they charge, which they'll tell you for free.

Hope you don't mind me joining in with my recent experience of exporting cars between Dubai and Doha ladies. I've found out that you can import any vehicle into Qatar as long as you have the right paperwork. Its important to be aware however that importing a car to Qatar is a completely separate issue to registering it. If the car is more than 5 years old Qatar law says it cannot be registered. The only recourse is by obtaining a personal exemption letter from the Minister and my request letter is being drafted right now. edited by Safiya Dafiya on 15/07/2011

Hi Chizz He actually drove the car through to Doha a week before we left Dubai, parked it at a kind colleagues' house and then took a flight back to Dubai. I can't remember exactly how long it took to get his RP (almost 3 yrs ago!) but I recall it being about 4 weeks (it really depends how good the PRO at your DH's employer is - ours is useless). We then went & registered & insured the car, which took about a day. He didn't have any problems registering it as he had driven it through & paid all the 'fees' & so had all the paperwork. Just to add, we paid import duties [b'>twice[/b'> for the car, once obviously when we bought it in Dubai, and then because Qatar border police said we didn't have the correct piece of paper (ya whatever!), they made us pay import duties again. I really would not recommend driving it yourself. You get held up for [i'>hours[/i'> at the Saudi & Qatar borders behind the kilometre long queues of trucks not knowing which crowd (queue) to stand in & also not speaking the lingo doesn't help either. It was extremely long, frustrating & stressful 18hrs for him. HTH

So Kimmac - your DH drove the car from Dubai to Doha...I take it he drove the car to your residence/place you were staying and stored it there until he got residency? I assume he didn't have any problems with the authorities when he came to register it in Doha? Can I ask how long it took him to get his residency visa? Thanks for any info you can provide. Am also asking DH to investigate at work, as he has just arrived over there....

We didn't drive ours once we got it here as you need to have insurance on the vehicle & you can't get that unless you have it registered in your name & for [i'>that[/i'> you need an RP. This was just what we did, not to say that others may have a different way that they did things!

Sharry - thanks for the info - Did DH or yourself have to have the Qatari Residency visa before the company transported the car? The guy from Mesar said that he would accept DH's work permit and that we didn't need the residency visa. My question is: Would Customs allow the car through into Qatar without the residency permit? as I believe that you need this to register the car in Qatar. Can the car come through, you drive it around for however long you are permitted to on the UAE drivers licence (with export plates), then not drive it until you have residency, then register it....or would you be fined if you didn't register it by a certain date after entering Qatar? Getting the right info in the M. East, as we know, can be a bit of a nightmare and there are so many conflicting stories of what you can and can't do.....have tried to find the answer to this, but no-one seems to know...TIA edited by chizz on 13/07/2011

DC - the cost of the RORO is AED 4,700 Door (Jebel Ali) to Qatar Port (includes: collection car from residence Dubai & customs clearance, port charges etc. & delivery of car to residence in Doha ). Above estimate EXCLUDES customs duty, port storage, demurrage, detention, Govt taxes, customs examination/quarantine charges, warehouse handling, special parking permit, auxiliary services, shuttle service, abnormal access & insurance. DH needs to have the Qatar Residency Permit in order before shipping, so we will store the car in Dubai before it goes to Qatar. In turn, you may need the UAE Residency in place. Contact details: Tel: 00971 4 8852204 Email: [email protected] Website: http://www.leaderrelocations.com Thanks will look into them. DC

IMHO it's really much better to ship the car. We looked at shipping ours from Dubai with our 20ft container of furniture (which would have been increased to 40ft to accommodate the car) and Crown quoted us around 10k for the car. DH ended up driving the car through which was an utter nightmare & still ended up costing 5k with all the 'hidden' (read palm-greasing) costs. edited by kimmac on 13/07/2011

Thanks for the link! I did try to get this company (MESAR) to transport our car for us - all was going well, until I asked the guy who answers the phone to give me directions to his office. The directions never appeared and I tried to ring the guy on the only mobile tel number provided for a whole day and he never answered. There was no other contact number for us to try and I figured that I couldn't trust the company in the end. We are now going to use Leader Relocations/Freight Forwarders and send the car on the RORO ship. I have heard that companies are now reluctant to send cars by road due to all the problems at the Saudi border - Aramex have stopped doing the by-road service for example. Thanks again for replying... Chizz, What is the cost for shipping it over? I brought over my car from Dubai via Aramex (land-frieght) a couple of years ago and it came to about 10k including customs duties etc. I need to take it back but, since you say Aramex don't drive it through Saudi anymore, I'd need to look into shipping it. TIA DC

Hi Chizz, I knew I had saved that link somewhere but it took me some time to find it. http://www.cartowingdubai.com/ Please note that we have not used them ourselves nor do we know anybody who has. I was fiddling on the net and trying to find info about a year ago when DH was told he could be transferred to a neighbouring country but that did not materialise. Good luck;)!
