OK so mopping is the absolute bane of my life. I HATE it with a passion and have to do it more often than most because we seem to own the world's filthiest dog. We have acres* of tiled floors which take a good 2 hours to Hoover and mop.

I currently just use the normal mop and squeeze bucket method. But am considering one of those steam mops from Lakeland as it looks a lot quicker to just push one of those around instead of going through the whole dip, squeeze, mop, dry palaver.

Has anyone used a steam mop and are they any good?

*may be slight exaggeration

No I have the Shark one. I think that it is still better than a regular mop because (a) I don't have to dip, rinse, squeeze, mop, repeat (b) I'd still have to scrub at the really dirty, sticky spots and (c) the steam action lifts the regular drips, splotches quite nicely. I also think my floor is a lot cleaner because of the steam even though you don't use soap (which you don't have to buy anymore - I do have a squeeze bottle of an all purpose cleaner that I use as a spot treater on tougher gunk - gosh my kitchen sounds like a disaster, but I'm an "enthusiastic" cook ;)) Oh and to answer the question about time - I think it takes me less time and does a better job. edited by marycatherine on 27/02/2012

Thanks Marycatherine, do you have the actual Lakeland branded one? Also, you said you like using it on the white tiles in the kitchen even though it needs lots of going over - would you say it was still quicker/easier than using a traditional mop and bucket?

I have one and I really like it - especially in my kitchen where I have white tiles. The lakeland one is very expensive. I saw a Black and Decker (I think that was the brand) at Carrefour for significantly less last week or maybe the week before. Getting into the corners can be a bit of an issue, but so it would be if I was mopping. While it does dry quickly - it still takes about 15 minutes or so - but maybe I'm steaming too much and there's more condensation as a result? White floors need lots of going over especially with kitchn spills HTH
