Dear All,

I need immediate help….I’m really confused n scared….I am an Indian residing in abu dhabi so I duno if the laws for divorce wil be same for Indians & british expats because I think most of the issues I read in this site were mostly abt Bristish divorce.

I appreciate any help… PLEASE…I don’t have the financial back up 2 meet a lawyer, I really duno how things work here. I’m residing in abu Dhabi for past 10 years, I’m working but under my husband’s sponsorship. We don’t get along well at all…to be short..It’s an abusive relationship but I held on thinking of my 2 kids. I duno if I go 4 a divorce den I’ll lose my kids. like I said as I’m on his sponsorship I duno wat 2 do. i cannot continue 2 b married 2 him & let him abuse me.

My current company is willing to sponsor me but I duno if my husband can screw it up or he can ban me from being in uae. In case I return to india can he ban me from coming back??

I cannot think of being away from kids but now I have decided I need to divorce. please advise....thanks...

Hi Saddy, As far as my knowledge goes - The UAE has a unified Federal court system which applies to five of the seven Emirates. Dubai is not one of these. U take care

Hi. So sorry to hear about your relationship. I cannot give much advise but lots of cyber hugs. I was under the impression that kids go to mother till they are 12 years old but then need to stay in UAE. This is just something that someone told me once but don't take this as the rule. All the best

Sorry to hear about your situation, As far as i understand ... as per UAE law the kids go to the father. but again as suggested earlier you need to check with a professional legal help. Maybe the rules differ if the marriage is done in india.

I am so sorry for your situation. I think we all come from different cultures so it is difficult to advise you. You do need to get good legal advice and also consider your culture and how a divorce will be accepted for both you and your children. I know, in my culture (NW Pak) for sure, I would loose my kids if I wanted to leave. Also, for me, divorce would not be an option, my husband would never agree to it. Rally, you need to speak to someone who knows and understands your culture and laws. Well as the family laws of the UAE. Good luck!
