UAE Job Loss Insurance Claim Rejections Explained

ILOE insurance claim rejected? Wondering if you're eligible for job loss benefits? Our guide is here to help.

The Involuntary Loss of Employment (ILOE) scheme is a mandatory insurance policy that all eligible workers in the UAE are required to subscribe to, or risk a fine of AED 400.

Below are some reasons that your ILOE insurance claim may get rejected, so before you submit your UAE job loss insurance - be mindful not to make these mistakes.

1. Leaving Your Job Voluntarily

The UAE's ILOE policy benefits can only be claimed by employees who were removed from their job involuntarily. If you chose to leave your job willingly, you will not be eligible to claim job loss insurance benefits.

If your employer marks your dismissal as you quitting your job at your own will, then your job loss insurance claim will not be valid. When submitting an insurance claim online, the insured must "prove that unemployment was due to a reason other than resignation", as mentioned in the official ILOE platform.

2. Insurance Policy Hasn't Been Paid in Full

The Involuntary Loss of Employment insurance subscription is valid for one year and allows the employee to pay off their policy in monthly instalments or in full. If you've yet to pay off the full 12 months and still have some instalments pending, your job loss insurance claim might get rejected.

It's also important to note that missing your monthly ILOE insurance payments can risk a fine of AED 200.

3. Must Not Have Been Dismissed For Disciplinary Reasons

Another eligibility criteria is that the insured must not have been dismissed from their job for disciplinary reasons. If the employee lost his or her job as a result of violating the UAE Labour Law, then he/she is not eligible to claim ILOE insurance benefits.

4. Must Have Completed At Least One Full Year

To be eligible for job loss insurance benefits, the employee must have completed at least 12 months from the date of subscription of his/her ILOE policy, as per the official portal.

This means you cannot claim your job loss benefits within the first year of getting your insurance policy. An employee must complete at least one year of his/her ILOE insurance without interruption, and should renew before or immediately after its expiry.

5. You Have an Existing Abscondment Complaint

The ILOE official portal also mentions that if the insured has an existing abscondment complaint, then he/she will not be eligible to claim job loss benefits.

6. Over Thirty (30) Days Have Passed

If you wish to get job loss insurance benefits, you must submit a claim within 30 days from the date of termination either through the ILOE official portal, ILOE app, contact the call centre at 600 599 555, or via specific government channels in coordination with the Insurance Pool.

7. Do Not Use Fraud or Deception to Claim Job Loss Benefits

Any ILOE insurance claims made by means of fraud of deception will be deemed invalid. The company that the insured claims to work for must be an established firm in the UAE, and should not be a fictitious business.

8. Must Be Legally Staying in the UAE

To be eligible for Involuntary Loss of Employment benefits, the insured must be legally residing in the UAE and present in the country.

9. Job Loss Must Not Have Been a Result of Labour Strikes or Stoppages

If the insured was dismissed from his or her job as a result of non-peaceful labour strikes or stoppages, regardless of whether the actions caused damage or not, then an ILOE insurance claim will be invalid.

10. You Cannot Claim Job Loss Benefits on Behalf of a Deceased Insured

The ILOE insurance coverage ends on the date of the insured's death. If you are trying to claim job loss benefits on behalf of an insured partner or family member who has recently passed away, it is not possible.
