Is 45k AED per month enough for a family to live comfortably?
We are a family with two young children (2 and 3 months) and my husband has been approached about a number of job roles in the Middle East. Our preference would be to live in Abu Dhabi as we have family there and we have heard how family-friendly it is.
The packages all seem to be around 45k AED per month inclusive, so we would have to pay for accommodation, transport, child care etc etc out of his salary. The only extras he would get are medical, flights home every year and a relocation package (no idea what this would be).
This works out at around £90k GBP per year, which to us seems like a great salary, but I know Abu Dhabi is expensive and we would would want to be able to save some money while we were there.
We wouldn't expect to live a glamorous expat lifestyle, but would like a house with a garden for the kids in a nice family friendly area, nursery at least three days a week for both kids until school age ( full time if I manage to find a job once the baby is a bit older), a regular cleaner rather than a live-in maid and still be able to put away some money at the end of each month. Most of our spare time will be spent doing family things with the kids and hopefully a bit of travel around the region, so we won't be spending loads on eating out, drinking and partying!
Ideally I would like to go back to work part-time at some point (I work in marketing) but we would need to have enough to live comfortably without my salary in case I couldn't get a job.
Can anyone let me know if this salary package will be enough? I have searched the forums and there are a lot of conflicting opinions over how much a family will need so thought I would share my situation in the hope that someone can help.
Thanks
