Hello, my family is coming from the US and they were asking me what I needed for our expected one. I haven't really started shopping in Doha yet for baby items. I was curious, if there is anything that you can not find in Doha and have to order online or any frustrations with the shopping here. I already had my round of online shopping for maternity work clothes!! Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!!

there isn't much selection of babybjorn baby carriers here, unless you pick one up secondhand. I-spy bookstore 3rd floor city centre actually has quite a good selection of baby books/dvd's so have a look before requesting any from the rellies. If you are breastfeeding, breastfeeding tops (with crafty wrap bits and cut outs) are hard to come by in doha and also if you want a breastfeeding apron cover thing, best get them to bring one over. ps I meant cetaphil, not sebamed below, and yes there are no "natural" type baby bath products here although I find a lot of the natural ones are overly perfumed anyway, hence the cetaphil.

Hi there, congrats on your bump! First of all, I should preface my reply by stating that I don't have children, BUT a very dear friend just gave birth to her 1st here and I learned a lot when shopping for her baby shower and then shopping with her. I think you can easily find baby clothes, feeding & bathing supplies, baby furnishings, baby bedding, baby 'transportation' items, toys, etc. at Babyshop, Mamas & Papas, Mothercare, Toys-R-Us, Prenatal, Carter's, etc. It all seems to be pricey tho! So, here's what I learned from my friend about what she couldn't find... 1) Maternity clothes- limited selection here, also think about pregnancy and post-childbirth books as you know how rubbish the book stores are here. Also, any other specialty supplies for yourself- like supplements, supportive belts, maternity and nursing bras, etc. 2) Natural baby bodycare products- seems like they only sell overly processed, chemical baby body washes, shampoos, creams, etc. so best to buy any natural bathing supplies abroad. 3) Cloth diapers and leakproof undies- Not sure if you plan to use cloth or disposable, or combo of the two, but I remember looking for such supplies with my friend and not finding much. 4) Any educational baby toys/books/dvds in English- again, limited supply so have your family bring Baby Mozart from abroad or whatever else is 'hot' in the US right now. HTH from a lady who doesn't have any of her own, but supported her friend thru this experience!

I don't know if you can get these now but a few years ago I had to order a sleeping bag for my newborn (I swear by them!) and then I had to order larger ones as well.

I bought online large size muslin swaddles and small muslin facecloths. I also got family to bring me large pump bottles of sebamed which is all I have ever used to wash my now 9 month old. I bought my angelcare baby monitor back home but since your family are coming from the US that might not work with voltage issues. Later on I bought airwrap mesh cot bumpers online for a safe way of keeping my wee man's limbs in the cot.
