When you apply for the landline with Qtel you have to inform them if you want local landline, GSM (mobile) and/or international access on your phone. When I was in accommodation provided by work which included the phone line, we had local landline access only. As soon as I took over the line in my own name I changed it to GSM + international. As for vodafone, no joy there. IMHO they have horrible service, despite an effort to provide good face to face customer service. I had a vodafone line briefly and I was constantly loosing calls and not getting connections. My advise would be to switch to Qtel. The lesser of 2 evils so to speak. Well the company applied for the landline as we don't have an RP yet but we are paying all bills. Will get DH to check it out. Its not crucial I guess as we are otherwise sorted for international calls but thought we could save a few pennies on the mobile bill by using the landline when possible... Going to Vilaggio tonight so will pop into Qtel to discuss switching - annoying to have to change telephone number but obviously it would be nice to be able to SMS my friends and family again - you wouldn't have thought that would be too much to ask!!

There are people on Twitter tonight reporting Blackberry problems (again!), don't know if that might have anything to do with it?

So issue number one: our Qtel landline only allows us to make landline calls and not mobile calls!! Is there something I can do that will rectify this?? Secondly (and this is the more frustrating issue of the two for me) I have a Vodafone BlackBerry plan - the 48dhs/month one that is advertised everywhere. Unfortunately I am unable to SMS most friends in Dubai. There's only one friend I can SMS and she has a du number. I am also unable to SMS some, but not all family/friends in the UK. I have spent over an hour discussing this with vodafone customer care but have gotten nowhere. Have tested same numbers from DH's BlackBerry and same issue. Has anyone experienced the same? Have I done something to my settings? Thanks very much - would be so grateful if anyone could shed any light on these issues esp the Vodafone one! :)
