We answer your burning questions about Dubai's upcoming aerial taxis.

Tired of the everyday traffic? Come first quarter of 2026, commuters will be able to skip the daily congestion in minutes by hopping onboard Dubai's first electric flying taxis.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed through state news agency Wam that their exciting collaboration project with Joby Aviation and Skyports Infrastructure will be open to the public in just 18 months' time.

The flying taxis will kickstart with four vertiports across some of Dubai's most bustling locations, offering rides to take you between Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Marina.

After successful aircraft tests and official launch, Dubai will be the first in the world to offer inner-city public transport on air.

How much would a ride on the Dubai flying taxi be?

It likely wouldn't reach thousands of dirhams. According to Joby Aviation, the California-based company developing electric aircraft for commercial use, the cost per trip onboard a Dubai flying taxi may cost the same as an Uber Black ride - so expect somewhere between AED 300 to 500 upon launch.

How many passengers can each Dubai aerial taxi carry?

Each electric flying taxi can carry up to five people, including a pilot and maximum four passengers, at speeds of up to 320km/h.

Where can the Dubai electric air taxi travel to?

For now, the air taxi's area network will be limited to its first four vertiports which will be based in Downtown Dubai, Dubai International Airport, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Marina.

The exact locations of the air taxi take-off and landing ports are yet to be confirmed.

How long will a ride be on a flying taxi in Dubai?

Using a flying taxi in Dubai will significantly cut down on travel time, as per Tyler Trerotola, General Manager of Joby Aviation Middle East. If an average commute between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Palm Jumeirah would take about 45 minutes, then a trip on an aerial taxi will reduce this down to 10 minutes.

So yes, you can relax and take in the sights of Dubai from a unique viewpoint at 1,000 to 3,000 ft. up in the air, or just kickback and scroll through Instagram until you reach your destination.

How can I book a Dubai flying taxi?

There will be three ways passengers can book an air taxi service in Dubai.

1. Book through Uber

Joby Aviation confirmed that they'll be working with Uber, so you can seamlessly book an air taxi in Dubai through the Uber app the same way you'd hail an Uber car ride.

2. Book through the official RTA app

Another method to book an air taxi service in Dubai will be through the official RTA app.

3. Book through the Joby Aviation app

Joby Aviation announced that they'll be launching their own app soon, providing passengers a third option to book flying taxis in Dubai.

What to expect when booking an aircraft taxi in Dubai?

The boarding process is fairly simple and can take up to five minutes. Once your booking is confirmed, you'll have to show up at the vertiport of choice, pass through a tunnel, and then board your booked air taxi to reach your destination.

As the aircrafts are all-electric, passengers can also expect less noise during the flight compared to a standard helicopter ride. The electric aerial taxis will not cause pollution during the ride as well.
