UAE authorities have announced that the restriction surrounding the use of drones in the emirates will begin to be eased in phases, starting from Monday November 25th, 2024, and onwards.

The usage of drones have been banned in the country since January 2022, with the exception of commercial use which would require a permit from officials.

Prior to the ban, many drone owners in the UAE where photographers and videographers who used these devices to help snap urban and landscape shots, as drones enabled them to capture unique angles from points that are typically inaccessible.

However this also led to several safety and privacy risks, with some drones flying into private spaces and prohibited areas - back in 2016 and 2019, a non-military drone had entered Dubai International Airport's airspace and caused flight delays.

What's the first phase?

The news came from the UAE Ministry, the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority and the General Civil Aviation Authority, in which the ban on flying drones in the country will be gradually lifted - starting from Monday.

The first phase involves easing restrictions to allow government entities and private companies to use flying drones.

How about for personal use?

Amateur drone operators, enthusiasts, photographers, videographers, etc. who wish to fly a drone can look forward to the ban being lifted in the second phase.

However, UAE authorities have yet to provide an official timeline for the second phase.
