Wall to wall carpet?

I think out of everything, the lack of carpet will be the biggest thing to get use to over there. I know file keeps the house cool and I can deal with it in most parts of the villa. However, there are some rooms that I would really like carpet in. Mainly my boys room. Have any of you installed wall to wall carpet in your villas? I guess the first question is, how much wiggle room most mgmt of the compounds allow? I know it's not my house, but if I'm staying somewhere (for a min of 3 yrs but prb more), I would like to make it as 'homey' as possible.

Thanks ladies. Good to know that this is possibility. Ausgirl, believe it or not, I'm not stressed at all. Perhaps it's growing up in a military family or just that I'm **** about certain things. Lol. I just like to plan as much as possible and gather knowledge about things beforehand. I'm use to moving around albeit this is the most extreme. I just know for my own sanity that pre planning makes the transition that much easier in the long run.

Hi again Iris. Our villa is all large rooms and tiled floors but we had carpet laid in one room for the audiophile in the family - the room echoed terribly and the hifi would have sounded terrible and I could see years of trying to find the right pieces to get the sound right! It was at our cost and after convincing Carpetland they didn't need to glue the carpet down (I was worried about possible cost when we move out) all went well and the music sounds great. We got the carpet from Carpetland on Salwa Road and whilst it was at a cost it was worth it and prob less than buying new hifi gear! We have purchased some beautiful Persian rugs here in Doha for the other rooms and really love them. One of the advantages of being in the Middle East I think. PS I hope you are getting some sleep and not worrying and planning all night long;) It WILL work out ok - have faith in yourself.

For our bedrooms I had some lengths of regular carpet cut to the size of the room and had the edges 'whipped'. This means you have a carpet that is not fixed (it doesn't move once some of the furniture is on it). It does make the bedrooms more cosy and softens the blow if the kids fall out of bed and is more forgiving on their knees when they're building train sets on their bedroom floor! Even if there is a small border of tiles around the edge of the carpet it looks fine. The beauty of this is 1. it doesn't damage the fabric of the rental house. 2. you can take it with you (as we did from Dubai to here) or 3. you can flog it when you leave! oh yes, and 4. you can sent it out for cleaning if it really gets trashed. We had ours from Carpetland in Dubai and I understand they are here now on Salwa road but I've not been. Some others might know of carpet suppliers in the dustbowl......

I live on Al Messilah compound and the houses here have fitted carpets on the stairs and upstairs. It's lovely as it makes it feel more homely and it's on of the reasons we chose this house. The management of this compound do allow you to also make your own changes (eg laying wooden floors) but they automatically become the compound property if you do (ie you can't rip them out and sell them on afterwards).

Irisjd, I praise my lovely shiny tiled floors every day! So cool & so easy to keep clean. I just have a large 'persian' carpet in my sitting room & small rugs in the bedrooms next to the beds. I've been here in the ME for 8 years & I've never had a villa that had fitted carpets. I'm sure there are companies that do this but you'd have to check with your villa landlord as to weather he/she would allow it.
