His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has officially declared 2025 as 'The Year of Community', with a focus on projects aiming to foster a community spirit in the country under the slogan 'Hand in Hand'.
According to the official announcement, 'The Year of Community 2025' will be dedicated towards strengthening family and community bonds by preserving cultural heritage, intergenerational ties, and create inclusive spaces that foster collaboration.
"I am pleased to announce 2025 as the Year of Community in the UAE. Hand in hand we will work to strengthen social bonds, foster shared responsibility, and unlock potential for inclusive and sustainable growth," said the UAE president.
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan added: "To all those who call the UAE home, I encourage you to think ambitiously and act boldly in contributing towards improving your community and ensuring that our nation remains an inspiring model of progress and prosperity."
An annual tradition since 2016, the UAE announces a new year-round theme which will influence projects, initiatives, and policy decisions across all seven emirates for that year. 2024 was 'The Year of Sustainability' in the UAE, which aimed to promote sustainable practices and collective action, bringing together everyone who calls the nation their home.
The past two years has seen the same theme of sustainability, with the UAE approving and implementing projects with the goal towards making the country greener.
This included a change in Dubai's streetlights, with the introduction of over 14,000 new eco-friendly road lamps consuming 60% less energy and lasting 173% longer than the old lights.
'The Year of Sustainability' also saw the launch of the Blue Visa for people who have made exceptional contributions to the environment. The new visa provides a 10-year UAE residency permit for individuals who qualify.
