Hello M86NL, In my opinion you should wait that your husbund finish the course, after that its better. I have talked with some pilots wifes with children and they usualy wait one or two mothes. About Alfarden gardens i only know that is a compaound, nothing more, sorry. if you need help send me e mail, [email protected] ;) bye

Hi ladies, we're moving to Qatar as well as my husbend starts working for Qatar Airways in July. So I'd like to read along :) We have 2 kids in the age of 9 weeks and 14 months. And I was wondering if it is better to wait a bit before moving to Doha and let my husband do the nessasairy things first so we can give our baby's less stress as moving far away is allready stress full. Has anybody with young kids experienced this? And does anybody know if the houses in the Alfarden gardens 2 or 5 (compounds) are good? By reading on the internet we thought that these places would be nice.. I'm sorry if I haven't read comments correctly or mist some, I'm new here :) and not formilliar with this. Kind regards

Hi, I also think it's better to have the car, but I thought about the Pearl just because it is well served and I could get a taxi when I need. Where do you live ladies? Compound or apartment at the Pearl or in other zone? We'll have an apartment at Barwa City for the beginning. Greetings to all ladies!!!! :)

hi ladies. I will be coming out in late June. We have lived as expats already so I dont worry about life out there. I am so excited to get on with this adventure, To the lonely ones, get out and meet people, search on google for groups and clubs, go to EVERYTHING untill you find what you like. As an expat you have to jump ni feet first with your mind open. Having kids always helps to meet people. I am also hoping to live at the pearl, maybe we can all find each other and have a meet up. Have a great spring and see you soon.

my husband also always takes a taxi. Before kids, I would drop him off. Can't imagine no car in Qatar (Although it would be easier on the pearl than some other places).

My hubby always takes a taxi to work, leaving the car home for us to use for school runs, shopping etc. Not having transport is a sure fire way of going nuts! But obviously, I guess you could use taxis, and he take the car! edited by catonclan on 17/04/2015

Hy Minie33, I mean the central part of the pearl, in front of eleven porto Arabia tower. Is it correct? I have seen on the maps that this is the area served more in terms of supermarkets, shops... I will not have the car when my husband will go to fly, so i will need to be autonomous. Can i ask you when do you live at Pearl? Thank you very much, and excuse me for writing errors, but I don't write and speak English fluently!! bye::)

Hi ladies! My husband is flying B777. Usually he has long flights (3-4 days out of Doha) and then 2/3 days off after each flight. Most of the flights are during night or early morning. Minie33, I'm also Portuguese. Feel free to contact me if you need any help. First months here can be demanding and not easy, but after you are settled is a great place to live! :)

Hi Minnie I'm guessing you may be in holiday villas company accommodation?? We were placed there but have recently moved to the pearl! I didn't mind holiday villas to much the people were very friendly there as well as the staff who worked in the hotel! We had a huge three bed apartment which was lovly but just not a lot to do around that area,I'm loving living at the pearl now it's a different world down here!!! Just sweet talk your husband into moving here you will find living in Doha a lot easier once you move out of that area believe me!!! X;)

Hello Tabathatoo, I live in Mansura in company accommodation, but I don't like! I feel quite lonely it's not easy for me. For exemple my husband will fly tomorrow and only come back after 4 days...some days is 2 or 3 nights out. It's impprtant you live in a nice place for you feel confortable, you don't need to stay in company accommodation. Kiss

Thanks ladies. It's such a huge decision but glad to hear you're all happy with the rosters and the company. Is there much socialising with pilot wives? I imagine it could get quite lonely whilst he is working away. Do you all live in the company accommodation or use the allowance for somewhere else? Is it enough or does wages go towards rent too? So many questions, such a big decision!! Thank you x

Hi tabathatoo my husband works for the 330 fleet and has a lovly roster each month!! The longest he would ever be away would be generally two nights, can sometimes be three if he gets the odd China flight with a day off there, but I don't really mind as he gets a lot of time off to make up for the time he is away in my opinion,he really likes the company and is happy there,we live at the pearl!! Mini it gets easier trust me it's very daunting when you first move over but once you settle its not that bad plus the best perk is being able to fly back home whenever you want:shy:;)

Hello, I'm Portuguese and im in Doha one month and adaptation has not been easy. my husband flies boing 777 and on average he works 90 hours per month, makes long flights. I spend a lot of time alone without him. If someone want a day do something, say something to drink coffee. Kisses

My husband is around a lot -- but it's completely inconsistent. He gets a monthly roster at the beginning of each month.. and that's the schedule. Every month is different. Nothing predictable like 5 on 4 off.. I've always thought that he's home much more than you're average 9-5 working guy - but at different times. They can request specific days off as part of the roster bidding (not just vacation) and that generally works well.

Thanks for your reply, he'll be on the 787 or 777. Do you see much of your husband or is he worked hard/ away a lot? We're used to 5 on 4 off so hes hardly away work!!
