Hi there a friend has been offered a job in BSAK, obviously package seems good but he was wanting some info on what the housing was like. Is it on school grounds/near the school? With kids do you get a villa/apartment? If anyone has any info it would be much appreciated.

TIA

SS

r the kids into sports or music, as bsak exciles at that. they always seem to outbeat the dubai schools. The little girl plays the violin and his son plays rugby. well there is your answer then, i would go with bsak. whenever the kids do rugby touraments they are usually winning or its very very close with dubai rugby clubs. bsak is really good at music now and the brass band and the orchestra is always being asked to play at events. i cannot say for dess/jess if that is where the other one is, but can tell you than friends of mine whose kids lived in kcb and were at yasmina which is like 5 mins away this year moved their kids to bsak, which is like much further and 20 mins away they really are into rugby etc.

Sounds lovely. He'll be in secondary. I've said AD is a nicer place to live than DXB, the families we knew when we were there seemed to spend more time together than a lot if families do in DXB. I know in 9 years it's changed a lot! I think the job he's been offered in DXB may also give him a bit more of a chance to go into management, with a 3 bed house in AR. Personally I think they'll be happier in AD, but it's not my decision to make. i prefer ad to dxb, even if its cheaper for housing etc in dubai its more spread out, the driving is a nitemare compared to ad, you spend more there, as there is defo more to do especially with kids, but ad is a lot smaller more family orientated and you can easily drive up the road for specific things if you need to. but of course there may also be a chance to go into managemnt at bsak which subject is he doing?

Thanks Busybee2 the Dubai school is also a non profit school. Salaries and benefits are the same, it is just the housing that they're stuck on. well i dont think you would be disappointed with bsak. Thanks my thoughts exactly :)

Thanks Busybee2, will pass it on. Hubby and I lived in AD 9 years ago pre kids so didn't really know what to tell him so will pass your info on. He has 2 kids, his wife is a SAHM. BSAK is still the best paying school over all that's not tertiary. How long does it take to get to BSAK from Reef? His wife doesn't drive so think it may be difficult for her. it would be 30/35 mins at worst. people come down channel st and go over the new bridge along salam st, down to al saada and then through from there, its 2 sets of lights which can take some time (plus you will need to add another set of traffic lights soon as they are putting ones in near to HCT). a lot of teachers and kids live at al reef now. she really would need to learn to drive better to do beforehand, but there is a bus service that goes there now, a little shop but other than that you will feel a little cut off from things its right next door to the airport which at the moment a lot of people do not have much trouble with, but once the expansion is complete who knows what it may be like. when they change the direction of the runway it can be noisy. what position is he going for? primary or secondary? Thanks for that. He's been offered a job in secondary. Do the teachers get an allowance or does the school find the housing? If it's an allowance do you know how much? He's been offered a position in Dubai as well so is just trying to weigh up the options. It's the housing I think that will make their final decision. i dont know but i think they provide the housing, but the housing that i know is very good. my kids have been going to bsak for over 11 years, we have lived here nearly 16 as that was the only choice of school in ab dabs in the beginning. their staff turnover isnt very high, a lot of it will be due to spouses moving around. bsak is very good as its a non profit school and they do look after their staff well it would depend on the other school in dubai which one etc, as without it i couldnt comment. the same cannot be for profit only schools, where by a lot of the others are. in dubai the housing may well be cheaper, but not in all areas, such as arabian ranches etc the price of accommodation is more. housing provided by bsak i know is good, and they sort out any problems associated with it. from what i know i would be very happy. i dont think its down to just the housing issue it will be down to the school itself, and bsak being a non proift school does mean an awful big thing here in the uae.

i dont work there but i know a lot of peeps that do, they used to all be housed in various apartment buildings in town, but a lot of those buildings were turned into hotel apartments, so they had to move out, if you are single etc then you will be in the flats near to sch i know a lot of them are housed in buildings like opp al wadha mall, the families or higher up the scale have been given a little more flexibility just receintly i believe, they are all over mostly mushrif areas, or khalifa city or even a lot of them have moved to al reef, as you can get a bigger house for the money etc. bsak does look after its staff, and you definately wouldnt be housed somewhere horrible. in the past they used to house some staff on the grounds, but they had to knock it down in order to expand to the new phase 4 buildings etc. being bsak has been around a long time, even though its not the most expensive sch in abu dhabi, it used to be the best paying school, not sure now with the likes of the new bc etc.
