I'm off work today and was thinking to head to Souq Waqif and also the fabric souq across the road. Do the shops in the souqs close mid-day? Any info appreciated.

You're welcome RachelA. Btw if you're looking for expensive material, Souq Al Diera has a wide variety. Souk Al Asiery next to it is good for cotton and other less expensive fabrics.

There is shop in Al Saad called Bouquet that has been mentioned on this site before, I've not tried it yet but maybe you could try it for your fabric if you get no luck at the Souqs.

Not sure how much help I'll be -- but I'll try. Looking for a very particular fabric for my FIL -- DH is the one with the details/specs. I'm sure there are others here who can guide you to the best shops but for sure I'll post what I learn.

RachelA, if you do venture out to the material shops, kindly post which shops you found had the best selection etc. I'd like to get some silk but never know how much is a resonable cost per metre.

Yes. The official closing time is 1-4 pm, but many of the stores start closing early 12-12:30ish.
